Josie POV
“I don’t understand” I blurted out, glancing at Rohan who appeared to be absolutely floored “Why was it not picked up the first time?”
She blushed. “It appears his brother was hiding right behind him and as a result, only one heartbeat was heard. I did not think to look for a second baby” she explained looking shamefaced.
Two babies. Twins. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Rohan looked as though he was about to fall over. The doctor looked anxious as she pressed the probe, showing us two babies. “See” she pointed.
We looked. I inhaled in amazement. Rohan gaped. “Twins,” I said faintly.
Suddenly it struck me is this why we can’t shift right now Amber? I growled, feeling annoyed towards my wolf who was extremely smug right now.
She swished her tail, of course, having two children increases the risk of losing them if we shift, especially since one seems to be slightly weaker than the other. “Two boys” my mate muttered, while the doctor nodded with enthusiasm “Two sons.”
His voice was filled with awe. His eyes were filling with excitement. “Josie we’re having twin boys. Two pups to love” he said, and I couldn’t help but let out a small laugh at his enthusiasm. He was quickly adjusting to our new situation, while my hand crept down to my stomach, rubbing it, the doctor pulling the probe away and beginning to wipe it, handing paper towels to Rohan who gently began to wipe the gel away from my tummy.
“Two babies to nurse and to put to sleep and to feed and to change and to…” I said, feeling frazzled already.
“We’ll manage and I’ll be there to help. I plan to be as hands-on as possible” Rohan murmured, giving me a hug as I sat there feeling a little worried “And your mother wants to help too, remember” he reminded me.
I brightened. My mother was looking forward to being a grandmother. She was going to be so excited when I told her the news that she was going to have not one, but two grandsons to dote on. She was going to love it. I sighed. Wrapped my arms around Rohan and nuzzled against him.
“I am so sorry for the mix up” the doctor apologized again.
I pulled back and smiled at her. “It’s okay, mistakes happen. You did say that it happens on occasion” I told her “And this is good news” I added.
Rohan relaxed. I pulled my shirt back down and my pants back up, hopping off the bed and letting Rohan assist me toward the doorway. The doctor waved goodbye as we exited the building.
“I can’t wait until they are born” Rohan enthused, his face glowing “There is so much I want to be able to teach them. God, I can’t believe it” he repeated “Who would have thought. Identical too” he added chuckling “we’re going to have our hands full, that’s for sure.”
I put my hand on my stomach “What if I’m not a good mother Rohan?” I asked suddenly, stopping him in his tracks “You saw what happened when I started thinking irrationally, how I accused you of cheating. What happens if I get insecure again when the babies are born, what if we can’t stop fighting or…”
His eyes narrowed and he pulled me towards him, his hand gripping my chin and raising it so that I was forced to look up at him. His voice was firm but had an undercurrent of gentleness to it. “Josie, I know that you’re going to make a remarkable mother. You are so kind and loving, you’re fierce and protective. You’re not going to be alone through this. I will be right by your side through it all. I’m not going to make you shoulder the bulk of the work by yourself. I’m their father, I want to help raise our children. I want to be involved in their lives. Josie, I will say something if you start to go off the deep end but honey, it’s normal to have these doubts and worries. Every new mother or mother-to-be does. I bet if you speak to your mother, she will tell you she felt the same way.”
He was probably right. He parted my lips with his thumb, his eyes darkening slightly, and then bent his head down and kissed me, his hand going to the back of my neck and gripping it, his tongue slowly forcing its way inside my mouth and tasting me as I panted in his grasp, my body beginning to respond with ardor, my hands gripping at his shoulders. I pressed against him, feeling like I was floating, my body comforted by the strong grip he had as he placed his other arm around my waist. My body was thrilled to the touch. He deepened the kiss, and then pulled back, leaving me gasping for air. He smirked, his hand dropping from my neck to my ass, squeezing one of my butt cheeks with firmness as I let out a small cry of surprise.
“Now let’s go home and find a way to celebrate the good news we just received,” he said meaningfully, staring deep into my eyes.
I instinctively knew exactly what he was proposing and with my body already beginning to grow wet between my legs, I allowed him to scoop me up in his powerful arms, cradling me to his chest as he strode with purpose towards the pack house, butterflies fluttering around in my stomach.
