                    Grant POV
“You’re a bastard” she sobbed, as I deliberately turned away from her, a pillow in between the middle of us on the bed, the alarm going off. My arm shot out and turned it off, and I sat up, yawning, looking at her with an exasperated look on my face.
“What am I bastard for now?” I asked, hopping out of bed and grabbing my clothes, about to head into the bathroom.
“I can’t believe you used me like that, pretending I was Jordan” she shrieked at me.
I rolled my eyes, this again, I thought with a sigh. Could she just get the f**k over it already? It had been more than a day since that happened. Was she going to continue on like this forever?
“Well, maybe if you came clean about what you did to get me to sleep with you and mark you the night of the ball, it wouldn’t have happened,” I said scornfully. She could deny it all she wanted, I know she did something.
There was no other reason for my memory to be so hazy. Or for Hades to be so confused by what happened. My instincts were screaming that she was responsible.
“I didn’t do anything,” she said tearfully, her eyes red and puffy “I swear” she wailed, trying to appear innocent.
I wasn’t buying it. I stalked into the bathroom and shut the door purposely behind me, locking it and taking my time showering and getting ready for school while Sarah supposedly did the same in the room. Not that I gave a damn whether she went to school or not to be fair. She could wallow away in her misery at home, and I would be just as happy.
I dried myself and got dressed, coming out of the bathroom. Sarah was wearing a skimpy outfit, that showed off all her attributes. How surprising I thought to myself sardonically. She flashed me a tentative smile. “How do I look?” she whispered, her makeup hiding her red and puffy eyes.
Was I supposed to give a flying f**k? Who was she trying to impress?
I gave a nonchalant shrug. “Fine, I guess,” I said with a roll of my eyes “like you always do.”
God forbid she went to school looking less than perfect. Or natural without makeup.
She sighed. “Can’t you just be a little bit kinder to me? I am your chosen mate” she whined, pouting and sulking like a child. It was not attractive.
I turned on her. “You’re only my chosen mate because you did something to force me to mark you” I snarled, not in the mood to be kind to her as she flinched from my verbal attack “So don’t whinge to me that you want me to be nicer to you. You’re in this situation due to your own conniving so get used to being treated like crap. I told you that I’d make your life a living hell and I meant every damn word. f*****g Slut” I hissed.
She cringed and backed away from me, holding her hands up in surrender.
I opened the bedroom door and glowered at her. She gathered herself and timidly walked out of the bedroom, straightening her shoulders. I slammed the door behind me, in a foul mood, and stalked behind her, heading into the kitchen for breakfast. My mother looked a little startled to see us both looking so glum. The air was rife with tension.
“Everything alright son?” she asked a little uncertainly.
“Fine,” I said shortly, plonking myself down at the table.
Sarah just sat and stared down at the table looking miserable. I gained a certain bit of satisfaction from that. The omegas placed plates of food in front of us and I began to dig in, Sarah nibbling tentatively on hers.
“So graduation next week” my mother beamed “Are you excited about it?” she asked.
“Yeah,” I muttered, not excited in the slightest, because it meant being home with Sarah more often “I guess so.”
“Yes,” Sarah said quietly, forcing a fake smile on her face and giving a tight nod.
My mother frowned, glancing between the both of us. “Is everything alright?” she asked concerned “You both seem to be out of sorts. Don’t tell me you had an argument already?”
“We’re just tired” I improvised, and Sarah nodded meekly.
“Okay,” my mother exhaled. She took a deep breath “We need to discuss the arrangements for the Luna Ceremony” she said and I groaned out loud. That was the last thing I wanted to talk about or think about for that matter.
“Can that wait until after school?” I asked a bit impatiently “It’s not like Sarah’s going anywhere” I joked, even though it was my wish that she would, in fact, do just that.
Sarah glared at me. I blinked at her, my eyes narrowing. She looked away.
“Okay, but you have to promise me that you’ll make time to discuss the ceremony with me. I want to make sure that you both know what to expect and that you’re entirely comfortable with it. Not to mention we need to pick a date for it.”
“There’s no rush though is there” I interrupted “I mean, you and father weren’t planning on giving us the titles anytime soon were you?” I asked, hopefully.
Please say no. I wanted to be Alpha but not with Sarah at my side. Not now that I distrusted her and her motives so much. My hands clenched into fists as I waited for my mother’s answer, biting the inside of my cheek in my agitation.
My mother looked thoughtful. “Well, it’s true that we wanted you to transition into the roles before taking over them completely. But wouldn’t you like to put a date in place, and get things ready in preparation? We’re hardly going to hold onto the titles forever” she said lightly, a smirk on her face.
I grinned. “I know that mother but please, we’re just getting to know each other as chosen mates. Let’s give it a little more time” I pleaded and her eyes softened as she looked at the both of us, understanding dawning on her face.
“I understand,” she said quietly “It must be difficult, forming a relationship under these circumstances but I’m pleased that you were both friends, to begin with. I think you both suit each other well, for what it’s worth.”
“Thank you” Sarah beamed, a smile on her face.
Any other time I would have appreciated the sentiment, but not this time.
My mother relaxed as we began to eat our food and drink our coffee, the tension rapidly dissipating as she cajoled us both into conversation and made us laugh.
I finished my food and stood up, grabbing my backpack from nearby. “I gotta get to school,” I told my mother, bending down and kissing her on the cheek “I’ll see you when I get home” I promised.
Sarah got up and got her small bag as well, waving goodbye as she went to the front door. I slid past her and headed towards my car as she followed behind me, her heels clacking loudly on the pavement.
I stopped and pointedly looked at her. “Where do you think you’re going?” I growled.
“To school with you” she stammered confused “I thought…” she trailed off.
I raised an eyebrow “Take your own car” I snarled “There’s no way in hell I’m taking you in my car with me.”
“But Grant, everybody knows by now that you’ve taken me as your chosen mate. They’re going to be wondering why you’re not driving me to school” she complained.
“Tell them you like your independence” I drawled “or that you wanted to pick up some friends on the way to school. Whatever you want, I don’t care. I refuse to be in the same car as you” I added petulantly as her mouth dropped open in disbelief.
Her mouth flapped open and shut. She was clearly flabbergasted. I didn’t move, crossing my arms over my chest and fixing my eyes on hers. I wasn’t budging. She let out a large exhale, clearly resigned to my hatred of her. “You’re going to regret how you’re treating me” she muttered, shoving past me with a scowl on her face, her nose in the air.
“I already regret things, but I’m certain how I treat you is not going to be one of them” I called out as she looked over her shoulder, hurt on her face.
She flipped me the finger and tossed her hair over her shoulder, striding to her car and getting in, a glum expression on her face.
I rolled my eyes and opened the driver’s door, sliding inside grumpily. Hades chuckled in my mind.
Well, you sure showed her. But wasn’t pretending she was Jordan going a bit overboard? I mean you accepted the rejection, but still can’t seem to get past it.
I know. The thought of missing out on having Jordan as our mate is driving me slowly insane. I don’t know why. I mean, I teased her relentlessly for being big, I compared her to Sarah constantly and I allowed the pack members to bully her. But now, all I can think about is her, how kind she is, how compassionate, how beautiful. Why couldn’t I see it before?
Because you’re a stubborn jackass that’s why. I tried to hint at you so many times and you wouldn’t listen complained I tried to warn you what would happen if you didn’t stop.
Hades
I know and I only have myself to blame. Now we’re stuck with Sarah as our chosen mate and I have no idea how that happened.
I know. I’ve been wracking my brains to try and find out how that happened, but my memory is just as hazy as yours that night. There are only a few things that could cause that to shifters and their wolves.
Name it. Surely you have a suspicion of something Hades?
I do, but you aren’t going to like it.
Just tell me.
I think she might have drugged us with an aphrodisiac of some kind. It would have made us extremely horny and we would have been wanting to have s*x with the nearest available person. Certain ones cause memory loss and it would have made us susceptible to marking her as well.
That b***h growled but without proof there’s nothing I can do.
Except make her life a living hell until she leaves. Or maybe…
I can investigate her bank statements and internet history. I know a guy I interrupted Hades if she was stupid enough to purchase the items online, then there’ll be a transaction of the purchase. That’s all the proof I’ll need.
I started the engine of the car and peeled out of the driveway, my thoughts whirling with possibilities. If Sarah had done what Hades suspected, then she was in for a world of pain, because not only was it illegal, but it was completely unforgivable and punishable by torture and death.
I suspected she had thought she was cleverer than I, but she was about to learn that you don’t mess with the future Alpha. If she’d done me wrong, she was about to learn a valuable lesson, Gamma’s daughter or not, she wasn’t above the law.
My hands drummed on the steering wheel as I smirked, picturing just exactly how I was going to take my revenge on her. There would be no mercy, I vowed, as I sped along to school, and no forgiveness of any kind.
