                    Alpha Blaze POV
I stared at my mate blankly, struggling to comprehend her words, watching her bite her lip with anxiety washing over her in waves. What had she just told me? My mind was like a sieve. Lucifer growled, becoming highly impatient with my procrastinating.
Asshole she just told us we’re about to become fathers. She’s having our pup! One of our swimmers made it! Damn, we must be highly fertile he boasted, thrusting out his chest and trotting back and forth, pleased with himself.
I choked I know, I’m just shocked. Give me a minute to digest it. I wasn’t expecting this type of news. I thought it would maybe, I don’t know I said lamely take a few tries at least. I didn’t think it would happen her first time.
That’s how good my sperm production is Lucifer said cockily as I blanched at this rate she’ll be pregnant
twenty-four-seven with our pups. Don’t you just love babies he said enthusiastically, his tail wagging triumphantly. I bet its wolf will look like me. Oh, I can’t wait.
It was a very proud moment for a wolf when his mate became pregnant. Lucifer was going to be bragging about it for a long, long time. I sighed and then realized that my mate was looking tearful and that her friends were looking like they were about to cold c**k me. I had been quiet for far too long and they were not taking my silence as a good sign.
“Jordan,” I said quietly, reaching out and grasping her hand “Forgive me, the news was a little unexpected” I admitted “But that doesn’t mean I’m not thrilled about it” I added as she began to smile at me, tentatively. There was relief on her face. God’s above, I would do anything to see her smile. “I just need time to get used to the idea of being a father. But I do like children” I said warmly, “and I very much like the idea of being a dad.” In fact, I felt awestruck at that moment as I thought about holding a miniature daughter or son in my arms.
She exhaled. I pulled her in for a hug, embracing her tightly, inhaling her scent as her body relaxed against me. I yawned. Sorry” I apologized “I spent all night driving here and haven’t slept” I added, my eyes bleary.
She looked worried now. Her friend spoke up. “I’m Alpha Jaxon and this is my Beta, Alex,” he said smoothly “Jordan’s best friends” he said pointedly.
“I’m leaving” Grant muttered and then shot me a black look “You harm her, in any way, I’m coming for you, you bastard, you hear me” he threatened and then walked out dejectedly.
Jordan looked at the back of him, sympathy shining in her eyes. “Poor Grant,” she said sadly “I feel sorry for him.” “Don’t” I said smarmily “At some stage, I’d love to hear why you rejected him but I suspect you had good reason to” I added kissing her forehead and watching her close her eyes with a sigh. I glanced at Jaxon and Alex.
“I am appreciative that Jordan has such good friends to take care of her,” I said sincerely and protectively. Jaxon gave a low grunt. “What are your intentions now? What do you plan on doing?” he demanded.
I gave Jordan a long considering look. She looked at me, nibbling on a fingernail and looking nervous. Gods it was adorable. “I would really like to take Jordan back to my pack so that we can properly get acquainted with each other. I know that can seem frightening” I added, remembering that she had had to claim sanctuary for being abused, rage flashing through me at the very notion of it “but I promise you we’ll take it slow and you can call your friends at any time, night or day. I won’t restrict you from doing anything, I swear” I promised her.
I would give her the moon if she asked. Anything she wanted; it was hers. All she had to do was ask.
She still looked apprehensive, glancing at Jaxon who stared at her mutely. Finally, he cleared his throat. “Why don’t you come and spend the night at my pack” he suggested “It would give Jordan time to pack her things, which is at my place anyway, and allow you to get some rest. To be honest, there’s no f*****g way I’m letting you drive anywhere with her looking like you’re about to fall asleep at any minute.”
I admired his bluntness and honesty. I could have taken him out or fought him but Jordan was nodding her agreement and I hated to deny her anything. Besides, what Jaxon was suggesting was perfectly logical. It wasn’t an unreasonable request. If it would make my mate more comfortable, then why wouldn’t I do it? Thomas would have everything well in hand. I gave a nonchalant shrug, watching my mate’s eyes light up in excitement at the prospect of me staying there.
“I agree. I would be honored to spend the night at your pack Alpha Jaxon” I said cordially inclining my head at him. “Oh Blaze, thank you,” Jordan said, leaning into me “I really appreciate this. I was scared that you would make me go without giving me time to say goodbye to Jaxon and Alex and his family” she murmured as I rubbed her back soothingly.
“There is no rush,” I told her, “what matters is that you don’t fear me and that you trust me. Now I am more than ready to leave, should I take my car or should I just go with you?” I asked.
“Yeah, um, in our car,” Jaxon said cheerfully “Jordan would be really upset if you had an accident on the way because you were so tired. Although I suspect Grant wouldn’t be judging by the way he was glaring at you, boy is he pissed” he chuckled “I would watch my back if I were you” he advised me as we began to file out of the house, heading for the large dark SUV parked next to mine.
I doubted Grant would be capable of even minorly hurting me but I gave a small nod of acknowledgment, taking his words under advisement.
I paused for a moment to grab my suitcase and place it into the boot of Jaxon’s car, before climbing into the backseat of Jaxon’s car and buckling myself up next to Jordan. Jaxon smirked from the driver’s side, taking a moment to hold Alex’s hand as I almost face-palmed myself. Jaxon and Alex were mates, I realized with a groan. God, I was an i***t. It was so bloody obvious. Here I’d been acting like a jealous Alpha male and Jaxon was gay! Oh my god. It was so humiliating. Why hadn’t he just said something instead of letting me act like that? I seethed. Bastard had enjoyed winding me up, I thought grimacing. I had made it easy for him.
“Now keep your hands to yourself,” Jaxon said perkily as he started the engine “I can see everything in the mirror” he warned.
What was he going to do? It’s not like he could slam the brakes I thought with a smirk of my own. Not while Jordan was pregnant. I pulled Jordan so that her head rested against my chest.
“It’s only a short drive to Jaxon’s pack” she whispered as Jaxon pulled out of the driveway “But you’ll love it. His mother and father are so nice,” she said enthusiastically “and the pack is so welcoming.”
She sounded so deliriously happy when she spoke about it.
“Jaxon what’s the name of your pack?” I asked with interest and genuine curiosity.
He glanced at me through the rearview mirror and frowned. “The Full Moon Pack,” he said calmly, changing lanes “Why?” “No reason” I murmured, wracking my brains and wondering if I had a treaty with his pack. If not, it might prove invaluable to seek one, especially seeing as Jordan was friends with him. I resolved to find out when I got back.
Jaxon looked slightly nervous now. Alex looked completely at ease. “So how long have you been mates?” I asked, noticing the matching marks on their necks.
“Oh, a couple of weeks,” Alex said, looking out the window and watching the scenery, a placid look on his face. He seemed very easygoing going I mused.
“Yet you’ve already marked each other?” I asked a little stunned. Wasn’t it a bit early? How much did they really know about each other?
“When you’ve met the right person you know it instinctively, it doesn’t matter how much time passes,” Alex said with a shrug. He sounded completely blasé about it.
Jaxon nodded his agreement. Jordan gave a smile. I stroked her hair. She snuggled against me. Lucifer purred. My wolf was completely smitten with her.
“A little bit of a warning,” Jaxon said grimly, shooting me another look through the rearview mirror “My mother in particular “he paused as though trying to determine how to best phrase what he was going to say “can be quite peculiar or strange at times” he exhaled “and while I understand that she might not necessarily be everyone’s cup of tea, I happen to adore her and would like it very much if you showed her the same amount of respect and civility you would extend to me” he added.
Wasn’t everybody’s parents a little unique and unusual? Besides, how bad could his mother truly be? Jordan gave a little giggle. “Your mother really isn’t that bad” she chided Jaxon who winced and shook his head “I think you’re over-exaggerating,” she told him in a scolding tone of voice.
“Yeah,” Alex said teasingly “your mother is adorable and has a quirky sense of humour.”
“You say that, but only because you find her funny and hilarious” Jaxon grumbled, turning a corner and beginning to go through some back roads.
“You’ll like her,” Alex told me earnestly “She’s been like a mother to me.”
“Yeah, because you’re the daughter she never got to have. Well at least at the moment until she finds out the gender of the baby she’s carrying” Jaxon said with a laugh.
I relaxed. His family sounded lovely. I had no qualms about meeting them. They appeared to have treated my mate very well and I looked forward to thanking them.
“Can you believe that your mother didn’t notice you’d marked Alex” Jordan said in a disbelieving tone “I thought for sure she would have said something, but she was completely silent at the breakfast table this morning.”
Jaxon chuckled “I thought I was going to keel over and die from the anticipation of waiting for her to say or do something. It was completely unlike her to be so quiet. She must have really been out of it this morning” he mused, going through some gates and past patrol who waved at him cheerfully.
“She was probably distracted. She made your father go out on another donut run this morning because she was craving them” Alex said reasonably.
Jordan giggled. I smiled at the sound of her laughter. It was so musical, so uplifting. It lifted my spirits just hearing it. I loved seeing her so happy. I wanted to make her this happy all the time. Lucifer agreed with me.
He pulled in front of the pack house. I was impressed at how large it was, and how gorgeous the outside was, with Greek columns, white marble, outside flower beds, and wide windows that showed large views of the surrounding forests. I got out of the car and rushed around to Jordan’s side, helping her out, while Jaxon grabbed my suitcase.
“Let me show you to a room,” he said his eyes darting between us “One that is adjoining to Jordans” he added with a glower.
Why was I not surprised? I allowed him to carry my suitcase, he insisted after all and he opened the front door and we all trailed in. The living room was to the side and the house was dark. As we passed the living room by, the light suddenly burst on, the door opened with a bang and a chorus of shouts sounded “Surprise” as Jaxon went white with horror. It took everything I had, to maintain a straight face as we were greeted with something that was obviously very unexpected and quite out of the ordinary, at least in my case. I wasn’t so sure about Jaxon.
