                    HAZEL'S POV
"Aunt, why didn't you read his mind?" I wanted to know why she didn't use her powers to keep tabs on him.
"He is my husband, and I trusted him. I never felt I would need to use my abilities on him. Sometimes he would give off a certain emotion I described as regret, but I always thought it to be associated with problems of the church."
"I am so sorry, aunty. You can stay here as long as you like."
"Thank you, my dear, but I think I'll be staying at Crescent Drive. I stopped by the cabin before I came here. I dropped my luggage there, and I found this in the kitchen," she handed me a small purple box, wrapped in a pretty gold bow.
"What's this?"
"I don't know, but I assume you know who it's from."
"Dimitri. He said he left me a birthday gift."
I ran my hands over the box, then I opened it. There was a gorgeous gold necklace with a large purple pendant. "It is lovely," aunty added as she studied the design.
"Yes, it is, but I cannot accept this. I will give it back to him."
Zander walked back into the room. "Is everything alright? Hazel, I felt your distress a second ago."
I quickly hid the necklace beneath the cushion.
"I'm glad you're here, Zander. I actually have some important news to share with you both," aunt Jules quickly announced.
"Ok Julia, go ahead," Zander told her.
"Well, Hazel. My divorce is not why I'm here," she sighed.
"Divorce?" Zander inquired.
"I'll tell you about it later, babe," I told him.
"Well, I had a dream, it was of Lucinda."
"What? You dreamt of mom?"
"Yes. In the past 19 years, I had never had a dream of her before. She sent me a message. She informed me I will need to accompany you on your voyage - if that makes sense."
"Julia, we are planning on going on a critical journey. It will be dangerous," Zander said as he explained the reasons for our travels.
"Hazel, are you feeling better now - why didn't you inform me of your condition?" Aunt said worriedly.
"I'm fine, Aunty. I'm just glad you're here."
"Me too. When do we leave?" She asked.
"In two hours. I have a meeting with my pack. I will decide who I should take with us."
"Ok. I will head back to the cabin and get ready. I'll meet you guys here in an hour." Aunty kissed my cheeks before she left.
"Kitten, you seem like you need to catch your breath. Meet me in the grand hall in 10 minutes."
"Ok."
I grabbed the necklace and I examined it some more.
What the fuck was Dimitri thinking?
I know, he probably thought he could get a piece of my pussy by giving me jewellery.
"Bastard," I cursed under my breath.
"Hello to you too love," the front door pushed open revealing none other than Dimitri.
"Oh, great. Just the vampire I wanted to see," I rolled my eyes sarcastically. "Care to explain?" I held the pendant up to his face.
"Ah! You finally opened my gift. Do you like it?" He asked smugly.
"No, I hate it." I threw it in his face and he caught it.
"Don't lie to me, love. I can tell you like it," he strolled up to me. "I was so worried about you when I learnt you were ill. But I now see from your hostile attitude, that you're back to your old feisty self again," he chuckled.
"Kiss my ass, Dimitri."
"Is that a request, love?" He licked his lips and smirked.
"Urgg, you make me - you make me soooooo," I pulled on my hair out of anger. I could feel my blood boiling. I hated that Dimitri didn't seem to respect my relationship with Zander. He was always trying to test my commitment to my mate.
"I make you so what - hot?" He questioned.
"I hate you Dimitri Winterbourne." I felt my rage growing, I wanted to burn him.
"Hazel, your hands, they're on fire," he answered as he backed away from me.
"What's going on?" I heard Zander behind me. "Kitten, why are you so angry?" But then he looked up and met Dimitri's gaze. "Oh, I see. But you have to calm down. Remember what Isis said; you need to try to keep your emotions under control until we get to queen Magdalena."
"What about Magdalena?" Dimitri asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I'll tell you all about it later. But first, you need a shower, you smell like death," Zander sniffed the air.
"And shit, he also smells like shit," Carson made his entrance.
"Oh, if it isn't the big bad beta," Dimitri said dryly.
"Alpha, everyone is gathered in the grand hall," Carson declared.
The three of us followed him.
Declan, Duncan, and Allen were resting against the wall to the back. All three of them had shot glasses in their hands.
Topher and Talon were relaxing around the table, while Timothy and Aaron were sitting on the brown couch by the window.
"Where are the others?" I questioned as I noticed Gerry, Rollo, Isabelle, Gabrielle, Cleopatra, Chastity, Ingrid, Isis, Ushi and my dad were not in the room.
"A few of the pack kids fell sick, so Izzy has to stay behind to take care of them, and Ingrid and Gabrielle are watching Polly, CJ and Alvin," Carson explained.
"Gerard, Chastity, and Cleopatra have an important mission to carry out tonight," Zander added. "And Rollo - he's on his way back here from the White Tree Coven. He mind-linked me, saying he's around an hour away." Zander's voice sounded strained.
"There you guys are," Isis announced as she made her way in along with Ushi and my father.
"Dad," I beamed as I jumped in his arms.
"Hello, Sunshine. I'm glad you're feeling better. You gave your old man quite the scare there," he sighed.
"Now I demand everyone's attention," Zander boomed. "We're about to embark on a very dangerous journey, which I will require five of you to accompany, Hazel, Isis, Hazel's aunty Julia and me. So do I have any volunteers?"
Everyone's hands went up in the air, except for Dimitri's.
