Jordan POV
I was curious as to who this Stefanie girl was and her relationship to Blaze. He looked frustrated and annoyed to discover that she was here and that was enough to put me on guard as Thomas finished speaking. Blaze ran a hand through his hair exasperated and turned to me. “We better go inside and greet her,” he said a little annoyed “before she throws a little hissy fit.”
“Who is she?” I asked as I got up and took his hand, Thomas looking apologetic still, as Blaze began to lead me back to the pack house, regret on his face “Is she important to you?”
He sighed “She’s my younger sister but she’s also a brat. She’s been in Milan on holiday, and I’ve been hoping she’d stay there longer” he growled under his breath “Shame she came back.”
We headed into the living room and stopped in our tracks. Two gorgeous blonde females, teenagers, stood there, dressed to kill in skintight designer dresses, and stilettos, carefully applied makeup, and golden honey skin that could only come from a tanning salon. They were thin, and I was painfully aware of my own body type in comparison to theirs as Blaze’s lips tightened in annoyance.
“Stefanie,” he said evenly, inclining his head and regarding the taller of the two girls who smiled at him “I am surprised to see you came back so soon,”
Such a strange family reunion I thought puzzled. Where was the friendly greeting, the hugs, the welcome back? Neither of them looked all that happy to see each other. Where was the affection, the love? The joy? For siblings, they didn’t look all that close.
The girl laughed. “I got bored. There’s only so much shopping you can do” she said dismissively, her eyes darting to me, while the other girl stepped forward and put her hand on Blaze’s arm as I stood there, trying not to glower at her. Jealousy shot through me. I felt a spurt of possessiveness that shocked me to my core.
“Blaze,” she said softly “it’s been too long.”
Clearly, these two knew each other I fumed. Part of me wanted to bite her but it seemed that would be a slightly childish thing to do. Thomas looked nervously at me, perhaps sensing the anger I was exuding. I wasn’t exactly doing a good job of hiding it. I had never been that good at hiding my emotions.
“Chelsea” Blaze said coughing “Meet my mate Jordan,” he said, tactfully removing her hand from his arm as she looked at him disappointed.
I heard both girls inhale sharply as I smiled politely at them. I didn’t want to get off on the wrong foot but I already instinctively disliked Blaze’s sister, despite her being about the same age as myself. There was something cold and calculating about her. It could be my imagination, but my instincts were screaming at me that she was dangerous and not to get involved with her. I was inclined to listen to my gut. Previous experience had honed my instincts and I knew better than to ignore them.
Stefanie narrowed her eyes and then pursed her lips. She let out a trill of laughter and waved her arm in the air. “Good one brother,” she said with a giggle “Most amusing. You almost had me there” she sneered, like it was some sort of big practical joke.
“I am not joking,” Blaze said stiffly as I stood there dumbfounded at her rudeness “Jordan is my mate.”
He pulled me into his side and wrapped his arm around me. I could see both girls sizing me up. I was looking at Chelsea and comparing myself to her. I suspected that either Blaze and she had dated or she wanted to date him, judging by the look of daggers she threw me. Stefanie just looked incredulous, as though she couldn’t believe what he was saying. Thomas was beginning to look pissed off. He was clenching his jaw and narrowing his eyes at Stefanie, his eyes full of contempt. There was no love lost there, I thought bemusedly.
“Blaze darling, look at her. I mean, talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel” Stefanie drawled, flicking her long blonde platinum hair over her shoulder, her blue eyes staring at me with derision. “I get that you were desperate to find your mate, but as an Alpha, even you should have some sort of standards,” she said coldly.
I felt tears prick my eyes. She hadn’t even met me and she was judging me purely based on my looks. I felt my hands shaking. Part of me was ready to throw myself at her and rip part of her hair out like a bad wrestler move.
“How dare you offend my mate” Blaze hissed, his eyes turning dangerously dark, the mood in the room going black” Stefanie you have gone too far. Apologize now” he ordered.
She curled her lips up in derision. “For what?” she said in a deceptively sugary sweet tone of voice “For speaking the truth? Jordan knows what I’m saying, I can see it in her eyes. She knows that you’re too good for her. You might as well just do her a Favor and reject her before it becomes too painful.”
I could see Blaze fighting for control, his breathing becoming loud and uneven, his hands clenched into fists as he glared at his sister who just smiled at him cattily. She was deliberately riling him up and enjoying it. I feared any second now, he was going to lose control and put her in the dungeon, not that the little b***h didn’t deserve it. But I also respected the fact that he was holding onto his temper, despite her best efforts to try and get him to lose it. She clearly thrived on getting him to lose control.
Thomas spoke up, his voice one of amusement. “Jealous are we” he said lightly, coming to my side, his eyes twinkling with mirth.
Stefanie looked confused now and flustered. She gaped at Thomas. “Jealous” she scoffed, finally regaining her composure “What on earth do I have to be jealous of?” she sounded absolutely mortified by the very idea.
Chelsea remained silent, wringing her hands together and looking slightly embarrassed now. At least she had the good sense not to piss Blaze off any more than he already was.
To be honest I was confused by Thomas’s remark as well. If anything, I was the jealous one. I would have given anything to have a figure like Stefanie’s. She looked perfect, with no blemishes, her stomach nice and flat. She could have easily been a model. Not like me. I felt like a beached whale in comparison. Or maybe a seal. At least seals were cute as well as fat.
“Well let’s see” Thomas mused, walking and turning so that he was standing between Stefanie and me, his gaze raking over me, a thoughtful expression on his face as well as a mischievous glint in his eyes as Blaze stared at him, his jaw tightening.
He pointed at my breasts. “Let’s start with her breasts. They are large, round, and perky. The perfect size to hold in one’s hands. Now let’s compare them to yours” he said to Stefanie who gaped at him as he pointed at hers “You have a flat chest that resembles that of an adolescent yet to go through puberty.”
Ouch. That seemed to have hit a nerve as Stefanie glared at him, her cheeks flushing red, Chelsea giggling silently in the background. But Thomas wasn’t finished yet. Not by a long shot. He continued to be ruthless in his comparison.
“Her eyes are a dark chocolate brown, an interesting color that goes well with the darkness of her hair, which I wager is her natural hair color. Your eyes are a boring blue that looks average and your hair is a perfect blonde color that can only be achieved from the dye of a hair color box” he said bluntly.
Whoa, he was throwing down some serious shade and wasn’t holding back. My tears were fading fast as I listened to him in awe, Blaze calming down now as his sister seemed speechless, her mouth gaping open and shut as she was forced to listen to Thomas point out all her flaws while complimenting me at the same time.
“Jordan’s skin is a lovely porcelain complexion with the merest hint of a sun-kissed golden glow that looks healthy and natural. You on the other hand have tanned skin that is almost orange in shade and quite frankly resembles that of a faded oom-pah Loompa” he said icily.
Oh my god, did he just use Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a reference? Thomas was officially my new hero. My shoulders were shaking with the effort of keeping my laughter in. I swear I heard Chelsea snort in the background. Blade’s face was contorted with the effort of keeping his face serious as he stared at his Beta tearing his sister to shreds. I couldn’t help but notice that he refused to step in and help her though.
“Or could it be that you’re jealous that she’s got more junk in the trunk” he mused, deliberately leaning over and looking at my backside appreciatively as Blaze let out a low growl in warning “That is just so perfect for someone to be able to squeeze and hold. While yours” he paused and leaned over looking at Stefanie’s flat ass and shaking his head in dismay ” is nowhere to be found. Your whole body is as flat as an ironing board” he said unkindly “in fact if we stuck you in the cleaning supplies cupboard, I doubt anybody would notice the difference.”
Stunned silence. “If I had to pick, I would pick Jordan with no hesitation. She has the curves of a goddess and the body that makes a man desperate to see what’s underneath her clothes, whereas you leave nothing to the imagination.”
Whoa. I blushed. Stefanie looked at a loss for words. Blaze glowered at his Beta who gave a nonchalant shrug. “Thank you for that riveting speech, Thomas” he spat out and his Beta gave me a wink.
“I was merely stating facts Alpha Blaze,” he said breezily.
I admired his bravery in the face of Blaze’s anger. If looks could kill, Thomas would be dead by now.
God, it hurt so bad not to laugh. The expression on Blaze’s face was comical. Stefanie’s eyes shone and then to everyone’s surprise she began to sob. “I can’t believe you let him speak to me like that” she wailed pathetically, stamping her foot like a petulant child throwing a temper tantrum.
Blaze snorted. “You shamed my Luna, so he did the same to you. Be thankful I’m not throwing your ass in the dungeon. Now get the hell out of my sight” he roared, finally losing control.
I didn’t blame him.
She flinched and then took off crying, her heels clacking loudly on the floor, Chelsea reluctantly following her and glancing over her shoulder apologetically.
I laughed, till I cried, clutching my stomach. “Oh Thomas, I think I’m in love with you” I joked, as he grinned. “But I think you may have gone a tad bit overboard” I wheezed.
“Nonsense,” he said teasingly, even as Blaze growled in warning “I merely stated my beliefs” he added cockily as my eyes widened.
“About that” Blaze growled, and Thomas’s eyes widened in comprehension before he shifted and began to run, heading right out of the front door which was conveniently wide open.
“I’ll be right back” Blaze hissed, running out the front door and shifting into the most beautiful black wolf I had ever seen, chasing Thomas’s silver wolf as I watched wide-eyed.
I doubled over, laughing hysterically. It was hilarious. Blaze was clearly pissed at what Thomas had said about me. Oh boy, I thought with a giggle, something told me that life at the Crimson River Pack definitely wasn’t going to be dull and boring like I had imagined. Thomas’s comments had given me something to think about and as I waited for Blaze, I couldn’t help but think that maybe, I was being far too critical of my body and not giving it the appreciation and love that it truly deserved.
