                    Josie POV
Rohan looked ready to tear Sandra’s head off, his growls ferocious and his lips curled back in a snarl as he pinned her to the ground while she flailed and wriggled beneath him, her eyes panicked and wild. I felt no desire to continue to fight, shifting back to my human form, while Sandra looked to me for help.
“Josie” she screamed, as Rohan’s wolf turned its head to regard me “please, have mercy” she begged.
“Like you had for Renae,” I said coldly “or Rohan? You deserve to die Sandra” I said stiffly, shaking my head.
I could not bring myself to intercede. I had no mercy left inside of me. Not anymore. She had well and truly diminished it. “Rohan” she shrieked as his wolf turned back to her, its eyes gleaming with maliciousness “Rohan please, we’re family” she tried, pushing futilely at him.
He snarled in response and I winced, turning my head away as he bit into her neck, making her let out a blood-curdling scream, her body flailing as he tore into her, until she stopped, going quiet, blood pooling around her, the light fading from her eyes as he killed her without mercy.
I sank to the floor, my hand on my stomach. Now that Sandra was gone, my only fear was for my unborn child. I felt slightly woozy and avoided looking at Sandra’s body, Rohan’s wolf stepping back and then I heard him as he shifted, his bones cracking loudly before he turned into his human form, stepping into view.
“Josie,” he said quietly, kneeling in front of me as I looked up at him in shock “Josie, honey, are you alright?”
“She killed Renae,” I said dumbly “and her parents, she killed them all.”
He tightened his lips “I underestimated her obsession with me” he said heavily “and I’m sorry. I never anticipated she would remember the old parts of the hospital. If I hadn’t remembered myself…” he trailed off but the implication was clear.
I could have died today or rather Sandra would have died by my hand instead of his.
His hand gripped me under my arms and hoisted me to my feet. I swayed and he wrapped an arm around me. “I’m so sorry for missing the appointment” he apologized, as I looked at him accusingly “I put my desire to find Sandra ahead of what’s truly important which is you and our family. I will never make that mistake again” he vowed.
I wanted to believe him. I glanced back at Sandra and shuddered. He steered me towards the stairs and walked up first before assisting me. I glanced down at my nakedness and he narrowed his eyes, suddenly looking possessive. “Wait here, I’ll grab us some clothes” he growled.
I didn’t protest. The thought of walking through the hospital naked wasn’t appealing to me. I was still self-conscious about my body. Rohan disappeared and came back quickly with scrubs, handing them to me, clad in some scrub pants himself. I put them on hastily and he helped me out. We walked through some long winding corridors before coming into the new part of the hospital. Rohan led me to an empty hospital room. I sat on the bed, fretting. Would my baby be alright? Had the wolfsbane affected it?
The same doctor as before came sailing in, looking concerned. Rohan grabbed my hand and refused to let it go, his expression filled with concern. “She was drugged with wolfsbane, will it have hurt the baby?” he asked bluntly.
The doctor was already dragging the ultrasound machine over to me, her movements rushed. I could feel my heart beginning to race. My wolf was strangely silent when I tried to contact her. Perhaps she was sleeping the drug off? Involuntarily I squeezed Rohan’s hand. It seemed he would get to see the baby after all, I thought a bit ironically.
I pulled my scrub shirt up and my scrub pants down slightly as the doctor put gel on the probe. “Cold” she said warningly and I nodded.
I knew the drill. She placed the probe on my stomach and began to listen for a heartbeat to start off. I felt my mouth go dry and my chest tighten. For a moment there was nothing but silence as we waited to hear if the baby was still alive. The doctor’s jaw clenched and I felt tears prick the corners of my eyes and then, we heard a steady thumping noise and I almost burst into tears. The doctor gave a brilliant smile. “The baby’s heartbeat is regular, which is a very good sign, considering the drugs you were given. It appears to have not been affected, but I will of course, do another scan of it’s body, seeing as the father is now here to see it” she said pointedly, fixing her eyes on Rohan who flushed slightly. She moved the probe and we were greeted with a clear image of our baby boy, my eyes wide and filled with awe. I snuck a glance at Rohan and saw a myriad of emotions on his face. He swallowed hard and his eyes were suspiciously shiny as though he was trying to hold back tears. He spoke, his voice hoarse and filled with excitement “what gender is our baby?” he asked.
The doctor looked at me and I subtly nodded. She beamed at Rohan. “Congratulations Alpha Rohan, you and Luna Josie are having a beautiful baby boy.”
Rohan’s eyes lit up. He looked down at my stomach, a small smile curving on his lips. “A son” he murmured “we’re having a son” he whispered looking at me as I nodded tiredly at him.
The doctor removed the probe and Rohan took hold of the paper towels offered, cleaning my stomach with infinite tenderness, his eyes shining with love. His hand rested on the small swell of my stomach. “A baby boy” he murmured, looking gleeful.
The doctor calmly put the probe away and then eyed me “I would recommend that you don’t overdo it for the next few days and get plenty of rest. Drink plenty of fluids and get the proper nutrition your body needs in order to recover but there should be no lingering effects of the drug. From the looks of it your baby is fine but if you have any concerns or something happens such as bleeding, unexpected pain or you’re just worried, don’t hesitate to call or go straight to the hospital. It’s better to be safe than sorry” she said sternly, looking between the both of us.
“I’ll make sure she rests” Rohan told her hastily.
The doctor looked satisfied and calmly left the room. I pulled down my shirt and pulled my pants back up and went to get off the bed.
“What are you doing?” Rohan growled, grabbing me and holding me tightly in his arms as I blinked at him.
“I was getting up to walk” I said bemused.
“You heard the doctor, you need to rest” he said firmly.
I was fairly certain she hadn’t meant I was to be carried everywhere. I opened my mouth to protest and then shut it, looking at the grim expression on my mate’s face. He was worried. This was the only way he knew how to express it and how to make himself feel useful. I sighed and wrapped my arms around his neck, placating him.
“As soon as we get home, you’re going straight to bed and you’re not moving. Anything you need, I’ll get for you” Rohan said gruffly, walking down the hallway, the nurses all gaping at him, “and I’ll spend as much time with you as I can.”
I looked at him doubtfully “don’t you have a lot of work to do?” I asked as he stepped outside and the fresh air made me exhale in relief.
“Nothing that can’t wait until later” he said thickly “I already made the mistake of work taking priority once, I’m not going to do it again. You mean the world to me Josie and I want to show you that. I can’t imagine my life without you and our child in it. So you take priority and our baby.”
I glowed. I snuggled against his chest. He carried me effortlessly across the grounds and into the pack house, upstairs and all the way into our bedroom. He laid me gently on the bed. He pressed his lips against mine, tenderly, his hand trailing up my arm, his tongue sliding slowly inside of my mouth, caressing my tongue with his own, igniting a spark inside of me as I gave a helpless moan, my body aflame, my back arching, my head flinging backwards as he ravished my mouth, leaving me panting as he slowly pulled back, his eyes fixated on mine. I wanted more, my lips parting automatically as I looked at him in a haze of pleasure, before making a move, my hand gripping the back of his neck and pulling him back down for another kiss, as he began to plunder my mouth with a passion that I could only hope to reciprocate.
