HAZEL'S POV
"We can't take all of you guys with us," I sighed.
"Your Luna's right. I only need five persons," Zander snarled.
"How about a raffle," Carson suggested. "I'll write the names of everyone present, drop them in a bowl, and you can choose from that, Alpha."
"Good idea, Carson. But you're not coming," Zander snapped.
"Why not? I am tougher than all these assholes combined. You'll need me, man."
The other wolves began to mumble at what Carson said.
"I'll need you to stay here and look after the pack while I'm gone."
"This is bullshit," Carson whined. I knew he wanted to be close to Zander because of their little argument the other night. Carson just needed Zander to forgive him.
"Zander, at least give him a chance. Carson is one of our best fighters, and you said the road ahead will be dangerous," I coaxed Zander.
"Ok. But Caron if your name is drawn then Duncan must stay behind and if Duncan's name gets picked first, then you must remain behind."
They agreed. Carson wrote down everyone's names and placed them in a bowl. "Here you go, Alpha," he handed it over to Zander.
Zander stirred the bowl with his fingers, and then he pulled his first name. "The first person is Dimitri."
"Waste of paper and ink. It's not like I would have stayed behind if my name wasn't selected," Dimitri winked at me.
Asshole! I thought to myself.
'Agreed,' Zander chuckled through the mind-link. He dipped his hand in the bowl and plucked another name. "James," he called out and dad nodded his head. "The next name is, Carson."
"OH YES! YES! YES! YES! TAKE THAT DUNCAN," Carson shouted. Duncan flipped him the finger. "IN YOUR FACE, LOSER!"
"Guys, behave," I warned.
"Sorry, Luna," they said in unison.
"Declan," Zander called the fourth name. "And lastly we have, WHAT THE FUCK?" Zander screamed.
"What is it?" I asked. Zander shoved the paper into my hands. "Carson," I read the name. "Carson Danvers, you didn't? You wrote your name twice," I sighed.
"That's not fair. I think I should go in Carson's place," Duncan snapped.
"I don't think so, ginger pup, you'll stay here and protect the ladies and the kids," Carson laughed.
"You both will shut the fuck up now," Zander spoke softly, but his voice was so chilling I noticed even Dimitri gulped. Everyone fell silent. "Carson will accompany us. I do not have time for all these childish games," Zander pulled another name from the bowl. "The last name is, Ushi."
"Oh man," I picked up the twins whining. "Again we're sitting out the action."
Zander hurried out the room along with Isis and my dad. I heard them greeting aunt Jules at the front door.
Duncan came and picked up the bowl with the rest of the names, and he examined them. "I knew it. The fucker didn't write my name down. Instead, he wrote his name 5 fucking times. Carson, you're a dick."
"Carson, you are such a sneak," I giggled. "We have an hour before we leave. I suggest you guys pack the necessities and bid your loved one's farewell," I instructed them.
They all filed out of the room, leaving Dimitri and me.
"We are alone, again. Why are the Gods always placing us in such predicaments?" He took the pendant out of his pocket. It looked different, it was glowing red instead of purple.
"How - how did you do that?" I questioned in shock.
"How did I do that? This necklace has been in my family for centuries, and I've never seen it change colours before. So, the question is, Hazel, what the hell did you do?"
"I did nothing, I swear. All I did was open the box and look at it."
"Do you know the story behind this pendant?"
"No, but something tells me you're gonna tell me."
"Thousands of years ago, a female ancestor of mine did something that was frowned upon in those days. She took someone who was not a vampire as her partner. He was a wizard, and he lost his life after her family found out about their union. She was with child, but she hid the fact from her family. Thanks to the fairy queen, they cast an irreversible cloaking spell after giving up the baby for adoption. It was for the baby's protection. She knew if her family found out they would have had the abomination, as they called it killed. Years later she discovered her true mate, a vampire, like herself. Together they parented many children, but her heart longed for her firstborn. Her mate couldn't bear to see her in pain, so he took her to a witch. The witch tried to break the cloak but failed miserably. She later cast a spell using very ancient and forbidden magic. She conjured up this stone that was apart of Hectate's crown, and she made this pendant. The witch told my ancestor that the purple stone would burn crimson when it was in the presence of her blood, but it never did until now."
"So are you saying, I'm this long last child? Because you might have forgotten, I'm only 19 years old."
"No, love. I'm suggesting I think you have Vampire blood running through your veins."
"Woah! So are you claiming we're related?"
"As strange as this may seem. I think we are. That would explain why I am so drawn to you. I mistook the feelings for sexual attraction, but sometimes I misread things, but it all makes sense now. I do have a mate and I would choose Zoey every time."
That was good to know.
"So what you are saying, that we may be cousins?"
"Well, distant cousins."
"Jesus fucking Christ! I may have made out with my cousin."
"Well, if it makes you feel any better. Incest was okay back in my time."
"I think am gonna be sick. Excuse me."
I heard Dimitri laughing hard as he strolled behind me.
I have vampire blood, plus Dimitri could be my fucking cousin. 'Oh! lord! I'm going to hell.'
'Kitten, did you just say you're related to Dimitri?'
FUCK MY LIFE!
