Jaxon POV
I pulled Alex tight against me, my arm wrapped around his waist as the social worker brought Miranda over to us, the little darling kicking and flailing her legs around, her big blue eyes filled with curiosity as I stared down at her, my throat seizing as tears pricked the corners of my eyes. She had soft fuzzy red hair on top of her little head, and she had a pale complexion, but she was adorable. Miniscule. Only a few weeks old and an orphan, her parents were killed in a murder that was still being investigated. She was a shifter though; we could sense it as could the social worker who had immediately contacted us when she realized.
“She’s so cute” breathed Alex as Jenni, the social worker, held her up so we could look at her closely.
I let my arm drop as Alex gingerly reached out and took hold of our new daughter, rocking her gently in his arms. It was a beautiful sight. My big strong, handsome mate, holding such a small bub in his large hands. Jenni beamed.
“She seems to like you” she breathed as the little girl let out a small cooing noise.
Alex grinned, looking chuffed, stroking Miranda’s hair. “She’s so small” he murmured protectively, his expression one of doting.
Jenni laughed. “She won’t be for long; you’ll find that time flies” she warned, “soon she’ll be crawling and then walking before you know it.”
Alex quietly passed me, Miranda, to hold. I held her, cradling her against my chest, inhaling that scent that all babies seemed to possess. I kissed her forehead and her finger curled around my hair, gently tugging on it as I laughed. Alex smirked.
“Well for the first few months, I’ll be coming around to do routine checks but I have no doubts in my mind that you are going to make wonderful fathers for Miranda,” Jenni said excitedly, bending down to grab her briefcase and checking her watch anxiously.
“Do you have any questions?” she asked, looking a bit harried and biting her lip.
“The adoption is final, isn’t it?” I asked, wanting to confirm, needing to know that it was a surety.
“Yes,” she said firmly “it’s normal for us to do checks of the home for a little while after. Miranda is officially your daughter.

Alex and I glanced at each other. He gave a subtle shake of his head. I guess he didn’t have any questions. If anything, he looked eager to be holding Miranda again. I sighed.
“No questions,” I told Jenni with a tight smile.
“Well if you need anything or help of some kind, you have my number,” she said over her shoulder as she made her way out of the pack house, winking at the two of us “Congratulations you two, and I sincerely hope you all enjoy your family time together.”
The door closed softly behind her. Alex grabbed Miranda from me. He wrinkled his nose. “She needs a diaper change” he murmured thoughtfully.
Served him right for taking her I thought with a small degree of satisfaction.
“I’ll go change her” Alex muttered, heading upstairs for the nursery.
“I’ll make her a bottle, Jenni did say it’s been a few hours” I called, as Miranda began to fuss a little “That way she has one ready when you come back down.”
“Thanks, good thinking” he called back over his shoulder.
I headed into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle, filling it with cooled boiled water and adding the required number of scoops of formula. I placed the teat back on and shook it, mixing the powder and water together. Then I placed it in the bottle warmer and waited. Soon enough it was ready, and I tested it on my wrist, before coming into the living room. I sat down and Alex came back, clutching a clean and crying Miranda. He had a bib in one hand which he put around her neck. I handed him the bottle. He placed it to her lips, and she greedily began to suckle at it. I breathed a sigh of relief. She was hungry then. I hadn’t gotten it wrong.
The door to the pack burst open and my mother came rushing in like a hurricane or small tornado. “Where is she” she breathed, my father right behind her, holding my little sister Selena who was now almost a year old, her gaze going right to Miranda. My mother’s eyes widened, and she let out a small ooh. “My grandbaby” she cried excitedly. My father shot us an apologetic glance. ‘Sorry,’ he mouthed. I should have known Mother wouldn’t be able to help herself, I thought amused.
I was a little surprised she had waited for the social worker to leave, to be honest.
“She’s so pretty” my mother gushed, moving closer and somehow maneuvering herself so that she sat between Alex and me, stroking Miranda’s slightly chubby cheeks.
“She’s a darling,” my father said comfortably seating himself on the couch, holding a wriggling Selena who was looking at Miranda intently and with curiosity.
Alex burped Miranda, who let out a long, loud one, making everybody laugh out loud.
“Would you like to hold her?” Alex asked, already knowing the answer.
My mother clapped her hands and eagerly took the baby. She cuddled her, beaming wide. “Oh, isn’t she precious” she cooed “I could just eat her up.”
“You do realize we just got her mother. What happened to giving us a day to bond with her?” I asked with a sigh.
She blinked at me, trying to look all innocent. “I just couldn’t wait that long,” she said pleading with me “I was too excited. Don’t be mad” she moaned dramatically.
I just rolled my eyes in resignation. My father put Selena down, she began to crawl across the living room, everybody watching her indulgently. I gave Alex a sidelong glance. He shrugged. He was well and truly used to my mother by now. He just smiled and shrugged looking carefree. I huffed.
My father leaned back against the couch. “You’re doing a fantastic job with the pack son,” he said softly “Both of you are. I’m proud of you both. I’m enjoying the fact that I can spend more time with your mother and with your little sister and my daughter”
“You don’t care that I’ve made some changes?” I checked.
He shook his head “It’s your pack now, not mine. Plus, they are all for the better” he added complimenting us both.
I grinned. Since mother and father had moved out, Alex and I had taken our relationship to the next level and formed a great team by leading the pack and establishing our own way of doing things. We spent the next few hours exchanging pleasantries, bonding with Miranda, and spending time with Selena who looked like a miniature angelic version of my mother. We waved goodbye to them from the pack house door, Alex holding a sleeping Miranda in his arms. We were both exhausted by that stage. “Let’s put her in her bassinet,” I said softly, careful to shut the door so that she wouldn’t be disturbed.
We successfully put her down without waking her and made it to the bedroom, which was right next to it, leaving the adjoining door open. My eyes glinted as I patted the bed, beginning to undo the buttons on my shirt.
“Jaxon, I don’t know” Alex began uncertainly, and I winked at him.
“She’s asleep,” I told him “And I have no intentions of letting our s*x life fizzle out. If she wakes up we’ll stop” I added, getting my clothes off. He peeled his off and came to the bed, a smile spreading on his face.
I grabbed him and pinned him underneath me. I gave him a long loving kiss that had him panting as he became aroused. “Have I ever told you how much I love you” I whispered into his ear.
“Hmmm, but I don’t mind hearing it again” he murmured, touching me back.
“How about I show you” I breathed.
I spent the night doing just that. With every word, touch, kiss, and breath, I showed him all the love and affection I had for him. “I will love you to the end of time” I swore and it was true. I wanted nobody but him by my side.
Alex and I adopted two more children, both boys, Samuel and Jack. Samuel took over the pack while Miranda found her mate and moved packs. Jack became Beta of the pack and was lucky enough to find his second chance mate. Alex and I stayed in love, living to a ripe old age, our children having children of their own. My little sister, Selena, grew up to be a doctor and moved packs, finally finding a mate of her own and establishing her own little family. I never lost touch with Jordan and Blaze, and we continuously visited each other, our children forming bonds with theirs. The moon goddess had granted me a miracle when she gave me Alex and I never once took that for granted. He made my life complete, him and my children and I couldn’t have asked for a better life than the one I was given.
