Alpha Drake POV
Alpha Blaze pinned his eyes on me as I shifted awkwardly on the chair. “So Alpha Drake,” he said tightly, his expression murderous “perhaps you would like to tell me what your intentions are regarding my daughter, seeing as I’m now aware that she’s your mate?”
I swallowed hard. His wife, Luna Jordan, was behind him, her expression equally as thunderous. I knew that whatever words I chose, they had better be careful and deliberate. I had already offended them by not declaring Josie as my mate upon discovery. Now, they were demanding answers. Not just as Alpha and Luna but as her parents as well.
“With all due respect Alpha Blaze,” I began and he interrupted, his eyes flashing.
“Cut the crap” he snarled “My daughter was almost raped and I’m in no mood for you to be dodging questions. Josie is more deserving than somebody that doesn’t want her, but I’m telling you now, that if you plan on rejecting her, it better be for a damn good reason and not just because she doesn’t have a wolf.”
Her mother stared at me and I flinched. I wasn’t sure which one was more intense, the Alpha or the Luna who looked as though she wanted to rip me into shreds.
“It’s not as simple as you believe it to be,” I said heavily “I already have a fiancee at home” I admitted.
Alpha Blaze looked pissed. “So instead of waiting for your mate, you were intending on taking a chosen one” he deduced. “Yes. I had thought by now, that I would not be finding her and wanted to establish a Luna for Black Moon Pack.”
He glanced at his wife. Luna Jordan however, was not looking at me as though she had any sympathy. “All shifters know that they will eventually find their mates. I ask you, Alpha Drake” she said icily “what is your decision now? Do you intend on rejecting my daughter for someone who is not your fated mate?”
Damnit. They weren’t going to let this go. Silence. Deadly silence. The Alpha stared at me, his eyes like dark obsidian, indicating that his wolf was close to the surface. Great. I exhaled slowly.
“I don’t know,” I said finally, knowing that the answer would not go over well “My wolf wants Josie but I also made a commitment to Claudia and I don’t like breaking my promises.”
Luna Jordan wasn’t buying it. “In other words, Josie doesn’t have a wolf and you don’t find her worthy of the title of Luna,” she said shrewdly.
I blanched. Alpha Blaze let out a growl that almost shattered the windows. “You bastard” he roared “My wife didn’t have her wolf initially when I met her and I loved her anyway. Are you that shallow of a man that you would base your opinion of my daughter, based solely on that?”
“I’m saying that I need time to inform my fiancee about Josie” I shot back, my own wolf angered now “not that I’m rejecting her.”
Alpha Blaze relaxed, leaning back against his chair. Damnit, I felt as though I’d been manipulated.
“I’m putting a stipulation on the treaty,” he said, his words causing me to stiffen.
What kind of stipulation was he going to put? Dread rose inside of me. This wasn’t going to bode well for me. I knew he was still pissed at me. Either that or he didn’t trust me.
“What stipulation would that be Alpha Blaze?”
“You will sign the contract with me, however, if you reject her it automatically voids it.”
I gaped at him. Luna Jordan turned to her husband, looking anxious. “Blaze, I think that’s taking it a bit too far,” she said quietly “Honey, let’s discuss this,” she said worriedly.
He shook his head at her. “Sweetheart, trust me, I know what I’m doing. This is the only way I will sign the contract now.” “What if she chooses to reject me?” I asked angrily.
He looked at me “then the contract will remain, but it must be her choice.”
I clenched my hands into fists. I felt like I’d been backed into a corner and it was pissing me off. Alpha Blaze waited, raising an eyebrow. I felt like I had no choice. He had one of the strongest packs in the country now and I needed the treaty in order to strengthen my own pack. I would be foolish to walk away now. I gritted my teeth. “Fine. I accept your terms” I shot out.
He grinned. I wanted to wipe the smirk off his face. Infuriating man. I didn’t care that he was trying to look out for his daughter.
“I intend on leaving tomorrow morning,” I said “Josie will need to be prepared to leave at the same time.”
Her mother gasped, looking dismayed. Alpha Blaze held up a hand, preventing her from objecting. “That can be arranged. Now let’s get this contract signed, with my wife as a witness and your Beta, so that you can get yourself prepared for the journey ahead. After all, you have a fiancee to break the news too” he said without sympathy.
I glared at him. He blinked at me. I sighed in resignation. I mind-linked my Beta to come to the study. Alpha Blaze had played his hand and won this time, but he had no idea what was in store for Josie. He hadn’t been careful with his words and I intended to use them against her. I might not be able to reject her, I thought with a little smirk, but I could make her life a living hell until she rejected me.”
