Jordan POV
Blaze is acting odd. I know he’s still contemplating what might have happened to Stefanie and that’s causing some stress between us both, but it’s not that. At least I don’t think that’s the reason for his odd behavior. I stare out the window of the car, watching the scenery pass by. We’d said our goodbyes as we left Jaxon’s pack and were now heading back home. Thomas would be grateful to see us, I thought with amusement. The poor man was probably sick of being left in charge for a day or so here or there. Finally, I couldn’t stand the silence any longer. The tension in the car was so thick you could practically cut through it with a knife.
“Blaze, what’s wrong?” I said, finally fed up. God, it was infuriating, the silence.
His jaw tightened. “What do you mean?” he asked, staring at the front window, avoiding my gaze “Why would you think there was something wrong?”
I eyed him suspiciously. “You’re acting weird” I accused him, “You’ve been practically silent the entire drive. Have I done something to offend you or upset you?”
Maybe it was me. I wracked my brain trying to think of something I might have done. Nothing came to mind though. Now I had his attention. His eyes shot to me, startled. “I’m not upset or angry with you,” he said sounding shocked “I’m just trying to concentrate,” he said looking a bit distracted.
I didn’t believe him. Neither did Lilith. She spoke to me before I could let my anger get the best out of me.
He’s definitely up to something. Lucifer refuses to tell me what’s going on either she pouted I bet if we told them to pull the car over we could manage to find a way to persuade them to talk she said saucily, sending me images of what that would exactly entail. I swallowed hard, not willing to admit that I was enticed by the suggestion.
Somehow I get the feeling that even if we tried that he would just say no I said grumpily.
I knew it was irrational but I was fast finding myself becoming irritated with his lack of communication. Would it kill him just to talk to me? We were partners, right? What happened about not keeping secrets from each other?
Well, maybe it’s a nice surprise or something? Maybe he’s not speaking because he’s worried he’ll slip up. Although that doesn’t bloody excuse Lucifer. He could just say it’s a secret without giving anything away. Bloody men Lilith snarled.
Amen to that. Why do men have to make things so complicated I agreed All it would take is it’s a secret and I can’t tell you. It’s not that hard, is it? How would he like it if I kept things from him I huffed.
It would drive him crazy Lilith said wickedly, smirking maybe we should try it.
I sighed. No, I’m just going to leave it and stay quiet. Whatever is bothering him or whatever this secret is, he’ll tell me eventually I told her.
She pouted and sulked. I almost joined her in solidarity. Almost.
We reached the pack house. Blaze hopped out first, and then walked around, opening the passenger door and assisting me out. I expected that we would be walking into the pack house but instead, he began to lead me around the back of it. That was weird.
“Where are we going?” I asked him confused. I thought he would want to rest after what was relatively a few hours drive. He gave me a slow smile. “You’ll see,” he told me.
Okay then, I thought to myself nonchalantly, letting him pull me with him. Suddenly he stopped and produced a blindfold of all things, from his pocket. “Um Blaze, you’re not thinking of something kinky are you?” I said, “Because I don’t particularly think it’s a good idea to. . .” I trailed off wondering how best to refuse. I mean, it was daylight for heaven’s sake! Hardly the best time or place for that! Although Lilith was up for it. She was grinning wickedly as she thought of all sorts of ways that blindfold could be used and the various places.
“No, no, no” he interrupted looking sheepish “It’s um for something else,” he said, holding it up and motioning for me to turn around.
I turned and then saw nothing but darkness as he placed the blindfold over my eyes and tightened it around my head. I reached blindly out and he grasped my hand, gently turning me back around. “Just let me lead you” he whispered.
Like I had a choice, I thought wryly to myself. He’d done such a good job with the blindfold I was literally blind. I still had my other senses, and I could smell a variety of different scents as we slowly walked on the grass, my hand grasping Blazes for dear life.
“I know this might seem unexpected,” Blaze said nervously “but the thing is, that we should have done this ages ago. I’ve been a bit disorganized, but all that’s going to change” he vowed.
“Is this to do with your Aunt and Uncle?” I asked, feeling myself tense a bit.
His Aunt and Uncle who had never made it the day they were supposed to and had cried off, claiming they had different plans and would make it another day.
“No honey, it’s not,” Blaze said indulgently. “This is something much, much better” he promised.
I breathed a sigh of relief. I wasn’t exactly in the mood to meet complete strangers who I was certain would disapprove of me, judging by their love of Stefanie. I was glad they hadn’t made it that day. Even if Blaze had been annoyed at the complete disregard of his time.
“Well then what is this?” I asked confused.
“Just wait” he breathed, as my feet trod on the occasional leaf, sinking into the soft grass, the gentle wind caressing my face.
I giggled in spite of myself. This was interesting. I felt excited, wondering what was going on. I couldn’t envision what this could be. Lilith was fascinated, although blind as well.
What do you think it is she said excitedly.
I don’t know but it must be something pretty special I murmured for him to be going to this much trouble.
Suddenly we stopped. “Stay perfectly still” Blaze’s voice sounded from behind me.
I stilled. I felt self-conscious all of a sudden. I felt stiff as a board as he began to slowly untie the blindfold from behind my head. He whipped it off and I blinked, my eyes trying to adjust to the sudden brightness of the light. I let out a gasp as I saw the entire pack in front of me, Thomas standing to the side, clutching a small dagger and a goblet of all things. “It’s time for you to officially become Luna” Blaze murmured, “and be welcomed into the pack as a leader.”
Tears pricked the corners of my eyes. The crowd let out a cheer, all of them showing their support. My mouth gaped open. This wasn’t what I had been expecting. I mean it was inevitable, going to happen eventually, but never had I thought it would happen today.
“Are you sure” I whispered, hand to my mouth. Maybe this was just a dream?
“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life,” Blaze said gruffly, taking my hand and squeezing it, his eyes looking right into mine, his tone dripping with sincerity. “Nobody else has the right to be Luna, besides you, my queen” be breathed.
My heart melted. I glanced down at my outfit ruefully. He viewed me with nothing but love in his eyes. “You look perfect” he whispered, “there’s nothing I would change.”
I placed a hand on my swollen stomach. Thomas cleared his throat and stepped closer, offering the dagger to Blaze, who took it, resting it on the palm of his hand. It wasn’t made of silver because it didn’t burn his skin. I was still a bit trepidatious though, as I eyed it out of the corner of my eye.
“Today we are here to welcome a new Luna as leader of our pack and mate to our current Alpha” announced Thomas, facing the crowd who hushed and went silent, watching the proceedings intently.
“Woohoo go Jordan” shouted a familiar voice, making me grin. It couldn’t possibly be, could it?
I looked up and saw none other than Jaxon, Alex, Serena, and John standing there, beaming with pride.
“I thought you might like your family here” Blaze murmured as my eyes shone with tears and I smiled at him, falling in love with the man all over again. He knew me so well and knew what was most important to me.
“Jordan, do you agree to become the Luna of the Crimson River Pack? To take on the roles and responsibilities of the Luna in protecting the pack and its members from harm and becoming the leader they need you to be? Will you announce this pack as your new home and do you fully accept Alpha Blaze as your mate and Alpha?”
I took a deep breath. I couldn’t just take this lightly. This meant the world to this pack. I looked over at the members who were holding their breath, waiting for my response. How could I leave this pack, when they had done nothing but welcome me with open arms? How could I leave him? My heart hurt at the mere thought of it. I swallowed hard. As far as I was concerned, there was only one answer that I was going to give. It seemed inconceivable to even contemplate the other.
I opened my mouth to answer when another voice cut in, furious and full of rage. “I object” it shouted, and Blaze and I looked, seeing two people standing there, one woman, one man, both their eyes blazing, the woman a blonde haired blue eyed female, the male black-haired and green-eyed, both tall and powerful looking, as they folded their arms across their chests and glowered at us both. I felt a sense of foreboding as I took in Blaze’s expression and Thomas’s.
I glanced at Blaze uncertainly. His mouth tightened. “I’m afraid you don’t get a say in who becomes my Luna Aunt Claudia, Uncle Mike,” he said with a low growl “The only one who can make that decision is me” he snarled.
The crowd eyed his aunt and Uncle with contempt. Blaze squeezed my hand reassuringly as I hesitated. So this was the Aunt and Uncle who hadn’t made it earlier. Shame they managed to make it today. Jaxon was eyeing them like they were a piece of garbage he’d like to throw into the nearest trash can. Alex looked the same. Jaxon’s mother looked ropeable and I winced, knowing full well what she could be capable of when she was angry.
“Well” prompted Blaze, ignoring his Aunt and Uncle completely “What is your answer?’ he asked desperately.
“Yes,” I breathed and the crowd went wild, while his Aunt and Uncle attempted to swarm towards us, stopped by the crowd who deliberately blocked their attempts, their faces mutinous and angry.
“Quickly,” Thomas said and Blaze drew the dagger across the palm of his hand and I did the same. Before they could stop us, we put the palms of our hands together and I felt a searing pain in my head, my knees buckling as I collapsed, before I felt what felt like a huge bubble forming inside my head and I gained the ability to speak to the entire pack via mind-link. Thomas handed me the goblet and I drank. It was water. I eyed him with laughter. He shrugged. “Figured you would be thirsty,” he said nonplussed as I drank. “I wondered what the goblet was for” Blaze muttered, and I giggled.
“I demand an explanation,” a furious voice said behind us and we turned, Blaze, rolling his eyes, annoyance rolling off him in waves.
