                    Jaxon POV
Alex and I sat down companionably at the table, munching away on our breakfast, small smiles on our faces, stealing glances at one another, when my mother meandered her way in, along with my father, a wide smile on her face. I wanted to groan out loud. Oh god, what did she want now? What embarrassing thing was she going to come up with now? I could see Alex’s eyes begin to gleam. He for some unfathomable reason, found my mother hilarious and absolutely adored her, quirks and all. The feeling seemed to be mutual, I thought a bit grumpily. My mother was very taken with my mate. Not to mention was still acting weird due to all those pregnancy hormones.
“Boys” she cooed, sitting down at the table and regarding us with her hand propping up her chin, her eyes blinking at us innocently.
Yeah right, I wasn’t falling for that. My father was looking a lot more stoic and stern. There was something weighing heavily on his mind. I could tell just by looking at him.
“Good morning Mother,” I said evenly, wondering what she was up to now.
“Good morning Luna Serena and Alpha James,” Alex said quietly, inclining his head respectfully.
“Oh you silly boy, it’s just Serena to you or Mother,” my mother said excitedly, waving a dismissive hand at him. “We’re practically family” she gushed.
I cleared my throat. My mother had a tendency to forget what she had initially come in to talk about. “Was there something you wanted to discuss? Something important?” I asked warily, aware of the time and that I still had school to attend, unfortunately without Alex being there.
“Yes,” my father said evenly, fixing his eyes on us both “You’ve been learning how to be an Alpha for a long time now Jaxon and I’ve never had any hesitation in giving you the title when I thought the time was right. School will be over in a week and Alex has already graduated, as you well know” he paused as I waited, wondering where this was heading “Your mother and I think that maybe, now would be the perfect time for us to leave the pack in yours and Alex’s capable hands and go traveling for a while, go see the world, get to know each other all over again.”
Stunned silence. You could have heard a pin drop; it was that quiet. I put my fork down slowly. Alex did the same. I blinked. You could have knocked me over with a feather. My mother was beaming. Alex just looked overwhelmed with emotion. “But” he sputtered “but you hardly know me” he stammered “I mean, aren’t you worried that I’m not who I appear to be?” he argued.
It was an entirely rational argument, but he had completely forgotten what my mother was like. It was not going to work on her. I gave him kudos for trying though.
My mother looked at him astonished. “I know you and my son are getting along exceptionally well,” she said loudly “I mean there’s lube missing so I know you’ve been intimate with each other” she explained as we both colored bright red ” and you both obviously haven’t been with anyone but each other as no condoms were used” she continued as we both stared at the table “I counted.”
My father chuckled. “I think they get the picture” he commented drily as I willed him to get her to stop speaking “I think what your mother is trying to say is that we trust your judgment son and Alex here, seems like a nice young man. We have no concerns in leaving the pack in both of your hands and we’re only a phone call away if you need us” he said with a nonchalant shrug “but you’ve been training for this your whole life.”
My mother nodded. Her eyes were twinkling. “I want to travel while I’m still young enough to and before I become a grandma” she blurted out.
Okay, great. Something else to worry about. Alex and I gave each other a sidelong glance. He was amused by my mother, thank God. Which was good, because I think my c**k and balls just instinctively shriveled at the announcement she’d made. It might be a good long while before she became exactly that, I thought grumpily. Adoption was well out of my mind for the foreseeable future.
“When were you thinking of leaving?” I asked, no longer hungry, sensing there was some urgency to this discussion. I figured I had maybe a few days at the least, maybe more.
My mother looked a bit sheepish now as she turned and looked at my father. He sighed. “Your mother spontaneously booked tickets for tonight, so we’ll be leaving this afternoon, while you’re still at school” he explained heavily and resignedly.
My mother bounced up and down on her chair like an excited child. “I couldn’t wait anymore” she squealed “Do you know how long it’s been since we last traveled? Oh, the sights we’re going to see, the places we’re going to go, the souvenirs I’m going to pick up” she sighed, her face full of contentment and bliss “it’s going to be heaven.”
“Isn’t that a bit short notice?” I asked dismayed and yet not surprised in the slightest.
“Son, is that really surprising considering your mother’s enthusiasm?” my father asked wryly.
He had a point. I guess I should be thankful she wasn’t tearing out of the house right then and there, with a suitcase in her hand.
“Excuse me,” my mother said tetchily “I did have some restraint. I could have purchased tickets for three hours from now but I held myself back,” she said as though that was a serious achievement on her behalf.
I stared at her. She blinked at me. I groaned. My father just shrugged.
“I can stay in charge until you get back from school” Alex offered, winking at me.
He could sense my frustration as well as my resignation. It took a special person to deal with my mother and her unique personality. My father did exceptionally well, but he loved her more than life itself and it showed.
I sighed. There was one week of school left. What did it really matter if I attended or not? I had one year left to go but a week? That wasn’t going to affect my grades too much. Not when I had kept up my grades and nobody was going to fail an Alpha or deny them time off if they called out.
It wasn’t that I didn’t trust Alex, but I wanted to take the role of Alpha responsibly. Besides, I thought with a flash of inspiration, if I stayed home, then I could go over anything I was unsure about before my father and my mother left for god knows where.
“I’ll just stay home for the week,” I said regretfully.
“Oh, you don’t have to,” my mother said in dismay.
“I want to go over last-minute things with Father and Alex should also be there for that” I explained calmly while trying not to lose my composure. Seriously, she couldn’t wait one more week to go travel? I loved my mother but she could be exasperating at times.
“Good idea,” my father said with a nod and approval on his face “It’s always better to ask questions that you don’t know the answers to than find yourself stuck later on” he advised.
“Awesome” Alex enthused “I guess this means spending more time together as well” he added meaningfully.
Oh please, let that one go, I pleaded inside my head. Naturally, my mother couldn’t help herself. “Oh yes, just think about it. You guys will practically have all the floors except the bottom one to yourself. There are so many rooms to choose from. It will really spice up your love life” she said dreamily.
At this rate, I doubted my c**k would even work. Alex was smirking at me. My father’s shoulders were shaking as he held in his laughter. My mother winked at me and Alex turned away, making a strangled sound.
“Mother” I groaned “please stop talking about my love life. It’s creepy.”
“How do you think you got conceived? I can assure you it most definitely wasn’t an immaculate conception” she said indignantly and then paused “Do I need to give you the talk about the birds and the bees again? I thought I was very specific when we had that talk” she mused “I mean I used actual diagrams and everything” she said thinking back to it.
Oh, she had used diagrams alright, not to mention 3d models of the reproductive systems for both females and males when I was younger, and been very specific and blunt as to how they worked and what the names of the various parts were. My father had been fascinated by the models and had later admitted that even he didn’t know the names of everything to do with the female reproductive parts. He later got schooled by my mother as a result. Served him right. “No,” I said hastily “Trust me, you gave me a very long-winded and detailed explanation. Let’s not have that talk again.” Alex was looking away from me now, his body trembling in an effort to quell his laughter. My father was quick to cough again. “Let’s go to the study gentleman,” he said in a choked voice “We don’t have much time and I want to go over as much stuff as possible before I leave. Not to mention give you all the emergency phone numbers and contacts that you’ll need as well.”
He clapped a hand on my shoulder and diplomatically began to lead me away, Alex following behind me, his face almost blue. My mother blew us kisses. “I’ll go pack” she yelled out merrily “and then I’ll organize some stuff around the house” she screeched.
What in the hell did she need to organize? Scratch that, I didn’t even want to know. Anything that distracted her right now, was a welcome distraction in my book.
“Okay,” my father bellowed back, as we entered the study.
He shut the door, locked it, and then doubled over, laughing hard, tears trailing down his cheeks.
Alex lost control and began to laugh, wheezing and spluttering, doubling over and clutching his stomach. I groaned and slumped in the chair, waiting them out.
“I love your mother” my father wheezed “but sometimes, I don’t know what goes on in that pretty little head of hers. I’m sorry son” he added, chuckling and sitting at the desk as I glowered at him.
Alex plonked himself down, still giggling a little. “I think your mum is funny and adorable,” he said as I raised an eyebrow at him “I wish my mother had been like that growing up. It sounds like you had a fun childhood.”
Fun would be an understatement I thought with a small smile. Even though my childhood had been, well let’s say unconventional, I had never once thought I’d been unloved or unwanted. My mother had showered me with affection and attention and unconditional love. I sighed. Alex was right. I was lucky to have her. My father gave me a knowing look. “Well,” was all he said, booting up his laptop “let’s get to work. I only have a few hours to get you up to speed and then you’re all on your own” he warned.
