                    ???'s POV
Zander's ears detected dozens of hooves galloping toward his way. He didn't need to see it to know that they were outnumbered.
Dimitri was still yelling at the top of his voice, appealing for his comrades to run, but Zander knew they had nowhere to go. They would have to stay and fight. A tsunami of dust emerged from the thick bushes making it problematic to discern who was sheltering behind it.
The men stood their ground. Their instincts still screamed for them to protect the women.
In the deadly atmosphere, the vibrations of the moving hooves came to a halt.
The dust clouds slowly started to dissipate. Everyone held their breaths as they waited eagerly to catch a glimpse of their rivals.
Zander was the first to make out his opponents. Standing before them were men, really tall men, maybe 7 or 8 feet with their bare chests on display. They were carrying spears and daggers in their hands, rings on their lips and war paint on their faces. He scrimmaged through the crowd with his eyes, and he realized there weren't any signs of females.
He wondered if they were some sort of half-breed giants.
The biggest one stepped to the front. He had gold paint on his chest and upper arms. He scrutinised Zander then he spat as a means of disrespect. There was something sinister and cold in his eyes. The stench of urine and faeces still affected the wolves' sense of smell. Zander was wondering what these people were doing in the Serpents Valley.
"You should leave - wolf," the man spoke with ridicule. The dust dissipated some more, revealing his tan skin.
"So you know what I am?" Zander responded.
"You stupid mutt, I told you to run!" Dimitri shouted from above.
"Shut your filthy mouth vampire," the man who was obviously the leader spoke.
"All we want is safe passage through these lands," Isis enunciated.
"Who said that?" The man cocked an eyebrow and squinted his eyes as he tried to look past Zander's shoulders and into the dust clouds.
Isis stepped out from the circle and walked up bedside Zander's side. "I did. My name is Isis."
The man walked closer to them, his eyes glinting like a diamond in the sun. The dust clouds getting thinner with every passing minute. "Isis," he whispered. "A lovely name for a lovely lady." He produced another step closer to Isis. His movements told Zander that he was mounted on an animal like a horse or a buffalo, as the hooves scraped across the dirt floor as he sauntered closer to Isis.
So that's why they are so tall, Zander pondered to himself. They were riding horses.
The tan man stretched his hand for Isis to take. He was gazing deep into Isis' eyes, she couldn't resist, she wanted to run into his arms. Isis hadn't been sexually stimulated in 26 years. The last time she got some was when she became pregnant with her daughter, Ingrid. Isis was being pulled into his hold with just his hungry stares.
She stretched her hand to place it in his palm.
"Isis, what are you doing?" Zander hissed, but it was like Isis wasn't aware of anyone else's presence but this man.
Zander grabbed onto Isis' shoulder, but Isis zapped him. Zander flinched but not because she hurt him, he was shocked by Isis' behaviour.
"ISIS STOPPPP!" Julia shouted, bursting from the protection circle. She held on firmly to Isis' shoulders. "I read his mind. He plans on having sex with you until he gets bored. Then he will let his brothers and friends get their turn. Then they will kill you and feast on your heart."
"Sounds fun, doesn't it?" The man grinned.
Isis snapped out of it as soon as the man's eyes broke from hers. "Thanks for the warning Julia," Isis nodded then she raised her hand and mumbled a chant. The dust clouds completely vanished and Julia gulped when she saw the creatures that stood before her. "As I suspected," Isis growled as her eyes feasted on the 50 beasts in front of her.
"CENTAURS!" Zander was astonished. He'd learned about them in his studies as a boy, but he thought they were extinct.
"I am Gaylord, and I am the leader of my people," he spoke proudly. He was about to say something else when his eyes landed on the most divine creature he had ever seen. "And who are you?" He strode past Julia and Isis, but before he could get to Hazel, Zander and James stood in his path. The wolves growled and flashed their canines at Gaylord.
"Stay back, centaur!" Zander roared. "You don't speak to my mate."
"My daughter is off limits!" James gnashed at the centaur. Gaylord stepped backwards.
"Ah, I see - the little thing is well protected."
"You have no idea!" Declan spoke up, ready to defend his Luna if need be.
"Hey, that was my line," Carson said through the link as he tapped Declan on the shoulder.
"From what I've gathered, she's the Luna of the pack, which makes you the Alpha," Gaylord said to Zander.
"Yes, I am. We are on an important mission, and we need to leave immediately. Where is the exit to Dead Man's Cave?" Zander asked.
The other centaurs erupted in chatter as they heard the words Dead Man's Cave. Gaylord's face was bemused. "Silence!" He warned his followers, then he turned to Zander. "Why in God's name do you want to go to that dreadful place?" He seemed more curious than concerned.
"We just need to pass through there to get to our final destination." Zander was being as vague as possible.
"Don't take me for a fool, young Alpha. The only reason one travels through that place is to go to Dragon Summit. Now, why do you wish to go to Dragon Summit?"
"That's none of your business," Hazel stepped up closer to him. "We don't have time for your questions, just point us in the right direction, and we shall be on our way."
Gaylord neighed. "You are so bossy, you sexy little thing." His cock grew into a huge erection. He loved feisty women.
