                    Grant POV
I was beyond pissed at how Sarah had tricked me into having s****I relations with her. I’d been dreaming of Jordan, her body writhing beneath mine, my hand caressing hers and everything had led from there. So, imagine my disgust when I managed to pry my eyes open, only to discover it was that b***h Sarah beneath me, a triumphant look on her face. She’d planned it. I had no doubts about that. The thought that I’d been intimate with her filled me with disgust and disdain. I had resolved not to touch her, especially now I had the evidence of what she had done to me, and in one night I’d managed to break that rule. Had she drugged me again? I let out a low growl, punching the pillow in anger. It did very little to alleviate my frustration.
I couldn’t sleep. It was the early hours of the morning. I had spent the night, or what was left of it in a guest room, fuming over what had occurred. Hades was just as peeved. Scratch that. Peeved was putting it mildly. Hades was furious and practically biting my head off.
When are you going to get rid of her? We have the evidence, what are you waiting for?
I need to get my hands on her card. She seems to be guarding that thing like it’s pure gold. I want to wait for the right time, to humiliate her. Not to mention ensure that she gets the punishment she deserves.
Forget the card. She’s hardly going to be able to deny it when you accuse her and show the transactions. What would you deem as the right time? Especially considering it’s highly probable that she’s drugged us twice now. Don’t you find that demeaning? Humiliating? Degrading? It’s unbecoming of an Alpha.
Ouch. You have a strong point. I guess I’ll consider it. I want to bring it to my parent’s attention before the Luna Ceremony. Thank god they aren’t considering leaving the title to me anytime soon. But you’re right, she can’t be allowed to get away with this much longer. I want the elders to be present when I bring up the charges against her. They have to witness it anyway. It’s the law.
Then send out the invitation already. It will take weeks for them to come here and be present for a meeting between you and her. Your parents will need a heads-up. They won’t appreciate being blindsided.
Okay, okay, I’ll make the call today. Just be a little patient. We have her Hades. We just need to follow the correct protocols. We can’t afford to mess things up, not even a little bit. The council of elders will be the one to decide what happens to her, once they have heard all the evidence and seen the proof for themselves.
I cut the link off and yawned, rolling over and climbing out of bed, quietly dragging my clothes on. I ran a hand through my hair, mussing it up further. I might as well get a little bit of training in seeing as I was awake already. I put my shoes on and headed out the door, taking the stairs slowly and heading out the front door, blinking at the dim sunlight, the fresh air instantly causing me to wake up and feel slightly more energized.
I headed straight towards the training ring. There was barely anyone there but to my shock, Maxwell was there, directing the few who had attended. I glanced around hopefully, but there was no sign of Jordan anywhere. He must not be training her today I thought with a sigh. Maxwell spotted me and I noticed his eyes narrowing. He cleared his throat.
“Grant,” he said in a deceptively pleasant voice “to what do I owe the honour of you attending? Are you wishing to train?” he asked.
I gave a grunt and a tight nod. I wasn’t impressed to find him there. His eyes glinted as he surveyed me. “How about we train together” he offered.
I was more than ready to take up the challenge. My hands clenched into fists, anticipation running through my veins.
I hopped into the ring. “Human form or wolf,” I said grimly.
“Human” he hissed, not even pretending to be considerate any longer. He had a point to make, but so did I.
I got into a defensive stance and waited, my eyes raised, watching him carefully for the first sign or any movement he was about to make. He launched himself at me and I quickly sideswiped, ramming my fist into his midsection and then whacking it onto the back of his head before jumping away. He gave a low groan and then shot back up, his eyes promising retribution.
“Very good” he snarled and then launched another attack, getting me in the shoulder and then kicking out as I easily dodged and counter-manoeuvred with an uppercut, getting him in the jaw and causing his lower lip to split. He spat blood on the grass, not looking quite as pleased or as amused now.
He growled. I smirked. Not so cocky now, are you old man I thought with a sense of satisfaction. I took the offensive strategy and tackled him, kicking his knee and causing him to stumble, before doing a roundhouse kick to his stomach and then punching him in the eye which instantly blackened. I backed away as he hissed, standing back up and stumbling slightly. He was strong, he had to be in order to earn the Gamma title, but he was no match for an Alpha or rather a soon-to-be Alpha. He was outmatched. He just wasn’t smart enough to realize it. Or I had made him angry enough that he was ignoring his basic instinct to back off and survive.
“Maxwell, enough. You’re only going to hurt yourself even more” I growled as he darted towards me.
I rolled around him and punched him in the ribs, kicking him in the back and sending him flying forward. “Cocky little bastard aren’t you” he panted.
I raised an eyebrow. I observed him cooly. “Is that any way to speak to your future Alpha?” I asked him evenly.
He glowered at me. I could see that he was struggling not to overstep his boundaries and say something that would automatically get him thrown into the dungeon or even executed.
“Forgive me Alpha Grant,” he said stiffly.
I relaxed. He shifted and I dodged to the side, shifting into my large black wolf, cursing him in my mind. He really was a moron. Hades found this amusing. Thrilling even. I gave him complete control and he twisted around and leaped on top of Maxwell’s wolf, digging his claws into his back and tearing them down, gouging his flesh as he howled. We jumped, landing on the grass, our lips curled back in a snarl, foam frothing at the mouth as we tried to anticipate Maxwell’s next move. He was badly injured now, blood trickling from his various wounds.
He darted forward towards me and I sideswiped him, deeply wounding his side as he let out a low growl. Suddenly there was another low growl, a furious one, coming from behind me. Maxwell’s wolf stopped dead in its tracks, his neck bared in submission. I instinctively knew whose wolf was behind me. I could sense its aura. It didn’t take a genius to figure out why Maxwell was so cowed. I heard the sounds of bones cracking and adjusting, the sounds of low steady footsteps approaching, and then the sound of a voice booming loudly “Shift both of you, NOW.”
The Alpha tone, unfortunately, worked on me, perhaps because it was coming from my father. Hades lowered his head, giving me back control, disappointed he didn’t get to have more fun. My bones made loud cracking noises as I transformed back into my human form, Maxwell doing the same, his hand clutching his side, a pained look on his face. My father looked between the two of us, a furious expression on his face.
“Explain what the hell is going on” he roared “I came out here to see both of you going at each other as if you were in a real fight to the death. Maxwell, I’m extremely surprised to see you fighting my son like this. What do you have to say for yourself?”
Maxwell hesitated. “Alpha John,” he said, licking his lips nervously “The young Alpha and I were merely training” he laughed nervously, his heart racing loudly in his chest.
“That didn’t look like training to me. Are you both having a disagreement of some sort?” My father asked suspiciously.
I shook my head, narrowing my eyes at Maxwell who took his cue from me and did the same. My father put his hands on his hips, glowering at the both of us. “I expect better behavior from my Beta and from my son” he snarled “Maxwell and Grant, I want you both to shake hands and show that there are no bad feelings.”
f*****g fantastic. I approached Maxwell, my eyes narrowed on his face. He held out his hand to me, a grave expression on his face. I came in close and grabbed his hand so tight that I heard his bones slightly crunch as Maxwell winced, my back hiding it from the view of my father. “I know you’ve been following me” I murmured, quiet enough my father couldn’t hear it “Call off your men, or else the next time we have a so-called training session I’ll kill you” I continued lightly. “You have no idea who you’re dealing with” Maxwell snapped as I let go of his hand, his eyes piercing as he stared at me. “You underestimate me. Consider this a warning Maxwell” I sneered.
I turned and walked back to my father who looked confused. He gave a heavy sigh and then glanced over at Maxwell. ” You should go and get those injuries looked at Maxwell, Some of those scratches are pretty deep” he shouted, and Maxwell grunted, staggering as he walked away without a backward glance.
“Want to tell me what that was all about? Or why you spent the night in the guest room instead of with your chosen mate?” my father asked quietly.
“I can’t tell you, not just yet” I exhaled “but I do need to do something, and I think you should know. I need to summon the elders or council as you like to call it.”
My father stopped in his tracks. “The council is only ever summoned in the most dire of circumstances and when it’s believed that a pack member has done a crime not only highly illegal but highly immoral as well. Do you have reason to believe this and proof?” he asked with his eyes searching mine.
“Yes, father. All will come clear when they arrive but for now, I need to keep this to myself. I can’t have the person getting wind of the council’s arrival or running before they get here.”
He nodded and began to walk back towards the pack house, a thoughtful look on his face “Then we’ll keep it a secret between the two of us. Never fear, not even your mother will know” he said in a hushed voice. “But Grant, be careful, if the person discovers what you have done, they might prove to be dangerous and violent in an effort to escape the punishment that awaits them” he warned “You would be surprised at the lengths people will go to, when they find themselves backed into a corner, even when it’s of their own making.”
