                    Grant POV
I stared at the back of my mate as she left with Jaxon, feeling miserable. She was the most beautiful, most kind girl in the world and she’d rejected me right to my face. She’d smelled like strawberries and cream and it had been like an aphrodisiac as I’d stepped out of the school doors, the smell drawing me close as my wolf had gone insane in my mind. I’d barely even registered Sarah’s presence as I stared at Jordan, almost as though I was seeing her for the first time. Her long luscious hair cascaded down her back, her dark brown eyes sparkled, her pale creamy complexion and those breasts were perfect round orbs begging to be touched, not to mention her gorgeous curves, making her look even more beautiful. She was perfection. It had taken all my self-control not to attack Jaxon as he’d held her. Hades had been devastated when she’d rejected us, and angry at me. I’d been hurt and my heart had felt like it had been torn in two.
I tried to tell you to stop being a jerk to her, but you wouldn’t listen to me! Now look at what it’s cost us! She rejected us you asshole!
I’ll make this right Hades. I’ll make this up to her, I’ll do whatever it takes to earn her forgiveness I told him desperately.
I think it’s too late for that. You’ve spent years harassing Jordan, not to mention sleeping with her w***e of a sister. I don’t blame her for rejecting us. If I’d been in her shoes, I would have done the same thing!
I don’t need this from you right now! In case you haven’t noticed, I’m in a s**t load of pain right now I growled.
So am I! Until you accept the rejection, we’re both going to be hurting. You might as well get it over and done with because there’s no way Jordan’s ever going to forgive you for everything you’ve done to her.
I refuse to believe that and I’m not about to give up so easily.
Whatever. You still have to deal with this slut who looks pissed. I’m putting a block up so I don’t have to listen to you both argue. Adios.
My wolf cut off the mind link just as I felt Sarah shoving me hard, in the chest.
“What the hell Sarah” I snapped, as she blinked at me, tears trailing down her cheeks “What the hell did you do that for?” “Are you out of your mind?” she shrieked hysterically, as I winced from the shrillness of her voice, which was piercing to my ears “How could you do this to me? I am your mate, remember, not that fat ass pig” she snarled.
“Do not call her that” I hissed, rounding on her “Never call her that again” I growled.
“Hello,” she said sarcastically “did you miss the part where she rejected you Grant? Because I was standing right here when she said it!” she exclaimed loudly.
I had never been so grateful to see that everybody had left the school grounds than right then. I narrowed my eyes at her. ” She might have rejected me, but I didn’t accept the rejection. She can still retract it” I said heavily.
“She’s not going to Grant. You’ve been sleeping with me, remember? Do you really think she wants a mate who’s slept with her sister? Besides you promised to make me your chosen mate” she whined, stamping her foot as I looked at her incredulously.
“Sarah, I told you if I didn’t find my mate, I would make you my chosen mate” I reminded her “But now I’ve found my mate and I want her” I explained quietly.
“You’ve got to be kidding,” she said, throwing her hands up in frustration “Have you looked at her properly? She’s not Luna material, she doesn’t even have her wolf” she yelled.
Oh boy. Sarah was being overly dramatic. Jordan not having her wolf was a concern though, I had to admit, but it wasn’t necessarily a deal breaker. “Just because she doesn’t have a wolf, doesn’t mean I won’t be her mate. It just means that I have to protect her more” I said gruffly, liking the sound of that.
“Protect her, well we already know she can’t fight to save her life” Sarah scoffed, pacing back and forth, throwing me dirty looks “Not to mention everybody makes fun of her for being so chubby. You’re going to be a laughingstock if you accept her as your mate Grant” she warned me.
“You’re just jealous” I growled “because you’re not my mate. You’ve always hated Jordan Sarah, haven’t you?” I asked and it immediately set her off.
“She killed our mother” Sarah screamed, spittle flying everywhere as I cringed from the sheer rage in her voice “Of course I hate her. If it wasn’t for her, our mother would still be alive.”
I regarded her sympathetically. She was unhinged. She really believed it was all Jordan’s fault. Denying it would only make her angrier. I cleared my throat. “Sarah, look,” I said gently “I’ll still take you to the ball if you want, I promised after all, but just as friends” I compromised “I happen to know Jaxon’s taking Jordan after all” I added a bit glumly.
Sarah looked at me dejected. “But you’re not going to make me your Luna though, are you?” she sniffled “You’re going to try and talk her into accepting you instead, aren’t you?”
I hesitated but I couldn’t give her false hope when there wasn’t any to be had. I shrugged. “When you feel the mate bond, you’ll understand just how strong it is,” I said apologetically as she looked at me with tears in her eyes “It’s not something that can just be shrugged off or ignored. It’s all-powerful and the amount of love you feel towards your mate is indescribable” I told her, feeling awful as her face went grief-stricken.
“But Grant, I really love you” she choked out, flinging herself into my arms and crying on my shoulder as I tried not to flinch “I’ve loved you ever since we were little kids. I thought you felt the same way. I would never abandon you like you’re trying to do to me. Can’t you see that I’m the best thing that’s ever happened to you? Please, please, don’t do this to me” she begged, her voice rising with every breath, her chest rising up and down rapidly, her arms tightening around my neck “I need you” she breathed, whispering into my ear.
I gently dislodged her arms. “Sarah, you’ll find someone else, or your mate one day and you’ll look back on this and be grateful we didn’t go through with it,” I said softly.
She bit her lip and looked away, anger on her face. I sighed. “How about I give you a lift home” I suggested, “I brought you to school remember, so I know you don’t have a car.”
Besides, I was hoping to catch a glimpse of my mate at the very least as I dropped Sarah off at home. Something she evidently realized as she nodded, flipping her hair over her shoulder in annoyance, sobbing as she threw herself into the passenger seat while I got into the driver’s side and started the engine.
“There’s nothing I can do to change your mind, is there?” she asked lowly, glancing out the window, wiping her eyes with the backs of her hand.
“No,” I said decisively “there’s not,” I told her.
She glowered out the window, falling silent as the scenery passed by, a miserable expression on her face. God, I felt like a right bastard. My mate hated me, and now my ex-girlfriend was pissed at me and today had been nothing like I was expecting.
“Are you going to tell your parents about your mate?” she whispered.
“No, I want to try and convince Jordan to accept me first,” I said shaking my head. Besides, if my parents ever found out how I’d treated Jordan in the first place, I knew how disappointed they would be in me and I couldn’t face that, not right now anyway. I was already angry at myself. I’d hurt my mate and it was unforgivable.
For a moment, I could have sworn I saw Sarah’s eyes light up, but when I glanced at her again, they were bleak and dull looking again. It must have been my imagination I mused. I parked at the front of her house and eagerly looked around me, but there was no sign of Jordan, just the merest trace of her scent coming from the house itself. Damn, I would never grow tired of that smell, I thought to myself with a groan.
I was tempted to go inside, but I knew Jordan needed some time to come to terms with what happened today. I had to wrestle with myself to prevent myself from storming inside and trying to force her to accept me. That would not go down well and would make things ten times worse. Sarah looked straight ahead; her body slumped in defeat. Maybe she was finally accepting everything.
“Sarah, I um” I began, trailing off, not sure what else I could say or offer her to make her see how sorry I was that this had happened.
I knew I shouldn’t have suggested her being my chosen mate, but in all fairness, I didn’t think I would find my mate. Damn Hades for keeping his mouth shut and this secret for himself, I fumed. He could have prevented this very thing from happening.
“Save it” she interrupted scornfully, her eyes flashing with anger “Nothing you say is going to make me feel any better. You’re literally choosing her, over me” her voice broke “and I don’t understand why. I’m so much prettier than her” she whispered, tears trailing down her cheeks.
“Jordan is beautiful too” I snarled, and she just let out a strangled sound, grabbed her backpack, and angrily opened the car door.
“The least you can do is still take me to the goddamn ball” she choked out, “I got a dress specially for it and everything.” “I already said I would. I will still pick you up in the limo and take you” I said trying not to roll my eyes “but as friends.” “You’re going to regret this decision Grant,” she said thickly, hopping out of the car and swinging her backpack over her shoulder, her lip curling back “Just you wait. I guarantee by the end of the night of the ball, you’ll have no choice but to make me your mate” she threatened, slamming the car door shut with a loud bang.
I arched a brow but made no comment as she turned on her heel and stomped towards her house, shaking my head in amusement. It was an empty threat, I thought amused, reversing and heading towards the pack house, I mean what exactly was she going to do? She was harmless. I should have never underestimated Sarah and the lengths she would go to, in order to become Luna of the pack, but I would never have been able to anticipate just how far she would go, to get what she wanted and who she was willing to destroy in the process.
