                    Jordan POV
My head felt like it was stuffed full of cotton balls. I could hear ringing in my ears. I winced, my head throbbing with pain. Darkness surrounded me. My eyes felt like they were glued shut and I struggled to open them. Finally, I managed it and I blinked, taking in my surroundings, confused, wondering where I was. From what I could surmise, from the log-like walls and old fireplace, rotting floorboards, and boarded-up windows, I was in an old abandoned cabin. The boards didn’t completely cover the windows and small patches of sunlight lit up portions of the floor. I blinked, trying to adjust to the light, groaning out loud as I tried to sit up, realizing my wrists were restrained with rope. Where the hell was I? Why did I feel so weak and dizzy?
I barely remembered what happened. Something wriggled against me and I glanced down, spotting the baby raccoon, which thankfully was unharmed, its beady eyes staring up at me. My heart gave a pang. It was so small, so vulnerable. I had to remind myself that I was in a tricky situation, as I glanced around the room, pondering my options.
“Hey,” I said softly “it’s going to be okay little fella. We can get out of this, I promise” I said thickly, not entirely sure that was true.
I stiffened. The last thing I remembered was Alpha Romero and then something struck me hard, on the head. He must have hit me with something, the bastard. I looked around, glancing for something that I could use as a weapon to help me escape or if he came back. I tried to speak to Lilith but couldn’t. There must still be wolfbane in my system. Either that or the bastard had drugged me while I was unconscious. I wouldn’t put it past him, I thought to myself bitterly.
There was nothing. Not even a broken bit of furniture. The floorboards were so rotten they were completely useless. I sighed. I wondered where Alpha Romero had gone. He must have been pretty confident I was out for the count if he left me in here alone. Well not exactly alone, I amended, glancing down at the raccoon. I got to my knees and awkwardly shuffled towards the closest window, peering outside. Nothing but trees for miles and miles. In every direction. None of it looked familiar either. f**k. I wouldn’t even know what direction to go. But it was better than staying here like a sitting duck, I thought grimly, about to get onto my feet when I heard the distant sounds of footsteps approaching. It was more than one pair too. I pricked my ears. Alpha Romero came into view, from out of the trees, an older male beside him, dressed in scrubs with a white doctor coat. Instinctively I knew that wasn’t good. I glanced around and my heart sank. There was no back door. They were blocking the front. I grimaced. What the f**k did I do? My heart raced. I couldn’t take two of them on in human form. I couldn’t shift. I had to protect my unborn child as well.
I shuffled back to my original spot and lay back down, pretending to still be unconscious, my eyes tightly closing. It was the only thing I could think of. Maybe, they would go back outside and I could try and escape then. If the windows hadn’t been boarded up, I could have gone through them, I thought sourly. The raccoon huddled up inside its little pouch, not making a sound. Perhaps it sensed the danger and wisely thought it best to hide as well. I focused on keeping my breathing even. I prayed he would leave me alone, where I was. My heart hammered loudly in my chest. My mouth went dry with fright.
The wooden door flung open loudly and both men stomped inside. “I must have given her too much wolfsbane” Alpha Romero growled to his companion “She’s still unconscious.”
“How long has she been out for now?” asked the other man, his voice deep and hoarse, sounding a little concerned.
“A few hours” Alpha Romero snapped, sounding displeased.
“Hmmm, she should be coming around any minute now. Unless as you said, you misjudged the dosage and gave her the incorrect amount. If that’s the case, I can merely give her a sedative and we can do the operation regardless.”
I tried not to stiffen. Operation. What operation? I felt sick. What were they planning to do to me? Oh my god. They were going to kill my unborn child; I instinctively knew it. I couldn’t let that happen. There was no way I would. I would die fighting first. My body tensed as I braced myself, hoping I hadn’t given myself away with that minuscule movement. “How long will the operation take?” Alpha Romero asked impatiently.
“How far along is she?” the doctor’s voice was calm, and patient in contrast to the Alpha’s.
“According to my source she’s at least three months along, maybe slightly more” Romero growled sounding extremely displeased.
“That far along? I was under the impression that she was only just pregnant” the doctor sounding quite dismayed “To perform an operation like this on a viable baby is just unethical. I’m afraid that I simply cannot perform the procedure” he added, sounding resolute.
A choking sound. I risked opening my eyes to tiny slits. Alpha Romero had the doctor by the throat and was squeezing him, the poor doctor’s eyes almost bulging out of his head, his hands scrabbling frantically as he tried to pry the Alpha’s hands away from his throat. It was futile. The alpha was much stronger than the poor man.
“What was that doctor?” Alpha Romero hissed, bending his face close to the doctor’s own, staring into his eyes “I’m afraid that I must have misheard you” he snarled.
The doctor gasped for breath. Alpha Romero squeezed harder, the doctor’s lips turning blue as he tried to drag in much-needed oxygen.
“Alright, alright” he wheezed and the Alpha let go of him, the doctor landing on his ass with a heavy thud to the floor “I’ll perform the procedure. Just don’t kill me” he pleaded, his voice shaky and wavering.
Oh gods. I shut my eyes again, listening intently. Alpha Romero let out a scornful laugh. “Whether I kill you or not is entirely up to you” he grunted “and how well you perform the procedure. How soon afterward can she be moved?”
“Maybe an hour after,” the doctor said reluctantly “providing she’s not jostled too much and you give her Alpha blood to help her heal.”
f**k no. I didn’t want his blood. It was probably tainted or something. I would spit it back out if he offered it. But I didn’t intend to let this so-called operation get that far.
Alpha Romero hummed under his breath, the doctor silent now. He was evidently awaiting further instructions.
Alpha Romero cleared his throat. “How soon after can she resume s****I duties?” he asked aggressively as I tensed. What a question to ask! Did the man have no conscience?
“Well um, that’s a difficult question to answer” the doctor began nervously and Alpha Romero roared at him “How soon? I want to know! I need an heir damnit and as soon as bloody possible. I’m not going to wait if I don’t have to!”
I cringed. The doctor sounded shocked. “One week at the most,” he said quietly “two days after would be the minimum.” “I’ll wait one” Alpha Romero sneered “and that’s only if she behaves” he snarled “Otherwise she’ll bloody well do as I want.” The doctor gasped. I felt bile rise up in my throat. What a bastard. I didn’t intend on letting him get his hands on me, however.
Once more I tried to reach Lilith. Alpha Romero had made one mistake. He had thought that rope would be enough to hold me and that I would be weakened by the wolfsbane. Stefanie clearly hadn’t told him I was a white wolf, but then she hadn’t been privy to that information. Finally, an advantage that would be solely for me. I reached out to Lilith.
Lilith are you there? Please answer me. I don’t know what I’m going to do.
I’m here. I’ve just been waiting and trying to recover enough for us to be able to shift. I had to conserve my energy. That wolfsbane really took it out of me. When we get out of here, I’m getting the privilege of killing that b***h Stefanie.
That can wait. This crazy Alpha Romero is going to kill our child. He’s forcing the doctor to do it!
Oh, I heard Lilith said grimly but we have the element of surprise up our sleeve. He still thinks you’re unconscious. Moron. Not to mention that the wolfsbane has weakened you. When I shout out shift, you’re going to shift, no questions asked, and we’re going to run for it. You got that? I don’t have time for you to hesitate, Jordan, it’s a life-and-death situation here. I got it. I’m just scared I admitted as I heard footsteps approaching where I lay.
Don’t be, you have me remember. I won’t leave you. Just get ready. We don’t have much time and I’m not hanging around for whatever the hell these assholes have planned for us.
”
I felt somebody stroking my hair. I had to fight my body’s natural instinct to tense again. I could hear loud bottles clinking together. “I’m just going to prepare a sedative so that she stays under for the procedure,” the doctor said timidly.
“Well hurry up, before she wakes” Alpha Romero snapped “I want this done so I can move her. Do you have any idea how long I’ve waited to have this girl? Ever since I saw her, I’ve wanted her. I’m not about to let her slip through my fingers now.
That’s what he thought, I thought to myself grimly.
Lilith spoke, urgently, shouting out in my mind SHIFT Jordan, Shift now!
My eyes flew open and I shifted, my body turning into a white wolf as the doctor flung himself backward and Alpha Romero stared in shock, my wolf flinging itself through the window and breaking the boards with ease, our body landing on the ground and then throwing itself forward, our paws thudding loudly along the ground.
Keep going in this direction Lilith instructed, as we heard the distinct sounds of Alpha Romero’s wolf coming up behind us I think I can smell our mate’s scent in the distance. He’s coming for us Jordan.
All the way out here? I was skeptical but she was right. His scent was there, along with someone else’s. We flew, the trees passing by in a blur, Alpha Romero right on our tail. We could have turned and fought, but Lilith was still recovering from the wolfsbane and couldn’t risk it.
We jumped over a fallen tree and skidded to a stop as several wolves leaped over me, heading Alpha Romero off. Blaze was here! I turned and nuzzled his shoulder as he licked my face, before turning to the other two wolves, whom I knew by sight. What were Jaxon and Alex doing here?
I barely had time to thank my lucky stars before Alpha Romero let out a furious snarl, not even intimidated in the slightest by the arrival of three wolves, two of whom were Alpha’s, darting forward, only to be met by a pissed-off-looking Lucifer as they began to fight right in front of my eyes, my feet planted firmly to the floor, my eyes wide in horror, my heart racing in fear as I prayed for my mate’s safety.
I can’t hold this form any longer, sorry Jordan Lilith panted in my mind, sounding apologetic.
Before I had a chance to respond, I felt myself shifting back into my human form, my body kneeling on the cold hard ground, my arms wrapped around my body. Jaxon and Alex shifted, joining me as I watched, tears pricking the corners of my eyes. There was no sign of the doctor anywhere. He’d probably made a run for it. I didn’t blame him. At least he’d tried to do the decent thing, even if it had almost gotten him killed.
“He’ll be okay Jordan,” Jaxon said quietly as we watched “Trust me, he’s angry enough to take on an army of Alpha’s and survive right now.”
I nodded, before my eyes lit up, the baby raccoon skittering towards me, before racing up my arm and nestling in my shoulder. It had instinctively leaped to the floor, moments before I shifted and I had felt regret at having to leave it behind. It burrowed behind my hair and I patted it absently.
“I know he’ll be okay” I murmured “but emotionally? After his sister has betrayed him? That’s a whole other story.” Would he ever be the same after this? I doubted it. I had been saved, but at what cost? I had yet to find out, my eyes remaining fixed on my mate the entire time, as I watched the fight continue to unfold, my mate’s anger giving him the strength of several Alphas as he fought to get me back to his side and vanquish the villain that had dared to snatch me from him.
