HAZEL'S POV
FUCK! is it morning already? I asked myself. I stretched my hands above my head as I yawned. I slept comfortably last night. Isis' potion helped to keep my premonitions of Harper at bay, but I couldn't help but miss seeing her face. I rolled over to my side and felt for Zander, but he was not there. His side of the bed was cold, so I knew he didn't come to bed last night.
'Zander, where are you?' I asked him through the mind-link.
'Good morning Kitten. I'm in the sitting room, I was just about to come and get you. Someone is here to see you,’ he mentioned.
'Who?' I wondered.
'Come and see for yourself. And I am so sorry I didn't come to bed last night. I got lost in Alpha business,’ he apologized and my heart smiled.
'It's ok, I understand. I'll see you in a couple of minutes. I need to freshen up first.'
'Ok, see you soon. I love you, Kitten.'
'I love you too Zander.'
I wondered who had come to see me at 5:35 in the morning.
I went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, and then took a quick shower.
After I got dressed. I hurried downstairs to learn who my mystery guest was.
With each stride I took downstairs, the distinctive essence of Chanel No.5 limited edition, pervaded my nostrils. It was intense, and I knew I was still too far away from the contemporary room to be encountering the aroma. I must have been sensing what Zander was smelling because of our bond.
There was no more guessing game, I knew exactly who my visitor was. As I stepped into the living area, I saw her sitting on the black letter sectional; she had her legs crossed at the ankles, teacup in hand, sipping her tea delicately with her pinky finger high in the air.
"Aunt Jules," I beamed. "What are you doing here?" I hurried by her side; plopping down on the couch next to her like a child who longed to see their mommy.
She placed the cup and saucer on the small coffee table in front of her, then she turned to face me. "Can't I come visit my favourite girl?" She used her thumb to caress the side of my face. "I missed you, Hazel," she leant in and encased me in her arms.
"I missed you too, aunty," I squeezed her tightly as she rubbed my back then I pulled away from her embrace. I sensed something was wrong. "Is everything alright? You seem a little tense."
"Your instincts are maturing. I can sense your powers strengthening - both your powers," aunt's eyes settled on Zander when she said the last part.
"Yes, it is Julia," Zander spoke. "I can smell your pain, what's wrong?"
"Her pain?" I gasped. It was then I noticed the puffiness in her face and the bags under her eyes. "Aunt Jules, have you been crying?" I took her hand between my palms.
She looked up at Zander, and he read her expression. "I'll give you two a moment alone," he stepped over to us, and he placed a chaste kiss on my lips, then he gave aunt Jule's a gentle pat on her shoulder before he left the room.
"Tell me what's wrong, aunty. Did something happen to uncle Abe?"
She pulled her hand from mine and stood to her feet. She walked over to the table with the arrays of liquor. She grabbed one of the glasses from the shelf next to it and poured herself some brandy. She gulped down the content in one go. "Woah!" She whispered as the liquor burnt its way down her throat. She refilled the glass and repeated. Droplets of the alcohol escaped from the sides of her mouth, running down her chin and wetting the front of her burgundy suit. I had never seen my aunt behaving so unladylike.
"Ok, now you're scaring me. Tell me what's going on," I pleaded.
She placed the glass on the table and walked up to the wall. She placed her palms flat against the surface while resting her forehead against the wall. "We're getting a divorce," she whispered almost inaudible.
"What? Why would you say such a thing?" I shouted angrily.
"Because it's true, Abraham and I are getting a divorce," she spun around on her black 12-inch red bottom pumps. She stared right in my eyes. "It's over between us," her voice trembled as she spoke. Tears cascaded down her cheeks.
I raced over to her and held her while she cried. "But you two are soulmates. Maybe you guys can fix whatever went wrong," I tried to talk reason to Jules.
She walked us back to the couch, and we sat down. "I'm afraid it can't be fixed, sweet girl. He broke my heart. He betrayed me in the worst way imaginable," she dried her tears with a handkerchief as I wiped mine with the rear of my hand. "He knew how badly I wanted children. We've gone to many doctors, and I've tried many magical ways too and nothing. When I talked to him about adopting he said we already had you so we had our hands full. Now I find out that he fathered two children with two different women."
"Fuck! Are you serious, aunty? Uncle Abe - Pastor Abraham Campbell, Mr. Christianity himself, stepped out on his wife? I don't believe it," I scoffed.
"I was shocked too when one of the female's phoned me. He fathers a seven-month-old with her. Apparently, she called me to tell me he's hers, and I should leave her man alone. The audacity she had, calling me an old barren woman. I was so furious, I thought someone was playing a prank on me. I confronted Abraham, and he confessed it to be true, then he told me about the four-year-old he shared with a woman in Kansas."
