Jordan POV
I was happy that Jaxon found his mate but Grant’s appearance had soured my mood. On top of that, after downing two glasses of that slightly bitter, yellow-gold-looking champagne, I wasn’t feeling so crash hot. I felt tipsy, lightheaded, and like the ground was rolling underneath my feet. I clearly did not have the head for alcohol and I cursed myself for not drinking slower and for drinking two so quickly in a row. I excused myself, assuring Jaxon I would be fine, and went in search of Luna Mary, needing someplace to lie down and get my bearings, my stomach roiling slightly in discomfort. I also felt incredibly tired, which was strange but I put it down to the effects of the alcohol as I gingerly reached out and patted Luna Mary’s shoulder, not wanting to interrupt the discussion she was having with her husband, but wanting to make her aware of my presence without being rude.
She turned to face me. “Jordan,” she said sweetly “is there something wrong sweetheart?” her voice was tinged with
concern.
I shook my head, feeling sweat bead across my brow, and struggled to keep my breathing even, my dress feeling like it was constricting across my chest “No, actually I was wondering” I said a little hesitantly “if maybe I could go lie down in one of the rooms you’ve reserved?”
“Well of course you can, that’s what they are there for. Are you alright?” she asked “I mean the ball has just started and you look a little flushed” she added, peering at me with narrowed eyes.
“I think I drank too much,” I said meekly, hanging my head down low “and I’m not feeling the best. I just need to lie down for a little bit” I breathed.
“Oh sweetheart, I should have warned you how strong the champagne was” Luna Mary fretted, like the kind Luna she was, turning to her husband “Oh dear, I’m just going to escort Jordan to a room and then I’ll be right back” she assured him.
“Do you need me to come too?” Alpha John asked and Luna Mary shook her head decisively, grabbing hold of my arm and leading me towards the doors.
“I’m so sorry” I apologized, feeling heat wash over my body.
Was it my imagination or was it getting increasingly hot inside the building? I bit my lip feeling chagrined. Luna Mary looked surprised by my admission. “What do you have to be sorry for?” she asked perplexed and chuckling “I remember what it was like to be young once. I can’t remember how many times I indulged in too much alcohol and ended up vomiting my guts up,” she said reminiscing and giggling like a schoolgirl “it’s a part of growing up my dear. Don’t stress. A little nap and some rest and you’ll be good as new, just you wait and see,” she said kindly.
She was so nice, I thought numbly as we left the ballroom and headed towards the elevator. Suddenly I felt a spurt of pain shoot through my body and my knees buckled slightly. Luna Mary’s arm gripped me tighter, keeping me upright. I let out a whoosh, as I leaned against the wall, my body trembling.
“Hmmm, perhaps you should make sure you drink plenty of water once you get up to the room” murmured Luna Mary ruefully “I forgot the effects that alcohol can take on your body, especially if you’re a newbie” she teased.
I gave a dry chuckle. Suddenly a voice cut in from behind us. “Luna Mary, I would be happy to assist my sister to a room so that she can rest and you could go back to the ballroom,” Sarah said, coming up beside us as I gave her a glower. Trust her to ruin everything.
Sarah looked like a supermodel, as usual. Her dress was a one-shoulder, white dress that gathered tightly across the bodice and then flowed down to her ankles. She looked pure, innocent, virginal. Her long brown hair was curled and left down her back in waves and her makeup was lightly applied. She wore white heels, similar to my own, and a simple gold locket that nestled between her breasts.
“Oh Sarah, how lovely of you to offer” beamed Luna Mary “But I would hate to leave Jordan in such a state. It would be incredibly rude of me,” she said in dismay.
Not to mention I didn’t trust my sister one bit. What was she up to now? Was she simply trying to keep me separate from Grant or was there more to it? She reminded me of a praying mantis, with long skinny legs and arms, ready to rip off her mate’s head. I shuddered, my imagination going into overdrive. Maybe the elevator would turn into a closet which would take Sarah to Narnia, I thought hopefully. I mean, a girl could hope, couldn’t she?
“Oh, I forgot to mention that Grant was looking for you,” Sarah said in dismay, “he said that it was urgent. I’m more than capable of taking Jordan to the top floor and escorting her to a room,” she said cheerfully “I’m stronger than I look” she added as Luna Mary hesitated.
God no, please don’t abandon me, Luna Mary, I thought, even as I closed my eyes and continued to sway on my feet. Luna Mary bit her lip, clearly indecisive.
“We’re sisters after all. It’s only right I take care of my little sister” Sarah pushed.
Ha. If I could have laughed without vomiting I would have. Sister my ass I fumed. I subtly flipped her the finger when Luna Mary looked away. Sarah smirked at me. b***h was definitely up to something. I’d rather stagger upstairs myself and take my chances. What was the worst that was going to happen?
“Okay,” Luna Mary said reluctantly, as Sarah beamed at her “I’ve reserved the entire top floor but rooms 506 and 510 are both reserved for male guests already. So she can have any room but those ones. Here’s the key card that opens any room ” she added, handing it to Sarah who tucked it in between her breasts a glint in her eye “I hope you feel better Jordan” she added, her eyes sparkling as Sarah took hold of my arm, turning and walking away, her heels clacking loudly on the floor. f**k. She might as well have fed me to the wolves, I thought sourly. Sarah giggled under her breath. I shot her a look full of daggers, even as my vision became blurry. Damn, I could barely make out the elevator.
“What is it you’re really after?” I hissed as Sarah gently pulled me towards the elevator “Don’t lie to me, Sarah. What the hell is all this?”
She rolled her eyes. “Quit being such a drama queen” she snarled as we piled into the elevator and the doors shut “I’m merely trying to be helpful, besides if you’re up there, then you’re not anywhere near Grant” she hissed.
So that was it. I relaxed slightly. She was merely trying to keep me separated from her boyfriend.
“I already told you I didn’t want him as my mate,” I told her tiredly, leaning against the metal bar in the elevator, my head feeling fuzzy, my body so warm it was becoming almost intolerable.
“Yeah, well he still wants you” she snapped “so you’ll excuse me for wanting to make sure you leave him the hell alone. Now just shut up, so I can get you to a room already” she added, flipping her hair over her shoulder and admiring her reflection in the mirror.
I scoffed at her but fell silent as the elevator reached the fifth floor, the doors opening with a loud ping. She tugged me out into the corridor. Sleepy, I was so sleepy. I yawned. “Sarah why does it matter what room it is” I complained, trying to peer at the numbers and giving up as they were much too blurry to make out properly.
“I’m trying to make sure I don’t give you the wrong one,” she said annoyed “You heard what Luna Mary said. So just be patient” she snapped, tugging on my arm so hard that I stumbled and almost fell.
“Sarah” I groaned, my body pulsating and my core beginning to throb uncomfortably “Please, I just need to lie down. Just pick a random one” I complained, stumbling along on my heels.
“Fine” she sighed, stopping directly in front of one. She gingerly retrieved the key card from between her breasts and swiped it through the door, the door opening automatically. She pulled me inside. Hot, it was so hot, I thought miserably.
There was a massive bed in the center of the room. I sat down on it and attempted to kick my shoes off. Sarah swore under her breath and grabbed them, yanking them off.
“You should probably take your dress off as well, otherwise you’ll wrinkle it” she suggested.
I could barely concentrate at that stage. My mind was fuzzy. “Yeah, maybe that would be best” I murmured, standing back up and presenting my back to her. She pulled the zip down and I let the dress fall to the floor, standing there just in my white lace panties, as she picked the dress up and hung it in the closet. She was being way more helpful than I would have anticipated.
“Luna Serena would probably be upset if you ruined the dress, not to mention Alpha Jaxon” she muttered shrugging.
Oh, okay then. Fair enough. I climbed onto the bed, and pulled the covers over me, sinking onto the pillows and letting out a moan. The bed was so soft, so luxurious, compared to the threadbare mattress I was forced to sleep on at home. I cuddled a pillow to my chest.
“Sleep tight” sang Sarah sounding like she was in an extremely good mood, the door shutting with a loud bang behind her. I burrowed into the pillows, my core throbbing painfully, letting out a small cry as electricity pulsed through my body. I felt this insatiable desire for something, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I was sleepy, but not enough to fall completely asleep. Desire, I realized, I was feeling desire. I felt the need to have somebody thrusting inside of me and I whimpered, the heat continuing to increase and the insatiable lust not fading away. This couldn’t just be the alcohol.
Alcohol didn’t do this to shifters. I groaned out loud, rolling over onto my back and panting. How did I get rid of this? I was beginning to feel wet down below and my juices were beginning to flow. I was contemplating going out into the hallway and grabbing the nearest man I could find, something that was completely incomprehensible and shocking to me.
I sniffed, the smell of bergamot and the merest hint of peppermint drifting towards me, making me salivate and my legs clamp together. f**k. Even smells were making me turned on. I whimpered some more as the smell grew stronger. Whatever that smell was, it was making me insane. Shocks reverberated through my body. Suddenly the door to the hotel room burst open with a large bang and the shadowy figure of a large man stood there, towering in the doorway, a growl issuing from his lips “Mate” before he crossed the room, kicking the door shut behind him, and pressing his lips firmly to mine as my body quivered in pure, unadulterated pleasure.
