Gamma Rohan POV
She’s beautiful. Stunning. The girl, Josie. As soon as I saw her, I felt like I had been bawled over. Her body was luscious, enough to make me drool. Her hips were curvaceous, her breasts pert and round, her smile bright enough to dazzle. My hands longed to touch the soft silken strands of her hair. The instant I touched her, sparks had flown and I had felt tingles down my spine. My mouth had gone dry. It couldn’t be. I didn’t understand. I had already been informed that she was none other than Alpha Drake’s mate. So why was I feeling what was clearly the mate’s bond with her? It didn’t make sense. Yet, my wolf was going crazy, in love with her, her scent so aromatic and delicate, that it was all I could do to prevent myself from lunging at her and marking her then and there. Not when she belonged to the Alpha. But it was hard. Harder than anything I’ve ever had to do.
Why was the Alpha acting so cold and so cruel to her? She was a kind-hearted girl. He had insulted her by putting her on the second floor and the only thing I had been able to do to alleviate that was put her in the nicest bedroom it had. The way she thanked me had me grinning as I left. Then dinner had been a fiasco and Josie had run. I mind-linked Alpha Drake.
Josie ran into the forest Alpha Drake! I’m going in search of her, but she could get hurt or injured.
If that happens it’s her own fault he snapped back and I almost fell over in shock the stupid girl should know better. But she’s your mate Alpha, do you not want to help look for her?
I gritted my teeth, already beginning to limp towards the grounds. The alpha snorted. I have no desire to look for that little b***h. I hope she gets eaten by rogues he snarled you feel free to look for her if you want, but I don’t care if she lives or dies!
He cut the mind-link off while I was still reeling from what he said. I couldn’t believe it. He didn’t even want to check on his mate! I felt disgusted in my own Alpha as I began to take my clothes off, shifting into my wolf form.
Only in wolf form was I whole for some inexplicable reason, with no limp or injury. My large silver and white wolf began to trot towards the forest, its nose high in the air, seeking out Josie’s scent. The way she had been spoken to had been cruel and I didn’t blame her for wanting to run. The Alpha had been so unkind, so callous, I shook my head and continued to run, my ears pricked. I had patrol also keeping an eye out, but I didn’t want to frighten her. I was well aware of her wolfless state and I didn’t care. It mattered not to me. But apparently it mattered a great deal to Alpha Drake who despised weak wolves and Josie by definition was just that to him.
I paused and sniffed before letting out a low growl of frustration. Blood. I could smell the metallic scent of it. It was Josies. A minuscule amount that could be due to a scratch or scrape but it filled me with anger. She should never have felt the need to come out here and hide in the first place. I moved forward, cautiously. It was easy to spot the broken twigs and leaves that she’d left behind in her wake. She hadn’t even attempted to hide her tracks. Perhaps she didn’t know how? It made my job easier. I went deeper into the forest, my paws thudding loudly on the ground. I wished I could mind-link her and ask her to come back. Instead I surged forward, before pausing. The undeniable smell of rotten eggs and meat filled my nostrils and had me stiffening in fear.
Rogues. They all had the same revolting, pungent smell. How had one gotten so close to our border? I let out a warning howl, in case more were approaching and dashed forward, intent on finding Josie, before the rogue did. Without her wolf she was vulnerable and no doubt the rouge would sense it, attacking her without mercy. f**k. I ran, the trees passing by in a blur. For a moment I admired how far she had managed to get in human form before I got ahold of myself. She was up ahead, I could smell her. I propelled forward, jumping and landing neatly in front of her as she stared wide eyed. Good, she hadn’t screamed, I thought, scanning the forest. We could still get out of here and…
Red eyes glowed from the shadows as a rogue came walking out from behind the trees, causing Josie to scream in fear. I stood in front of her, snarling. Two more rogues came out of the woodwork. So there had been more than one. s**t. I backed up slightly. They weren’t getting their filthy claws on Josie. I growled and one made the mistake of leaping towards me. I dodged to the side and sliced it’s throat in one quick move, killing it while the other two hesitated. Now there was only two to contend with. I could hear Josie gasping and could hear her heartbeat racing. I couldn’t afford to turn and comfort her. My eyes remained fixed solely on the rogues. I did hear her whisper though and it shocked me to the core. “Rohan.”
She knew it was my wolf. Knew it was me. Was it instinct or something else entirely? Did she feel the mate bond between us too despite also having it with Alpha Drake? So many questions lingered on my tongue, words that would remain unspoken.
The two rogues began to run towards me simultaneously and I braced myself, my fear not for myself but for Josie if I let one of them get past me. I narrowed my eyes and raced towards them head on, desperate to keep my mate safe and unharmed, while cursing Alpha Drake and his disinterest in his mate at the same time. If I could keep these rogues back, or kill them first, we stood a chance. Then several wolves came flying out of the woods, and began to help, the fight quickly becoming a bloodbath in front of Josie. Patrol had arrived. But where was Alpha Drake and why wasn’t he defending his land or worse, his mate, who could have died?
