Rohan POV
I felt guilty as I left the pack and Josie sitting there. She looked so beautiful in the sunlight, her hair lit up by the sun’s rays, her face softened by its warm glow. Her beauty never failed to make me want to hold her in my arms and kiss those sweet lips of hers. I was always in awe of my mate and that she had accepted me, flaws and all. She always thought that she was unworthy of me and it couldn’t be further from the truth. I always worried that I was the one who didn’t deserve her, who wasn’t worthy of her love.
I turned on the freeway, slapping my hands lightly on the dashboard, and glancing down at the clock. I had plenty of time, but I wanted to make sure that everything was perfect. I had lied to Josie and I felt guilty but after today, I knew, or at least I hoped, that she would forgive me.
Soon she and her wolf will be ours forever, so long as we don’t stuff this up. Try not to make a complete mess of this, will you my wolf said cockily.
If you’re so confident, why don’t you take over and do it? I snapped back and instantly regretted it as my wolf considered doing just that.
Forget I said that I rescinded my offer instantly and my wolf chuckled darkly, his tail swishing as he looked through my eyes, his expression strangely serene while I felt my heart beating painfully in my chest as I fought to keep myself calm. You’ve faced down rogues and Josie’s father. Are you seriously going to tell me that this is infinitely scarier to you? My wolf was amused.
Yes, because there is always the chance that she could turn us down I told him silently, feeling sick at the thought of it. I couldn’t imagine my life without Josie in it. She was the reason I woke up every morning with a smile on my face and the reason I worked hard to make the pack as productive and as strong as it was. She invoked my protective instinct and gave me strength when I began to feel as though I had none. Never before, had a woman had this much of an effect on me. She made me whole, instead of making me feel like something was missing from my life.
Her wolf is just as lovely and fierce my wolf commented, a lazy smile spreading on his face she is a representation of her human and is the love of my life he said poetically.
I can’t believe that I’m going to be a father soon I thought to myself and my wolf became indignant.
We are both going to be a father he corrected me with annoyance our pup is going to be the most spoilt pup in the pack he added proudly, sitting on his haunches and looking pleased with himself.
But only if this goes the way we are hoping I told him and he looked deflated for a moment. I had taken the wind out of his sails. He looked a bit petulant as he lay down and put his head between his paws. I sighed and pulled up in front of the building, turning off the motor and stretching my arms above my head. We’d made it and in plenty of time. I was early and I got out of the car, breathing in the fresh air as I looked at the restaurant that resided on the private beach, both of which were completely empty. The restaurant was called ‘Le Charme” and was a quaint cottage with distressed timber and a gorgeous front porch that looked out on the water.
It was perfect. I could smell the sea air, and hear the crashing of the waves. The sand was a pale flaxen color, seashells littering the ground, the ocean a deep cerulean blue. I heard the sound of another car pulling up behind me and turned, placing my hands into my trouser’s pockets. The woman opened her car door and slowly slid out, her heels making her legs look longer, her dress clinging to her slender frame, the red bringing out the deep chocolate of her eyes. It was a modest dress, a maxi style that still somehow seemed to be seductive in nature and draw the eye. Her long brown hair tumbled down her back in soft curls, and she clutched a clipboard, her leg kicking the car door closed as she gave me a brilliant smile that was dazzling.
“You’re here” she trilled, moving closer, her hips sashaying back and forth, her lips curving, their color a ruby red to match her outfit.
I watched her closely, a smile curving on my lips. Lauren was graceful, her body perfectly poised, a knowing look in her eyes. I greeted her with enthusiasm, admiring her as she came close enough for me to grab and embrace, inhaling her scent which was familiar and comforting. I breathed in deeply, holding her tight, while she did the same, her hair tickling my face as I turned my head to the side and closed my eyes, relishing the moment.
“It’s been too long since I last saw you” I murmured and she nodded, stepping back and regarding me with affection.
“It has been a while” she admitted “but I’m here now and we shouldn’t waste any time.”
I grinned “I appreciate that, I want to take my time and get this right.”
“Well every girl’s dream is to be romanced and wooed by the man they love,” Lauren said lightly, grabbing my hand and turning us around “but I guarantee by the time I’m done helping you, she won’t be able to resist you Cousin and by the end of the night you and your mate, will be engaged, you have my word” she promised, and I followed her to the car, prepared to do whatever it took for this to work.
