Rohan POV
I couldn’t hold onto my anger anymore. Part of me was relieved to find that this was what had been bothering Josie for the last few days and that it wasn’t something I had done to her. If she had just asked me outright, I would have told her upfront who Lauren was. While I was angry, I was also amused. It was kind of a compliment on how jealous she had been. Told you all this sneaking around was going to result in something like this my wolf growled.
Okay so maybe I should have been a bit more upfront about what I was doing or demanded answers from her. But how was I supposed to know that she picked up a phone call from Lauren?
It’s cute that mate was so jealous of Lauren. She still loves us. We can forgive her. Especially with her being pregnant and hormonal. I can’t believe she thought we would look at anyone else.
We definitely need to work on our communication a lot more.
“Your cousin,” Josie said slowly and I nodded, Josie exhaling and looking guiltier than ever. “I’m so sorry” she whispered, “it’s just when I walked in and saw you kissing her I thought…” she trailed off, biting her lip.
“You thought the worst,” I said with a sigh “Josie I love you and our pup. I get that you are hormonal and stressed, but honey, there is nobody else in this world that I would want except for you. I’ve been planning a surprise for you” I admonished her and she flushed, her cheeks burning bright red as she ducked her head.
“Sorry,” she said meekly.
I chuckled and gripped her chin with my fingers, forcing her to look up at me, her eyes shining with embarrassment. I kissed her on the lips, tasting their sweetness, expressing my love for her without words, my hand pushing her hair behind her shoulder, fingers stroking the nape of her neck. I pulled away and took a gentle hold of her hand as she relaxed.
“Come and meet my cousin,” I told her quietly and she bit her lip, looking a bit uncertain.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea? I just accused her of sleeping with you” she mumbled.
I grinned “I don’t think she’ll hold it against you. She’s been dying to meet you” I added and Josie brightened slightly. We made our way slowly back into the restaurant, Lauren waiting patiently at the table, seated and looking anxiously towards the entrance.
As soon as she saw us, she jumped up. “Oh I hope you both managed to sort it out,” she said nervously “Believe me, I swear I’m only his cousin,” she told Josie whose cheeks burned brighter as I stifled my laughter.
My mate was already embarrassed enough. Lauren held out her hand and Josie shook it, looking at her apologetically. “I’m Josie,” she said quietly “and I apologize for my outburst earlier. I made the wrong assumption and I’m sorry. It seems I’ve been a bit of a psycho lately” she added and Lauren giggled, flipping her hair over her shoulder and grinning.
“I’m sure you’ve got a good reason for it,” she said kindly, making Josie feel better “and if it helps I felt the same way when I was pregnant. It’s all the hormones, it makes us insane” she gushed.
Josie laughed. I had never been more glad to hear the beautiful sound come from my mate in my life. I coughed and then cleared my throat. Lauren grinned at us both. “Well,” she said delicately “I really must be off, but I wish you both luck and I’m sure I’ll be seeing you again Josie,” she said kindly.
I gave my cousin a big hug and kissed her on the cheek. “Thanks for everything Lauren” I murmured and she grinned.
“I want to hear everything” she whispered and I chuckled.
“Oh,” Josie said suddenly, making us all turn and look at her “I’ve left the driver out there waiting. I should go and tell him to leave,” she said quickly.
Lauren shook her head at her. “I can tell him, seeing as I’m going,” she said smiling.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course, it’s no problem” Lauren assured her, grabbing her purse and jacket “Lovely meeting you Josie. See you both later,” she said and headed for the exit as Josie and I smiled and waved at her.
She left Josie and I staring at each other.
“Well” I drawled “you’re here early, I was going to come and fetch you,” I said unable to resist teasing her “but seeing as you are here, how about we make our way outside and you can see for yourself what I was up to?”
“I would love to,” Josie said quietly.
I moved to stand behind her and put my hand over her eyes as she wriggled. “Eyes closed” I breathed into her ear “no ruining the surprise.”
My mate smiled and obeyed. I guided her onto the porch or deck, whatever one wanted to call it, and then pulled my hand away. I wanted her to be blown away. Lauren and I had worked hard to make it look gorgeous out here. Josie waited patiently. I moved out of the way. “Okay, you can open them,” I told her lowly.
My mate opened her eyes and a myriad of expressions covered her face. Surprise, shock, awe. Tears trailed down her face as she took in the table with its beautiful decorations, the carefully lit tealights, and the garlands of ivy wound around the railings. She was speechless. Her hands were shaking. Her lower lip was quivering. I reached out and pulled her so that the back of her body was pressed against the front of mine.
“Do you like it?” I murmured.
“Like it?” her voice was choked as she sniffled “Rohan I love it. I can’t believe you’ve gone to so much trouble and I almost ruined it. It’s like a fairytale out here.”
“Well we can sit, dinner should be ready soon,” I said and took the palm of her right hand to my lips and kissed it, helping her to her seat and pulling it out for her. She sat and then I sat opposite her, her face glowing as she looked towards the ocean.
“It’s so beautiful,” she said delightedly.
I thought she was the most gorgeous thing I had ever seen, leaning back in my chair and studying her, the swell of her stomach making her even more desirable to me and my wolf.
