Sarah POV
I can’t believe he humiliated me like this, and for what? So, he could claim that heifer of a sister of mine as his mate? She rejected him and he still wouldn’t accept it, I fumed, as I got out of the car, warning Grant that he would pay for what he’d done. He and Jordan would pay for humiliating me like this. I stormed towards the house, with a foul temper, bitterness in my mouth. I was meant to be Luna of this pack, not that b***h of a sister of mine. I was so angry that my nails were digging into the palms of my hands and drawing blood. I slammed the front door open, surprised to see my father home, sitting at the dining table, a bemused expression on his face, while Jordan quietly cleaned, sweeping in the kitchen.
“Something wrong darling?” my father asked in concern, his eyes sweeping over me.
My eyes shot daggers at Jordan who instantly paled. I could hardly tell my father that Jordan was trying to steal my boyfriend when he didn’t exactly know I was dating Grant. I took a deep breath and plastered a fake, insincere smile on my face.
“No” I lied, “just a bit of a rough day at school and I’m stressing a little over the whole ball thing” I admitted.
My father let out a groan of dismay and face-palmed himself. “Damnit, I suppose I need to take Jordan shopping for a dress” he sneered “so that Alpha John and Luna Mary don’t ask questions.”
He shot a disgruntled look at Jordan who looked sheepish now. I raised an eyebrow. Why didn’t she look worried? “Um, about that,” she said slowly “Luna Serena, Jaxon’s mother, took me shopping on the weekend for a dress. I already have one for the ball” she explained hastily.
My father did not look pleased. “You let somebody else buy a dress for you?” he exploded as I watched gleefully, Jordan shrinking back from the vehemence in his voice “What did you tell her to get her to take you shopping” he breathed, towering over her menacingly.
Jordan blinked. “Nothing, I didn’t tell her anything” she stammered “Luna Serena wanted to take me shopping. She doesn’t have any daughters and thought it would be fun.”
“You better be telling the truth” my father hissed and Jordan nodded frantically.
He sighed and ran a furious hand through his hair, his eyes narrowed on her. I hoped he would hit her, beat her for her reckless disregard of his rules, but he must have been in a reasonable mood because he merely glowered at her for a minute and then grimaced.
“Well then, I guess I don’t have to bother. Where is the dress?” he demanded, and Jordan swallowed nervously.
“I um, left it back with her. She’s going to have Jaxon bring it on Saturday” Jordan said lamely “I didn’t want to get it dirty.”
More likely she didn’t want me to tear her dress to shreds, I thought maliciously, but I highly doubt she would have found a dress to look good in any way. I did have to admit that her hair looked good, it obviously had highlights in it and now that I looked at them, she’d had her nails done too. It wouldn’t do her any good, I thought triumphantly, she’d clearly refused to be Grant’s mate and I was going to make sure that they stayed separated the entire night of the ball, even if it killed me.
My father glanced at his watch and groaned, coming over to me and giving me a loving kiss on the cheek. “I have to go,” he said briefly “I have a meeting to attend with Alpha John. I won’t be home tonight” he added, darting his eyes to Jordan, a warning look in his eyes “so I’ve instructed two of my patrol members to stand guard outside the house. If there’s an emergency” he added, looking directly at me “then call me pumpkin, okay. Otherwise, Jordan will make dinner as usual and clean up. Got it?”
“Got it,” I said obediently. It wasn’t often he had to attend meetings, but usually when he did it was at other packs. Oh well, this worked out perfectly I thought with a smirk, eyeing Jordan who looked back at me warily, her face draining of color.
He gave me a hug, shot Jordan a glare, and then scurried out of the house, the door closing with a bang behind him. I gave it a minute or two, to make sure that he was completely gone, before whirling around and facing Jordan, sheer rage on my face.
“How dare you” I hiss, moving forward as she backed up, right into the kitchen cupboards behind her, her body quivering ” Grant is my boyfriend. I don’t care that your mates, I don’t care that he’s suddenly decided for some god knows what reason, that he wants you, you so much as think of rescinding that rejection and I’ll kill you” I snarled, grabbing her by the throat and lightly squeezing as I issued my threat.
“I wasn’t going to” she uttered, her nails clawing at my hands as I tightened my grip further, her eyes bulging out of her head.
“You know, just because your hair has been done and your nails have been painted, doesn’t make you any more attractive. It’s just paint. You’ll always be ugly underneath. A fat, worthless cow. I’m meant to be with Grant, not you. So get that through your thick head right now” I snapped, letting go and grabbing her hair, smashing her head into the counter and hearing her give a cry of pain with satisfaction flooding through me.
I wasn’t anywhere near finished hurting her. Pure unadulterated rage shot through me. My frustration boiled over. I kicked her in the leg as hard as I could and clawed across her midsection with my claws, my eyes darkening as my wolf came close to the surface.
“Sarah stop” she whimpered “Please. I told you; I don’t want Grant.”
“I’m making sure you don’t even consider it” I shouted, punching her in the face and blackening her eye as she tried to put her hands up to defend herself and failed abysmally.
“God, I can’t even, you’re so damn pitiful” I yelled, punching her in the midsection and watching her double over in pain “I have no idea what Grant sees in you when he could have somebody that looks like me” I screamed, as Jordan fell to the floor, curled up in a small ball, sobbing quietly. I spat on her for good measure.
“You’re disgusting, repulsive” I hissed, “a loser. I wish you’d never been born” I declared “What Jaxon sees in you, I don’t understand. Even he admits you’re only friends” I said sarcastically “which means he has no interest in dating a fat cow like you either” I laughed sardonically as she looked up at me, tears trailing down her face.
“Stop” she whimpered as I put my boot down on her hand and deliberately pushed down, hearing the sound of cracks as several of her fingers broke and she screamed.
“Let this be a warning. Next time it will be even worse” I warned her, my voice dripping with malice as I looked down at her, her eyes welling with tears, her brown hair matted and mussed, her clothes torn and crumpled, her body covered in bruises. I felt no compunctions about what I’d done or remorse. She deserved everything she had received and then
some.
“I’m sorry,” she said in a cracked voice, her eyes sliding away from mine “Please just let me go” she whispered.
God, how I despised her. She was so weak. So pathetic. What I wouldn’t give to be an only child. I released my foot and then turned and headed towards my bedroom, hearing the sounds of Jordan sobbing in the distance as I headed upstairs. I tuned out the annoying sound and opened my bedroom door with a slam and headed inside, grabbing my cell phone from my pocket and flipping through my social media account, bored now and unable to concentrate as all I could think about was how I was going to keep Grant from persuading Jordan to accept him as her mate.
Something caught the corner of my eye and I frowned. What was that on my desk? I stood up slowly and wandered over, intrigued. My father hadn’t mentioned I’d received a package. My eyes lit up as I realized what it must be and I hastened to make sure that my bedroom door was locked before I began to tear into the parcel, ripping it to shreds, the small vial of dried herb powder falling onto the table with a soft thunk. It was the Catuaba herb that I’d ordered online! I eyed it in fascination. I’d ordered both the herb and the tablets, but the tablets must be coming in a separate order. Never mind, the herb looked so ground that it would easily be hidden in a drink or food. The vial was small enough to fit into my handbag as well. That was one of my problems sorted, I thought smirking, careful to slide the vial into my desk drawer. I ensured that the packaging and invoice provided were torn to shreds so that nobody could come across what I had ordered accidentally or otherwise. I crammed it all in the bottom of my wastebasket and piled stuff on top, just in case. I was being paranoid but it was better to be safe than sorry.
The last thing I wanted was something to upset my plans. Now I needed to get my hands on the fentanyl. That was going to prove to be tricker than I initially thought. Maybe I should focus on a different sedative, I mused. There must be somebody at school who could provide me with the drugs I was seeking, for the right price of course. I would have to ask my mates, surely one of them had a contact they could get me in touch with. I drummed my fingers on my phone, a small smile on my face.
Oh, Jordan, you really shouldn’t have gone after my boyfriend, I thought to myself, shaking my head. What I’d initially planned had been bad but now I was determined to go even further. I was going to make sure she was ruined the night of the ball and I didn’t care what it took. Not only that but I was going to force Grant to accept me as his chosen mate. He didn’t get to just push me to the side as though I meant nothing to him. No way Jose, I wasn’t something he could discard like a piece of rubbish.
My phone rang. I absently answered it. “Hello, what’s up?” I said calmly.
It was Sandra. “Hey girl, you excited about this ball or what?” she squealed.
I rolled my eyes. She was so darn dramatic. “Yeah, I guess,” I said sighing.
“What’s wrong?” she asked concerned.
“I don’t know, I guess I’m really anxious,” I said carefully “I feel like I need something to calm me down, you know make me calm on the night. Something to bring me down.”
“Oh, girl, I can help with that,” Sandra said excitedly as I sat up straight, listening intently “I can get my hands on all sorts of things. I know someone at school. So long as you’re willing to pay, I can pretty much get anything. Just let me know what you’re after.”
“I just need a sedative,” I said, holding the phone tightly “And Sandra” I added, breathing lightly into the phone as my friend gave a giggle “trust me, money is no object. Just make sure I have it before the ball.”
