Jaxon POV
I drove towards my pack, the Full Moon Pack, the wind blowing through my hair, the radio on full blast, bopping my head to the music. My hand patted the steering wheel. The new school wasn’t so bad, although it seemed to comprise of pack members who were incredibly cruel towards Jordan. I didn’t see what they had against her. She was stunning. Her curves were only enhanced by her lovely personality. The unmated males in my pack wouldn’t have hesitated to ask her on a date. I guess it goes to show just how different each pack is in their attitudes toward those who are of a lower rank than them.
I pulled up in the front of the pack house. It was more like a mansion, with Greek-style columns out the front, gorgeous flowerbeds surrounding it, and balconies on every floor. My parents had put a lot of work and effort into the house and it showed. I parked the car and hopped out, grabbed my backpack, and shut the car door with a gentle clang. I knew my parents were no doubt either on the grounds or in the house doing work. I smiled to myself and nonchalantly headed inside, my backpack hoisted over my shoulder as I made my way into the kitchen. I was starving. My mother, the Luna, for now, was busy chatting to another mother in the pack. As soon as she saw me though, she wrapped up her discussion and turned to me with a big smile on her face.
“Jaxon” she squealed, her good mood contagious, coming over and hugging me “How was school today? Did you meet anyone special” she prodded, as we sat down.
I laughed. Trust my mother to wonder if I’d met my mate. I shook my head. “Sorry Mother,” I said drily “but there was no prince charming waiting for me” I teased.
My mother knew I was gay as did my father. Both of them accepted it and never treated me any differently. It wasn’t exactly uncommon in shifters, but then there would always be those who looked down on it for their own personal or religious reasons. In my pack, you either accepted it or got thrown out, but other packs didn’t have the same principles as the Full Moon Pack. Another reason why I loved my pack so much.
“Well maybe he was off sick,” Mother said hopefully.
I laughed. “I doubt it but I did meet someone today who was interesting. It’s a little sad really” I said with a sigh “She’s utterly gorgeous but her pack ostracizes her and the students at school pick on her.”
My mother looked incensed. “What possible reason do they have for picking on this girl” she demanded heatedly. She hated bullies with a passion. I could tell already that she was prepared to battle for a complete stranger.
“Her name is Jordan and she’s well a little” I shifted uncomfortably, not sure how to describe it delicately “curvier than the other girls at school.”
My mother raised an eyebrow. “Hardly a reason to bully her. Our pack doesn’t cater to the supermodel thin figure. It’s what’s inside that counts” she said, repeating the familiar words to me again.
“Yeah, but not every pack is the same. You know how some only like stick-thin girls” I pointed out “to the point where they have cast out any overweight shifters in their pack. How many have come to ours for a new beginning because their pack didn’t want them?”
My mother sighed. “It’s a sad world we live in when people can’t get past looks. The council is working to change the laws so that nobody can be cast out of their pack just for not fitting in with the so-called status quo.”
It couldn’t happen too soon I thought to myself darkly. I noticed no men ever got cast out of the packs for being larger than normal. It was all one-sided. It rankled. Not to mention I had seen just how little self-esteem Jordan had because of it.
“Her sister is a real piece of work” I added with a sneer, “thinks she’s better than Jordan. Another one of those clique mean girls with no brain” I said angrily.
“Well, maybe you can invite Jordan here to stay?” my mother suggested kindly “even if it’s only for a night or two. Although “she paused “if it is as bad as you say, they might not object to her staying permanently.”
“What you mean to have a girl in my room mother, for the night?” I gasped in fake outrage making her laugh out loud ” Aren’t you supposed to set the rules down for the home?”
“As if I need to worry about you with a girl,” my mother said frankly “To be honest you probably wouldn’t know what to do with her let alone be able to get it up.”
Whoa. Serious shade was thrown down by my mother. Touché, I thought appreciatively even as my mouth gaped open in shock.
“Mother you can’t say things like that” I stammered, blushing bright red.
“Why not? It’s true, isn’t it? Now if it was a gorgeous hunk that you were bringing to the pack and spending the night with, then I would have reason to be concerned” she added “I’d have to make sure you had condoms on you and lube, lots of lube. It doesn’t hurt to be prepared” she lectured me.
Oh my god. I wanted the floor to dissolve under my feet and take me away with it. She had not just said that. “Um can we stop talking about my love life” I groaned “It’s very inappropriate.”
“I’m just saying that I support your choices, sweetheart.”
God, I needed somebody else to come into the kitchen. Anybody. As it was it was lucky we were the only two in there, otherwise I’d have to face the pack members who would have heard every word uttered out of my mother’s mouth.
My stomach growled, loudly. “I’m starving” I complained and my mother mind-linked an omega to come in. “Please bring my son some food,” she asked the girl whose name was Chelsea “he’s starving apparently,” she said chuckling.
Chelsea smiled and bowed her head, heading into the kitchen as my mouth watered. My wolf was hungry too. Aries had a ferocious appetite. We both did. He was eagerly anticipating what food might be served up. When Chelsea came back with two large chocolate chip muffins, our favorite, and an iced coffee he practically purred.
“Thanks, Chelsea” I moaned around a mouthful of food.
The omega giggled and bowed her head, heading back out of the dining room. My mother watched me eat, an indulgent look on her face.
“Ah, it must be nice not to have to watch what you eat. You know I don’t think I’ve ever seen you consume a salad” she said thoughtfully.
Urgh. Salad. Rabbit food. I despised it. I was more of a sweets and savory person. I liked my meat and potato too. But lettuce, celery, and the other more nutritional components? They made me feel nauseous just to look at it.
My father, the current Alpha, although he would be stepping down when I graduated, came wandering into the kitchen. He immediately crossed the floor and bent down to kiss my mother. She eagerly reciprocated while I wrinkled my nose. I was used to their displays of public affection by now. It was completely normal for shifters. That didn’t mean it didn’t make me slightly uncomfortable though. I mean, they were my parents making out in front of me.
“Hi sweetheart,” said my father and then turned to me, his eyes twinkling “Hello son, how was your day?”
“Oh you wouldn’t believe it but he’s made a new friend” my mother gushed.
My god, was I in kindergarten? Did she have to speak as though I didn’t have any friends?
“Oh yeah,” my father said interested, standing behind my mother and putting his hands on her shoulders “Would this be a male friend” he winked at me and I stared at him, wondering if I could wish this conversation away.
“No,” my mother said hastily “it was a girl and he’s going to ask her to spend a few nights here.”
My father looked confused. “Have you decided you’re bi? I mean it doesn’t matter either way, but you seemed pretty damn sure you were gay.”
“No Dad, I’m still gay,” I said patiently, thinking about smacking my head into the table “but this girl is really nice and she seems to be in need of somebody to care about her. You would like her.”
“He’s being tactful,” my mother said with a slight bite to her voice “She’s being bullied for being curvier than the normal wolf.”
My father nodded slowly, not looking surprised by that in the slightest. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully “And you agreed to let her sleep in his room?” he asked my mother.
“Of course, I did. What’s he going to do? Accidentally get her pregnant?” My mother asked mystified. “Unless she looks like a boy, he’s not going to be able to do anything. It’s perfectly safe” she said with satisfaction.
My father burst into laughter, tears coming to his eyes. I glowered at them both. “We’re just teasing son,” he said guffawing “You know we love you.”
I finished my last chocolate muffin and stared at the plate sadly. I looked at my mother with pleading eyes. She gave a huff and got up, heading into the kitchen and grabbing two more, which she slid in front of me.
“By all means invite this girl to our pack. You know we thrive on being hospitable to other pack members. But please don’t decide that you want to experiment” he continued as I cringed “Your mother and I are not ready to have grandbabies from the result of what might turn out to be a big regret. I can set you up with a professional if you want to experiment” he added, flinching as my mother smacked him on the head, fire in her eyes.
“Thanks, but I think I’ll wait for my mate” I growled.
“Yes, because he’s not a manwhore” my mother hissed “unlike some I could mention.”
Uh oh. I think my father inadvertently reminded my mother he hadn’t waited for her. It was a bone of contention between them. She had waited and been devastated to find he hadn’t. My father had a panicked look in his eyes now as he looked at me for help.
Like hell. He got himself into this situation. I finished my muffin and grabbed my backpack.
“Where are you going son?” asked my father desperately “Why not stay and chat a little longer?”
I smirked. “I’m off to do homework,” I said gleefully as my mother put her hands on her hips “but I think mother would be happy to continue talking to you.”
With that parting shot, I headed out of the kitchen, my father looking as though he was about to be hung by his balls. I didn’t envy him one bit. Maybe next time, he would think twice before opening his mouth and speaking his mind. A good Alpha takes stock of the room, I thought with a grin, shame Father had failed to do that. I settled on my bed and opened up my math book, laughing at the idea of what might be happening downstairs.
