                    Grant POV
I eyed the nursery in satisfaction, Juliet beside me looking just as satisfied, a small smile on her face, her eyes glowing as we took in the room, both of us breathing heavily. We had painted the room a beautiful light silver with a mural on one wall containing images of wolves and the forest. There was a bassinet in one corner and a cot in another. A white change table sat in the middle of them both, loaded with diapers, talcum powder, nappy cream, and wipes. Another small table beside that contained a bunch of empty bottles, formula, and a bottle warmer plugged in. There were some toys in one corner along with a play mat and rocker. There was a nursing chair that rocked back and forth. A pram and a dresser loaded with various sizes of clothing. I had dummies, blankets, swaddles, you named it. My mother and Juliet had gone shopping while I visited the NICU and bought anything and everything I could possibly need for Jadette. As well as stuff I suspected I didn’t need but they had deemed necessary or too damn cute not to buy. I wasn’t about to complain. I really, really hated to shop.
“This is just beautiful,” Juliet said with her eyes shining as she looked around the room.
“Are you sure you’re really okay with all this?” I asked her, even as my mind flashed back to how she had felt when I was inside of her, her body writhing on the bed beneath me, her little moans and cries, her nails digging into my back, her head flung back. God, I would have killed to do it again, but right now we were preparing for Jaydette’s arrival. Still, it would happen again, and soon, I vowed, my c**k twitching at the very thought of it.
“I told you, we can both learn together, that is if you don’t mind that I might be slow to pick things up,” she said anxiously. I laughed. “Considering I know nothing, I’m certain we’ll be helping each other,” I told her.
She grinned “Then I think we’ll be fine” she teased.
Then her face turned serious “I hope one day to have a baby of my own. I don’t know why I didn’t get pregnant with Alpha Romero but maybe…” she trailed off, looking a bit stricken. I knew I needed to reassure her.
I kissed her, deeply, leaving her breathless. “I would love nothing more than that. But if it doesn’t happen, I still consider myself lucky to have found you.”
“But what if I can’t? Won’t you want someone who can give you heirs?” she protested.
I shook my head. “All I want is you. I won’t abandon you if you can’t give me babies. There’s always adoption or the option of not having children. We can discuss all that later. I love you, Juliet, even if we haven’t known each other long. I feel like I’ve known you my whole life. What you went through with Romero, I can’t change that” I said regretfully “but I can make your future brighter and filled with love and affection, if you’ll let me.”
Her eyes shone with unshed tears as she put a hand to her mouth. “Oh Grant” she murmured.
She stood on her tiptoes and kissed me on the cheek. A small crying noise interrupted us as well as the sound of someone subtly clearing their throat.
We looked towards the doorway. My mother was beaming and holding a tiny Jadette in her arms. “Look who I have” she crowed.
Juliet immediately rushed over and stroked Jadette’s hair, a look of awe on her face. Jadette quieted slightly but continued to cry. My mother looked apologetic. “I think she needs a bottle,” she said, bouncing her slightly.
“Oh right,” I said, heading over. I poured cooled boiling water from a jug, filled it to the desired amount, and then added the proper number of scoops of formula, before putting the teat on and shaking the bottle, putting it into the warmer while mother handed Jadette to Juliet, looking around the room with a wide smile on her face.
“The room looks gorgeous” she exclaimed, coming over and kissing me on the forehead “You guys have done a really good job,” she said warmly.
“Thanks for going and getting Jaydette so we could finish up” I mumbled, watching Juliet out of the corner of my eye. She was so good with the baby, rocking Jadette gently in her arms and cooing softly to her, in an attempt to soothe her.
“Oh it was my pleasure” Mother gushed “I just adore my grandbaby,” she said winking.
My father stepped inside and viewed the room, nodding at me pleased. “I thought I heard my grandbaby crying,” he said softly, Juliet handing the bub to him. It made a funny picture, my big, tall, broad-shouldered father, gingerly holding the tiny baby in his hands and rocking her as she blinked up at him in surprise.
“Hello little darling” he cooed, infatuated with her, a wide grin on his face.
I stifled my laughter. Both my parents were enamored with my daughter. I couldn’t blame them. She was utterly adorable. I checked the temperature of the bottle on my wrist, like my mother had taught me to do, and turned the warmer off.
“Time for a bottle” I announced, feeling smug. I had made her first bottle at home, all by myself, without stuffing up. “I’ll give it to her,” all three voices said simultaneously at the same time.
Everyone looked at each other sheepishly as I laughed outright. It looked like I would never be stuck for help. Somehow, I doubted they would all be this enthusiastic if it was a diaper that needed changing.
“Grant really should be the one to give it to her, he is the father” my mother murmured “Give him time to bond with his daughter. We can always find time later to have a turn” she convinced my father who sighed and reluctantly handed my daughter to me. Juliet eyed me enviously.
I headed over to the nursing chair. Mother quickly grabbed a bib and a small blanket. She put the bib on Jadette and then the blanket over my shoulder as I sat. I gently put the teat of the bottle into my daughter’s mouth, watching in awe as she sucked greedily. Everybody watched fascinated, Juliet looking over my shoulder. Thank god she didn’t look like Sarah, I thought not for the first time, relishing holding her, smelling her baby scent, and holding her protectively.
“Don’t forget to burp her” Mother instructed me and I nodded, handing the bottle to Juliet and placing the baby over my shoulder, patting her back gently. My daughter let out a ferocious burp and we all laughed. I gave her the bottle again, relaxing. Juliet stroked her cheek and let out a content sigh.
“She looks so much like you Grant,” she said wistfully.
“Doesn’t she” agreed my mother as my father nodded. She gave my father a look and they subtly left the room, leaving me and Juliet with my baby.
“Do you want to try?” I asked her and she nodded eagerly.
We swapped and I watched her handle Jadette carefully, like a fragile piece of China. They looked so cute together. Like mother and daughter. It made a beautiful picture. My breath caught in my throat.
Juliet burped the baby again and then held her, rocking her back and forth. Jadette’s eyes began to flutter closed. She was falling asleep. “You might want to take her” she whispered anxiously.
I quickly took Jadette, continuing to rock her back and forth as I made my way to the bassinet. Jadette closed her eyes fully, snuggling into me. I was hesitant to put her down. Love swelled inside of me. I gripped Jadette a little tighter, sniffing her. Hades purred.
Our pup is so little and tiny but it will grow to be a fierce warrior one day he said smugly.
I don’t care what she grows up to be so long as she’s healthy and happy I told Hades firmly that’s all that matters to me.
I want more pups just like this one. They are so adorable and cute.
We might not be able to Hades, but I’ll be happy if we have our mate in our life.
Me too, but wouldn’t it be great if we could have both?
Yeah buddy, but sometimes life doesn’t work that way. I love Juliet, I’m going to show her it every day.
I tentatively placed Jadette down in the bassinette, keeping a hand on her for a minute, to see if she woke up, before placing a blanket on her. She continued to sleep, her little chest rising and falling as she wrinkled her little nose, her soft snores filling the room. Juliet joined me, placing her arm in mine as we watched, silently together. I was loathe to leave. But she could sleep for hours yet. I reached over and turned the monitor on, even as I knew I would be checking on Jadette every few minutes. I tugged Juliet by the hand through the adjoining door, leaving the door open between both bedrooms, so that I could hear Jadette if need be. I was an anxious father, perhaps a little overprotective, but I was new to this, and I was afraid of messing things up.
We sat on the bed together. I looked at Juliet. “You know you don’t have to stay up here with me” I whispered apologetically “You can go walk around the grounds or I’m sure my mother would love to have your company” I added.
“You don’t have to stay up here either, but I’m willing to bet you’re too nervous to leave the room while she’s sleeping” Juliet shot back, her eyes dancing. “So, I’ll stay. I don’t mind” she added with a shrug “As long as I get to spend time with you, then it’s not like it’s wasted.”
She blushed. It was adorable I grabbed her hand. Stroked it. Watched her bite her lip as tingles ran down the both of us. The mate bond was so strong that I couldn’t even bear to be in a separate room from her. I placed her hand on my chest, over my heart, where it was racing.
“Do you hear that?” I whispered as she widened her eyes at me “That’s what you do to me, just being near me.” My heart beat for her and it longed for her.
“She put my hand over her chest, over her heart. “Do you hear my heart racing?” she whispered, and I inhaled sharply That’s what you do to me” she confessed. “I’ve never felt this way towards anyone before. Never. I’ve fallen in love with you Grant, which is both thrilling and terrifying at the same time” she confessed.
She loved me. She f*****g loved me. My heart sang with joy. This was the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Hades was growling, pacing back and forth, encouraging me to go for it. I couldn’t resist, didn’t want to hold back anymore. I wanted her not just as my Luna but as my everything. But would she say the magic words and end my agony or would she break my heart if I dared to ask the question hovering on my lips?
