Jaxon POV
We parked in front of the pack house with a sigh of relief. It was late morning. Although we would have loved to have spent some more time with Jordan, both Alex and I were keen to get back home, not to mention we felt awkward about the whole Blaze needing to deal with his sister thing. Boy, I did not envy him. I shook my head feeling sympathetic for the poor bastard. Alex squeezed my hand, his eyes looking concerned. I gave him a sidelong glance. What the hell was he so worried about? We hadn’t exactly been gone that long. Then he spoke and it all became clear.
“Do you think Clover’s okay? They wouldn’t have forgotten to feed the rabbit would they?” he asked worriedly.
Are you freaking kidding me? He was worried about the bunny? I would have laughed but he was dead serious, already opening the car door and ready to rush upstairs to check on it.
“I’m sure the bunny survived our absence,” I said with a grimace “but by all means let’s go and check on it.”
Alex looked relieved. I sighed. I got out and shut the driver’s side door and then grabbed his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze, and then grabbed his chin and kissed him, hard, possessively as he blinked in surprise. “Just a reminder of who you belong to” I growled.
He kissed me back. “Like I need reminding” he retorted.
I grinned. I opened the pack house door and ushered him inside. Alex began to head upstairs, in haste, taking the stairs two at a time, as I followed behind at a more sedate pace. I frowned. I had expected mother and father to greet us on their return but perhaps they had gone out shopping or were on the grounds. I shrugged. No matter. Maybe, I thought with my eyes lighting up, I could persuade Alex to have some personal time with me in the bedroom before they got back. Providing one of us remembered to lock the damn door this time!
We reached the bedroom door and eyed it. “What do you think this means?” Alex asked grimly.
I was exasperated. “It could mean anything,” I said with dread. “It’s mother’s influence, I’m certain of it. I should have known she was up to something. Damn it” I swore, running a hand through my hair as Alex raised an eyebrow. I began to pull the diapers sticky taped to the door off with a groan. “For god’s sake can’t she just say something without making a point” I huffed.
Alex just giggled and pulled the rest of them off. It didn’t take much time and soon I was pulling at the handle. We walked inside and halted in our tracks. Words failed me. I was speechless. I didn’t know where to look. I couldn’t believe how far she had gone. She must have roped in several omegas to get this job done in time. I didn’t know whether to be impressed or not. Part of me wanted to laugh and part of me wanted to cry. I put a hand over my eyes and counted to ten, before lowering it back down. Nope. My room still looked the same.
“My god” Alex breathed, sounding impressed “this is going to take us ages to get rid of.”
“You think” I said grumpily.
So much for intimate time with Alex.
My mother had gone insane. That was the only explanation I could think of. My room had been wrapped in wrapping paper. The walls, the furniture, the chairs, the mattress, our pillows, the television, books, you name it. If it could be wrapped it was. That wasn’t the worst of it. Everywhere I looked there were little babies floating around on shelves, on the bed, on the floor, scattered across the dresser, and so forth. I gaped. Alex made a strangled sound and rushed towards the rabbit cage, which thankfully was untouched. The only thing really that was. Clover looked at Alex with adoration in their eyes, Alex reached in to pick the rabbit up and cuddled it close to his chest, stroking its soft fur as he looked around the room helplessly.
“Poor Clover” he cooed, stroking its ears “You must have missed me so much” he gushed.
I rolled my eyes. I surveyed the room, not sure where to start. Would it be wrong to mind-link some omegas and get them to deal with the mess? I hesitated. Mother had done this for a reason. I looked at the wrapping paper but it was all a neutral and rather horrific pastel green colour. The babies were a mixture of boys and girls so clearly she wasn’t informing us of the gender. At least I didn’t think this was. Was this revenge for taking too long to work out the gender? It was hardly our fault, I thought sourly, she was the one who’d given us a rabbit and told us to guess damn it! This was her fault.
“Maybe we could pretend we didn’t come home” I suggested drily.
Alex clutched the rabbit protectively “And leave poor Clover alone again” he protested, shaking his head “No way. The poor rabbit must have been traumatized with us gone.”
Was he serious? The way he was looking protectively at the rabbit said he was. My mouth fell open. Aries thought it was adorable the way our mate was so attached to the minuscule creature. I was just envious of the attention it received.
“What do you propose we do then” I said frustratingly.
Alex calmly reached over to the wall and ripped the wrapping paper off with one hand, raising an eyebrow at me. “I guess we have to rip the wrapping paper off everything and clear the room of the babies,” he said drily as though it was blatantly obvious, which it bloody was. It just was a lot of work that I didn’t really want to do.
I mind-linked some omegas and snarled at them to bring up boxes to put the rubbish in, tearing at the wrapping paper begrudgingly. They came running, placing the boxes respectfully down in front of me and submitting their necks.
“I suppose you’re not allowed to help?” I asked with curiosity.
They shook their heads looking fearful. “Luna Serena strictly forbade us to” they whispered.
Of course, she did. I dismissed them and began to stuff the wrapping paper and rubbish into the boxes, trying not to lose my cool. I swear I was going to kill my mother when I got my hands on her.
Alex helped but steadfastly refused to put the rabbit down. He closed the bedroom door so it wouldn’t accidentally escape. “Do you think your mum wants to keep these little baby doll things?” he asked doubtfully as he picked several up and eyed them.
“Too bad if she does,” I told him, grabbing them and tossing them “Should have thought of that before she put them in my room” I hissed.
God were they multiplying? For every single one I found, I swear three more appeared. “I guess this is her way of telling us to hurry up and figure out the gender,” Alex said looking at Clover and shrugging.
“There are better ways to do it” I sulked.
Finally, we were done. The omegas took the boxes and I sat on the bed, winded, stretching my shoulders. Alex put Clover in the cage and then sat behind me, massaging my shoulders as I moaned in appreciation. God that felt good. He kissed the top of my head.
“You have to admit it was kind of funny” he murmured.
“You only say that because you like my mother” I ‘I grumbled.
He didn’t deny it. “Let’s just say it’s never boring here,” he said teasingly. I laughed. The door swung open and we stiffened. My mother beamed at us and looked at the room with disappointment.
“Oh, you cleaned it faster than I thought you would” she exclaimed, ignoring the glower I sent her way.
“Was there a point you were trying to make when you decided to wrap our bedroom in bloody wrapping paper” I exploded. “Well yes,” she said calmly and rather annoyed “you’re taking entirely too long to work out the gender. I’ve been patient for far too long. How are you going to host a baby shower if you don’t work out what I’m having first?”
My father sheepishly poked his head through the doorway and waved. I glared at him. He shrugged. He wasn’t about to apologize for my mother’s actions. I seethed. My mother cleared her throat.
“So I have a surprise for you,” she said delightedly “seeing as you seem to be quite useless in deciding whether Clover is a boy or a girl,” she said, pointedly staring at the bunny who looked a bit taken aback by the fierceness in my mother’s face, I will help you but you need to come with me” she squealed.
Oh gods no, what on earth was she up to now? My father looked apologetic. I swore I heard Alex giggle behind me. He looked completely innocent when I shot a look over my shoulder though. I stood up reluctantly and my mother turned and led the way downstairs, towards the study. Inside, on the desk, was a large box. She pointed to it. It was wrapped really nicely with a bow on top.
“You just have to unwrap it,” she said easily, smirking at me.
I groaned out loud. More unwrapping. Somehow the prospect was not exciting at all. I tore the ribbon off and then unwrapped it to discover, another box wrapped up. My mother giggled.
Alex took over, surprise, surprise, he unwrapped the gift to find, another box wrapped up. My mother’s eyes were gleaming now. My father was sitting in the study chair behind the desk, looking highly amused and trying not to laugh. My mother clapped her hands excitedly.
“How many layers are there” I groused, unwrapping it again.
We continued, finally coming to a box that had two identical small boxes wrapped inside it. I placed one in front of Alex and then eyed mine doubtfully. There was no telling what it might contain. Poison? A rare herb? A gemstone? It could literally be anything.
Alex and I nodded at each other and then began to slowly unwrap the box. We took the lid off and then simultaneously gasped, our cheeks turning bright red. I spluttered. Alex coughed. My father choked. “Mother,” I said very quietly, turning to look at her as she grinned “Is this what I think it is?”
I wasn’t a moron but what kind of parent gifts her son and his mate with a crystal v****a? Maybe I was looking at it wrong. “It’s a v****a” Mother squealed.
Apparently, I was looking at it correctly. “I’m having a girl” she squealed “Aren’t you happy for me?”
I gave her a hug, embracing her tight. A sister. I was going to have a little sister. Alex hugged her and congratulated her. Then we glanced at the crystal gift. “I thought it would make a memorable keepsake,” my mother said “a unique one. Don’t you think?”
“Oh it’s unique alright” I agreed ominously as Alex stared at the ground, his shoulders shaking suspiciously “But um, what am I supposed to do with it?” I asked her helplessly.
Father was laughing, tears trailing down his cheeks, his face in his hands. “Put it on display,” Mother said confused” There’s no shame in the female form son. You know that.”
My father laughed harder. I gave up. I would just hide it in a drawer I decided. I smiled at her and just nodded, gritting my teeth.
“So Clover is a girl,” Alex said delightedly “How cute” he cried.
Oh right, the bunny. I guess I could call it a she now.
There was a knock on the door. Thank god, a distraction. A warrior poked his head in. “Sorry to interrupt,” he said smoothly as my father straightened up, still giggling slightly as the warrior looked at him concerned “but there’s a Mr and Mrs.
Jacobs here. They claim they are here to see their son Alex who I believe is Alpha Jaxon’s mate.”
Within seconds Alex had stopped laughing and an angry look had appeared on his face. My father cleared his throat. Thank you, please inform them we will be out there shortly.”
My mother looked fiercely at Alex “Say the word and I’ll boot their asses out, even if I have to chase them with a wooden spoon” she snarled and Alex laughed hard at that image before sobering quickly.
“No,” he said quietly “I’ll see what it is they want.”
I grabbed his hand before he could move “We’ll see what they want” I corrected him with a growl “because I’m not leaving you to face them alone.”
