                    Jordan POV
I cautiously approached the study, peering inside. Thomas, leaning casually against the wall, noticed me first, giving me a grin and a wink as I fought back a giggle. I quietly came into the room and Blaze blinked, his nostrils flaring as he smelt my scent and a look of shock came over his face as his head popped up from peering down at the laptop.
“Oh my god,” he said sounding horrified “Is it that time already?” he was frantically looking down at his wristwatch in dismay.
I laughed. As I’d anticipated he’d lost track of the time as he’d gotten involved in pack business. I’d spent the morning sleeping in, getting ready, having a leisurely breakfast, and then sitting out in the gazebo reading before having a light lunch.
I’d grown comfortable over the last few days, except for the fact that Stefanie either ignored my existence or continued to snub me intentionally. I tried not to let it get to me. She was just being an immature brat I thought, but it stung a little. Blaze’s love and affection more than made up for it though.
“I thought you might forget the time so I thought I would come and get you,” I said with a wide smile as he gave me an apologetic glance.
“I can’t believe I almost forgot such an important appointment” Blaze murmured, hastily closing the laptop and getting to his feet, smoothing down his clothes, and then coming around the desk and reaching for me.
He gave me a long kiss that left me breathless and swaying on my feet. Thomas cleared his throat. “Oh is that today?” he asked with interest “Well I hope it all goes well” he added cheerfully.
“Thank you,” I said beaming “By the way has Stefanie spoken to you since you um made fun of her?” I asked delicately. “Nope, and it’s been utter bliss,” he said with a content look on his face as I giggled “I dread the day she begins to speak to me again and all my peace and serenity is interrupted once more.”
Blaze just sighed. Stefanie wasn’t really speaking to him much either, but I had noticed Chelsea trying to cozy up to him on numerous occasions. He always removed her hand from his person or spoke to her respectfully, but it irked me. She didn’t need to stand so close to him or thrust her chest forward to show him her cleavage. I had to constantly force my jealousy back for fear I would say or do something I would regret. Still, I didn’t see why Chelsea was still here. Couldn’t she just go back to her own pack?
Blaze took my hand in his rough callused one, gently stroking mine, and tugged me towards the door. “Come on,” he said, his eyes twinkling, rubbing his stubble with his other hand as I stared at him dreamily, once more reminded of how handsome he was “It’s a nice walk to the hospital,” he said and together we walked down the numerous hallways and out the front door. I inhaled the fresh air gratefully, feeling the warmth of the sun on my face and the gentleness of the breeze as it flew through my hair. It was a gorgeous day and I greeted pack members with a wave and a hello as we passed them. They were all so friendly and nice, taking time to ask about me or Blaze or merely waving back as we passed. “So how are you feeling?” asked Blaze.
I bit my lip. Anxious, nervous, scared, terrified, intimidated, and overwhelmed I wanted to shout. Instead, I gave him a sheepish look. “Really nervous,” I said underplaying it a little.
My hand swept to my stomach and rubbed it slightly, Blaze’s eyes dipping to it, a small smile curving on his face.
“I am too” he admitted, “but I’m even more frightened at what Stefanie’s reaction is going to be when she finds out,” he said grimly as I frowned, confused.
“Why?” I asked. What business was it of hers?
He sighed. “She’s always disapproved of any girl I’ve dated. For some strange reason, she’s under some delusion that Chelsea and I would be perfect for each other. I’ve told her I’m not attracted to Chelsea in that way but she doesn’t seem to hear me. When I tell her about the baby, she’s finally going to have to face the fact that you and I are together forever and she’s going to have to give up her dream of me and her best friend getting together.”
Was the man oblivious or just plain stupid I fumed. It wasn’t just Stefanie who thought they should get together. With the way Chelsea was flirting with him nonstop, it was evident that she was trying to get with him as well! Why hadn’t he said anything until now? Probably because he knew you would flip your lid, I thought seething. I bit the inside of my lip. Do not lose your temper now Jordan, I told myself sternly. You are about to have an important appointment that means a lot to you. Don’t spoil the mood. But if looks could kill, Blaze would be a walking inferno by now.
The hospital loomed ahead. It was a nondescript morose-looking grey building with two stories and large doors that led to an emergency room. We walked inside and were immediately approached by a doctor. She was lovely, with dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and a bright smile that lit up her whole face. She beamed at the both of us. “Alpha Blaze and Luna Jordan” she exclaimed grinning “How lovely to see you. I take it that you are here for your ultrasound. I can see that it was put on the schedule.”
I instantly liked her. I glanced at her name badge and it read Dr. Stacey. “Yes we are here for an ultrasound,” I said apprehensively “We might be a little early” I added glancing at the time.
She laughed. “Better early than late,” she said cheerfully “Besides,” she said in a dramatic whisper, putting her hand to her mouth “You’re the alpha, and Luna, it’s not like we’re going to complain” she joked.
I giggled. She winked at me. “If you’ll follow me, I’ll escort you to your luxury hospital room” she teased, leading the way down several hallways.
She had lifted my spirits with her cheerful demeanor. I walked behind her and followed her into a hospital room. Blaze was behind me. She patted the bed. “If you’ll just get your tooshie on the bed and pull your shirt up underneath those rather envious breasts of yours and pull your pants below your hips” she instructed me.
I did as she instructed, giggling. Blaze was smirking. The doctor hummed under her breath as she began to plug the ultrasound machine into the wall and get the probe ready. She placed the gel on and then gave me a wide smile. “Now I’m not going to lie this gel is as cold as hell freezing over,” she said, placing it on my stomach and hearing me gasp “But it will warm up in a moment” she finished.
She began to move the probe over my slightly extended stomach, the monitor flicking to life. Blaze and I stared at the screen fascinated. “I’m just going to measure everything so that I can determine how far along you are” she murmured” and make sure it is not freakishly tall or something like the Alpha over here” she added as I giggled again, Blaze looking highly offended.
“I’m not that tall” Blaze whispered with a growl “It’s just that Alpha’s are always larger than other shifters” he added.
I ignored him. He sounded so put out. I was more interested in the screen as Dr. Stacey began to measure the various organs and limbs.
“Your baby is utterly gorgeous” she murmured, peering intently at the baby which was wriggling on the screen and now more focused so we could see it clearly. I stared at the image in awe, a tear coming to my eye. “I think it takes after you Jordan,” she said cheerfully.
“What do you mean by that?” Blaze asked injured.
She smirked. “Oh, nothing Alpha Blaze,” she said with a raised eyebrow “Nothing at all.”
“Well, it looks like you are about three months along, or 12 weeks if you want to be more exact. Are you still experiencing morning sickness?” she asked.
I groaned and nodded. It came and went. I don’t know why they called it morning sickness when it seemed to come at various times of the day. It was false advertising I thought grumpily. It should definitely be labeled as something else.
She smiled at me sympathetically. “Well don’t fret. That should be stopping any day now. In fact, it’s relatively rare for it to last this long for a shifter” she said, “considering that our pregnancies only last six months.”
“Is it because I don’t have a wolf?” I asked “Could that mean I’m more human than shifter? Oh god” I said with sudden horror “am I going to have a longer pregnancy because of it.”
She held up a hand and laughed. “Alright, first things first, calm down. The baby is developing at an appropriate rate for a shifter, not a human pregnancy. So don’t worry about that. The morning sickness thing is rare but not unheard of” she said assuring me.
I relaxed slightly. She moved the probe some more, a look of utmost concentration on her face. “Would you like to learn the gender?” she asked curiously “Some shifters like to keep it a surprise, so I don’t want to accidentally let it slip.”
“I can’t wait that long” Blaze cried; his expression comical as he turned to me “It would be pure torture to have to wait to find out.”
Just for that I seriously considered making him. It would serve him right for not getting rid of Chelsea, I thought wickedly. But I’d be cutting off my nose to spite my face. I really wanted to know what I was having and I was not a very patient person when it came to waiting. I gave a sigh and pretended to think it over as Blaze’s face fell, his shoulders slumping slightly.
“Alright,” I said, Blaze cheering back up “I want to learn the gender,” I told Dr. Stacey excitedly “Are we having a boy or a girl?”
“Do you have a preference?”
I shook my head. “I just want them to be healthy,” I said sincerely.
She looked at me approvingly. Blaze was practically bouncing up and down on his feet, anticipation on his face. She pushed slightly harder on the probe and then a wide smile appeared on her face. She pulled the probe off and wiped it with a paper towel, handing me some which I used to wipe myself up with and then I pulled my shirt down and my pants up, sitting up with Blaze’s help.
“Well?” I asked, breathing nervously, and fidgeting with my hands.
She put the probe away and unplugged the machine, wheeling it back to the corner of the room, and then returned, deliberately delaying as we waited on tenterhooks. She put her hands together and then gave us a winning smile.” Congratulations,” she said warmly “You’re having a darling little baby” She paused and I almost screamed in frustration before she finished “Girl. A daughter. I wish you all the best Alpha Blaze and Luna Jordan and congratulate you on your family.”
She sailed out of the room as I burst into tears feeling emotionally wrung out. I was going to have a baby girl and judging by the way that Blaze’s eyes were shining, I suspected he was feeling just as emotional and close to tears himself.
