                    Sarah POV
Everything was working perfectly to plan. Jordan had been drugged successfully, thanks to a large paid bribe and a dubious waitress. Who would have thought it would work so quickly, to the point she couldn’t even make out the numbers on the doors? It was brilliant. The irony was she didn’t even know she was drugged, the stupid b***h thought she was just tipsy from too much alcohol. I smirked to myself. Luna Mary had no idea how much she had helped my plan along when she’d told me to avoid certain rooms due to them being reserved for men. I had no doubts that Jordan was going to be losing her virginity tonight, with very little memory of how it happened and I almost laughed out loud at the thought of it.
I snagged two champagne glasses from a waitress on the way out, Grant glumly making his way behind me, his eyes scanning the room and the hallways. I wasn’t stupid, or naïve. I knew he was looking for that slut sister of mine, Jordan. He’d already had the nerve to approach her once tonight and I was going to guarantee that he wasn’t going to do it again. I felt the vial of Catuaba nestled snugly against my breasts, tucked in between them, where it couldn’t be seen, the merest trace of it left as I walked down the corridor, heading straight to the elevator.
Silence. Grant didn’t say anything, a brooding expression on his handsome face as we made our way up to the fifth floor. For a moment I was hesitant, hoping that Jordan hadn’t stumbled her way out of the room but there was no sign of her, and the door to the bedroom I’d left her in was firmly shut. The merest hint of her scent lingered and I saw Grant’s nostrils flare as he smelt it, but he tightened his jaw and his eyes flashed as he deliberately looked in the opposite direction. I took him as far away as I could, opening the door with the key card Luna Mary had lent me, opening the door with a flourish and motioning for Grant to step inside with me.
He scowled and stepped just inside, kicking the door shut with a loud thud. I put the glasses on the side table. I needed him to look away, just for a moment so that I could lace his drink with the aphrodisiac. To my shock, I didn’t even have to come up with a distraction. Grant shoved past me, headed into the bathroom, and shut the door. I whipped out the vial and quickly tipped the herb into a glass, using my finger to stir it in and dissolve it. I placed the lid back on the vial and then subtly kicked the vial underneath the bed where it couldn’t be seen, just as the door to the bathroom reopened.
”
I handed the glass with the herb to Grant and took hold of the other one, taking a small sip as he glowered at the glass. Have a sip Grant” I cajoled, holding my breath “I know that today has been hard on you and that it’s not exactly going how you planned. It will relax you” I breathed.
He rolled his eyes and then downed half the glass in one go, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand while I silently celebrated.
“You got that right,” he said morosely “She won’t even look at me.”
Jordan, Jordan, Jordan, I thought sarcastically, it was all Grant could bloody think about. What about me? Did he not see how I was suffering? I was the one who had been by his side the entire time. I was the one who he needed to be his Luna. Why couldn’t he see that?
I sighed. “Grant, don’t you think it’s time to let her go?” I said quietly, trying to appear sympathetic “Jordan rejected you right to your face. She told you directly that she doesn’t want anything to do with you. Can’t you accept that? Why keep putting yourself through this pain? What good is it doing you?”
“Because my wolf doesn’t want anyone else” he burst out exasperated, running a hand through his hair, the other one still clutching the glass tightly “And she could still change her mind” he muttered “She just needs time to rethink it all.”
I tried not to laugh at his optimism. He was really sounding pathetic, like a lost puppy, I thought to myself scornfully. He took a sip of his champagne and frowned. “This drink is bitter” he muttered.
“Duh, it’s champagne, it’s meant to be,” I said quickly before he could dwell too much on that.
He grimaced and then shrugged. “Why did you bring me up here Sarah? What do you want?” he asked tiredly, sitting on the bed, a forlorn expression on his face.
I sauntered closer, placing a hand on his shoulder “Grant isn’t it obvious? I have loved you ever since we were small children” I said sniffling, my eyes welling with tears. God, I was good. I was going for overly dramatic and sentimental. “I can’t remember a time when I didn’t think you weren’t the greatest man alive. I was so hurt when you tossed me aside because you discovered Jordan was your mate” I sobbed “It was like I didn’t exist to you anymore. Like my feelings didn’t matter to you at all. Like I meant nothing to you.”
His eyes softened as he looked up at me, “I never meant to make you feel that way, but the mate bond, it’s so strong Sarah ” he said roughly “It’s not like anything you’ve ever experienced before. I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings” he exhaled “but it appears I’ve done just that anyway.”
I turned into him. “Grant, why can’t we return to what we were before? We both had great chemistry, we or at least I loved you, and the s*x was amazing” I breathed, stroking his hair as he looked down at the ground “I can make you feel that way again. Just say the word” I whispered, peering down into his eyes as he glanced back up with hooded eyes.
“Sarah I don’t think…” he trailed off as I held up a hand.
“Just hear me out,” I said hastily “Your mother and father are expecting you to choose a mate. Jordan doesn’t even have a wolf. She’s not capable of fighting rogues or protecting the pack against potential threats or dangers. She can’t defend herself against attacks as a human either” I reminded him hoarsely “You would spend your entire life having to protect her, worried that she would end up injured or dead otherwise. That’s no way to live Grant. She would just be a liability and a burden to you” I pointed out.
He looked uncertain. I continued to press forward. “The pack would never respect her as a Luna, they don’t even respect her as a person” I murmured, pressing my body against him “What would other Alpha’s think if they visited our pack and saw her as the Luna? They would see us as vulnerable and weak” I insisted, my voice rising with passion “Grant you have to see the sense in what I’m saying.”
He bit his lip. “You’re asking me to let go of the other half of me” he growled, his eyes darkening as his wolf came dangerously close to the surface.
“I’m asking you to consider the needs of the pack, above your own wants and desires” I countered back.
He opened his mouth and then suddenly grimaced, giving a shout of pain, clutching his abdomen, and falling onto the bed in shock.
“Grant, Grant, are you okay?” I asked in a panic, climbing onto the bed beside him and rubbing soothing circles on his back.
“Oh god, it feels like my chest is on fire and my heart is being torn to shreds” he groaned, panting heavily “It just came out of nowhere” he hissed.
He gave another howl, his fingers scrabbling at his chest. I eyed him in concern, realization suddenly dawning as I fought back the smile that threatened to erupt. I knew exactly what this pain was, even if Grant hadn’t exactly come to the same conclusion yet.
“Oh my god, Grant do you not realize what this is?” I asked in fake dismay, fluttering my eyelashes at him as he turned over, bent in a fetal position.
“No” he snarled, sweat beading on his forehead “If I did, don’t you think I would have said something? Christ” he swore vehemently and then cursed some more as his body began to tremble. His eyes darkened some more and he let out a ferocious growl. Some instinct warned me that his wolf Hades had just informed him what the source of the pain was.
“That traitorous b***h” he howled, trying to struggle to his feet, and falling back down “I’ll kill her for this.”
Ah, so now Jordan was a traitorous b***h, I thought to myself amused. He had conveniently forgotten about her rejecting him. I shook my head and lightly ran my hand up and down his arm in an effort to comfort him.
“Grant” I whispered, bending down to whisper into his ear “that pain is because Jordan is sleeping with someone. You’re just going to continue to feel pain until you choose to accept the rejection. She’s not feeling any pain on her side, you know that.”
He groaned. “f**k, it hurts.”
“She clearly doesn’t care for you. Do yourself a favor and accept the rejection before the pain gets worse. You know the pain will only increase until she stops what she’s doing.”
He debated with himself. I waited, patiently, certain that he would do the only sensible thing open to him. He would be a fool not to. Finally, he took a deep shuddering breath and then, whispered “I accept the rejection.”
I saw his body relax as the pain left his body. Slowly he sat up, blinking, wiping the sweat off his forehead with his hand and sighing heavily.
“I guess she really did hate me,” he said sadly as I rolled my eyes internally.
Suddenly, a minute later, he flinched. “Is it hot in here or is it just me?” he complained, getting up and beginning to pace back and forth.
The air was actually quite cool. I looked at him confused and then grinned. The herb I’d laced his drink with was starting to work. He turned and eyed me hungrily, licking his lips. “God you’re gorgeous” he muttered, slinking towards me, his eyes so dark they were almost pitch black, “and you smell so good” he growled, sniffing deeply.
I put a hand on his chest and smiled with confidence. I had him in the palm of my hand but I knew I had to act quickly. Before the drug wore off because it would also take most of his memory with him.
I nibbled on his earlobe “I taste even better” I purred “Want to find out?”
I barely had time to register his movements before he picked me up by his strong muscled arms and almost threw me on the bed, his hands eagerly beginning to undo the zipper down the side of my dress, while his eyes raked over my body with lust, his hard c**k pressing into my leg.
