Blaze POV
Trust these fuckers to show up when they are least wanted Lucifer snarled as we turned to face my Aunt Claudia and Uncle Mike. I mind-linked the pack, telling them to disperse, leaving only Jaxon, Alex, Serena, and James behind. They came up behind us while My Aunt and Uncle glowered, pointedly ignoring Jordan, their eyes filled with contempt. They were so much like my mother and father with their thinking and their values. They hadn’t changed a bit I marveled, not that I had expected them to. I glowered at them.
They must have somehow gotten wind of the ceremony but I’m not sure how. There’s no way Thomas would have been stupid enough to have informed them and the pack is loyal as they come I thought to myself.
Lucifer hissed. It’s just a He was pissed.
Even the most loyal of pack members can be bribed if given the right amount of motivation matter of finding out what will make a person desperate enough to betray someone.
True. We’ll look into that later. For now, let’s just deal with the unwelcome company we have here.
It’s pissing me off that they are pretending Jordan doesn’t exist. I’m about ready to… Lucifer snarled and it didn’t take a genius to fill in the blanks. I felt the same way. My mate was not invisible, nor was she there to be ignored.
I deliberately pulled Jordan in, wrapping an arm around her waist. Jaxon and Alex stepped beside her and Jaxon’s parents glowered at my Aunt and Uncle who continued to pretend they weren’t there.
“Aunt Claudia, Uncle Mike,” I said evenly “in case you haven’t noticed or for some inexplicable reason have forgotten how to use your manners, this is my mate and Luna Jordan. Jordan this is my Aunt Claudia and Uncle Mike” I said grimly.
Aunt Claudia sniffed, putting her nose in the air, as though there was something offensive smelling drifting towards her, deliberately snubbing my mate. Jordan bit her tongue. Serena didn’t. God bless that woman.
“I’m Luna Serena and I would say it’s a pleasure to meet you but that would be a lie,” she said harshly, as my aunt blinked in shock “And this is my husband Alpha James who is also too good to introduce himself to the likes of you,” she said tartly. She then flipped them the finger, showing them exactly how she felt.
I fought back my laughter while Lucifer roared with laughter in my mind. Trust good old Serena to speak her mind. Jaxon was one lucky boy I thought with a grin. I would kill to have a mother that protective of me. She was like a fierce Mumma cub, protecting her little bear cub. You’d have to be crazy to mess with her.
“I’m Alpha Jaxon, Jordan’s best friend and higher ranking than you,” Jaxon said smoothly “and this is my mate, also Jordan’s friend and quite frankly a better human being than both of you combined.” He gave Alex a gentle kiss on his mouth and smiled lovingly at him.
Ouch. My aunt’s mouth gaped open. Jordan put a hand to her mouth, trying to hide her giggles. I winked at her. My Uncle was incensed. “Are you just going to let them speak to us like that?” he demanded. He was fairly shaking with rage. It was glorious.
“Well, I can hardly stop them. Free speech and all that” I said drily “And you were rude to my mate, which insulted her family” I said gesturing to them all as they nodded, glowering at my aunt and Uncle “So you kind of deserved it.” Actually, I thought Jaxon and his family had been perfectly civil. They could have been so much worse I mused with a sigh. Serena had been quite restrained, I thought amused.
“Well, I never” Aunt Claudia exclaimed indignantly, her mouth quivering.
Serena rolled her eyes and bustled over, giving Jordan a hug, as I stepped back, James, Jaxon, and Alex doing the same. Do you need us to stay Jordan?” she asked sweetly, glaring at my Aunt Claudia over her shoulder.
We both knew she had an important hospital appointment later that day and that Jaxon was taking Alex on a date. Jordan shook her head, hugging all of them. “Thank you,” she told them, blinking back tears “but I think we have this in hand.”
Jaxon shot me a look “Just so you know my dungeon is empty at the moment and I’m more than happy to accommodate any prisoners sent my way” he snarled. “I’ll even torture them for you and bring them back in pieces if requested.”
“I might have to take you up on that,” I told him wryly, watching them reluctantly turn around and begin to head to their car. Jordan waved goodbye, a sad smile on her lips. I knew she was going to miss them, despite having spent the night at their place and just seeing them now.
“Of all the pompous, arrogant, rude” vented Aunt Claudia, turning and unleashing on me.
“Yes, you are, rather” Jordan mused out loud “Maybe you could try keeping it down” she advised my aunt nonchalantly. I had never been more proud of her.
My Aunt’s mouth dropped open. I smirked. “I think we should discuss this in private,” I said calmly, taking Jordan’s hand and beginning to lead the way to the pack house. My Aunt and Uncle stumbled along behind us, muttering and complaining the entire time, while Jordan and I smiled at each other. I loved that she was finally speaking up for herself. I shut the front door behind them and then gestured for them to come into the living room. I told the omegas in a mind-link to firmly stay away as I didn’t want them staying any longer than necessary.
I sat down on the couch, Jordan next to me, my aunt and Uncle sitting on the one opposite, their faces like thunderclouds. “Now” I snapped, my temper getting the better of me “Perhaps you would like to explain what in the hell you are doing here and why you thought it wise to interrupt the Luna ceremony like that?”
My aunt drew herself up. I arched a brow at her. Once upon a time, when I’d been a young boy, I might have been intimidated by that move, but no longer. She looked taken aback for a moment but soon rallied. She pursed her lips. “We heard you were holding a Luna ceremony and we had to come and find out for ourselves” she snapped “And we got here to find you marrying this, this w***e” she said with disgust, waving her hand at Jordan who stiffened and shot her a look of daggers.
“Be very careful how you speak about my mate” I warned her in a dangerous tone.
“Look at her” My uncle spoke, his voice harsh and strained “She is hardly befitting of the title of Luna. Are you not embarrassed to be seen with the likes of this woman? Do you not feel humiliated, to have someone such as her be your mate, let alone the leader of the pack? Where is your pride son? Have you just flung it all away, simply because she claims to be carrying your child? You know that you could have worked around this, made her your mistress, and found a worthy woman to be your Luna. Instead, you did this” he said with disdain “and made her the official Luna of your pack.”
His words were grating on my nerves. If they had come, simply to insult my mate and Luna, they could get the hell out of here.
“Blaze loves me,” Jordan said quietly, from her seated position “and I love him with all my heart. There is no shame in that, and you can throw whatever insults you want at me, but you will not make me feel ashamed about how I look or who I am. The only ones who should be ashamed should be yourselves” she said staring at my aunt and Uncle.
“Shut up you tart” Aunt Claudia barked “You sit there, acting all innocent and sweet but we know the truth. We know how you treated poor Stefanie. How you pushed her out of the home she’s lived in her entire home. How you separated brother and sister. You manipulated Blaze so that he would hate his sister! What kind of person does that?” she demanded heatedly, her eyes blazing with anger.
I looked at her confused. What the f**k was she talking about? “Where are you getting all this information?” I asked slowly.
My uncle huffed. “Who cares” he drawled “Do you know how it felt to find out that you, someone who claims to be a kind and caring man, banished his own sister and made her a rogue? Your parents would be rolling in their graves right about now” he barked, “they only ever wanted what was best for the two of you. They never dreamed you would turn on each other, but I guess that hussy there got what she wanted.”
“Your own family” Aunt Claudia accused “You should be ashamed of yourself Blaze. You were brought up better than that” she snarled.
“I never manipulated Blaze,” Jordan said quietly “and it hurts me that he had to do what he felt was right, severing the bond between brother and sister in the process.”
My aunt sniffed disbelievingly. “Oh you can lie all you want,” she said icily “but I assure you I’m not falling for your little act missy.”
“Stefanie plotted with another Alpha to get Jordan kidnapped and almost got her killed in the process,” I said heavily “At the very least our child that she was carrying would have been aborted against her will.”
“Is that what she told you?” Aunt Claudia said, pointing at Jordan “And you just believed every word that came out of that pretty, lying, manipulative little mouth, didn’t you” She scoffed in disbelief.
“I believe my mate because she doesn’t lie and because Stefanie admitted it,” I said, slamming my hand on the coffee table in frustration and causing it to splinter. “I won’t hear you malign my mate anymore” I threatened, my eyes darkening as Lucifer came briefly to the fore. He was just about to take control and I was debating whether to let him, aware he might actually kill my family and pondering if that was such a bad thing right now.
“I never wanted to cause a rift in Blaze’s family” Jordan continued to protest, determined to clear her name “I wanted all of us to get along. I tried, multiple times to get along with Stefanie, but she always refused to accept the olive branch I extended to her.”
Her tone was convincing, slightly pleading as she tried to get my aunt and Uncle to believe her. They shot a glance at each other, both of them looking a bit mutinous, their eyes full of confusion.
My aunt bit her lip and looked a little disconcerted. “We heard you were a horrible person and that you yelled at the omegas and bullied them. That you got violent with Blaze and pushed him around. That you were manipulative and conniving” My aunt admitted looking a little guilty now. She seemed to have run out of steam. Or maybe she was realizing she’d been lied to and manipulated herself.
Perhaps they weren’t so bad after all. Still, I eyed them suspiciously. “Where did you get all this false information from?” I demanded shrewdly. There was only one person who could have given it to them.
They looked distinctly uncomfortable now. They shifted in their chairs, anxious looks on their faces.
“You have to understand” my aunt began looking flushed in the face “we had no reason not to believe what we were hearing. I mean, it sounded perfectly plausible…” she trailed off, looking chagrined and apologetic.
“Where did you hear all of this” I said between gritted teeth, fighting back the urge to grab her by the neck and wring the truth out of her.
My aunt flinched. My Uncle cleared his throat, looking ashamed. “From Stefanie herself. She’s been living with us ever since you made her a rogue” he admitted and then looked even more anxious “But there’s a bit of a problem. She hasn’t quite been herself” he said cryptically and looked right at Jordan “and I fear now that your mate and Luna might be in more danger than ever before” he admitted shame faced.
