                    ???'s POV
"Someone's getting rusty, how couldn't you tell that the girl was a mute?" Dolos complained, still upset that Apate messed up his trick.
"I am out of practice. It's been two hundred years since I performed a trick of such magnitude. I need to get out of this place." Apate yelled.
"You know we can't, we have strict orders not to leave," Dolos hugged Apate.
Isis couldn't help but ask, "Strict orders from whom?"
"That's none of your concern, witch. Now carry on. The rule of the Ghostly Plain is if you survive our trick, then you get to leave. So move along, all of you," Dolos grinned.
"But wait, we need answers. Why take on the form of people from our pasts? Why such an evil trick?" Hazel asked.
Apate froze, she gave Hazel an incredulous look. She was fascinated by the legacy, she knew immediately that Hazel is a descendant of Helios. "You'll soon get all the answers, Luna. It's only a matter of time."
Zander growled, he didn't appreciate Apate's tone, and Apate took Zander's action as a challenge. She grinned in acceptance as she broadens her shoulders.
"That's enough Apate. Let them leave," Dolos interjected. "We'll see them soon." He snapped his fingers and disappeared. Apate and Zander had an intense stare-off before she too vanished into thin air.
"Come on dearies, let's not waste no more time," Isis muttered as she floated away. She knew they weren't in no good condition to take on those two Gods.
The others followed behind her.
"But where are we going?" Hazel asked.
"The exit is up ahead, I can smell it," Zander scrunched up his nose in disgust.
"What do you mean, you can smell it?" Hazel inquired.
"Don't you smell it too, Kitten? You should since we are connected."
Hazel focused her mind on Zander. "Oh, My Fucking Goddd!!! What the hell is that awful smell?" Hazel gagged.
"The dead," Declan whispered.
"Woah!" Dimitri exclaimed as his body fell to the ground. "That was weird," he mumbled as he stumbled to his feet.
"We are close," Isis told them as the rest of them tumbled to the ground too.
They saw a small metal gate, with the word cemetery written in bold grey letters.
The gate was fashioned from black iron. Standing around 20ft high, but its width seemed impossible to estimate.
Hazel was in awe, she had seen pictures of such gates in storybooks. She thought it was artistic yet scary.
"Wait! Don't tell me that's the entrance to Dead Man's Cave!" Declan sighed.
"Stop being such a pussy, of course, it is. Do you see any other exit?" Carson rolled his eyes. But before he could walk off, Zander held his shoulder and pulled him back.
"I will go first," Zander gently nudged the gate, it gave a mournful groan as it slung open, almost mimicking the sound of nails on a chalkboard.
"Everyone should hold hands and no matter what don't let go," Hazel announced.
"That's gonna be hard for me, Sunshine," James explained, referring to Julia in his hands.
"Just stay in the middle of the group, we'll keep an eye on you," Isis suggested.
The group followed Zander, step by step, as he sauntered across the threshold. Immediately, the scene changed from a blinding light atmosphere to a dark and mist infesting setting.
They looked behind them and all they saw was a never-ending road of pitch black.
They were out of the Ghostly Plains.
Nobody uttered a sound.
Under the watchful gaze of a few crumbling statues of a few saints, they hurried down a path lined with mausoleums. Crops of crooked headstones glinted in the moonlight.
Dried leaves crunched underfoot as they made their way forward.
The cold sound of nature sleeping crawled in their eardrums, followed by shallow breaths and thumping hearts.
A blanket of thick fog joined the group as it crept up out of nowhere, bringing with it howling wind and shivering skin.
"What's that?" Zander saw a concrete structure peeking out of the mist ahead. He focused his vision. "Looks like a gigantic headstone."
"That's exactly what it is," Isis agreed.
They walked until they came upon the headstone. It seemed pitiful and primitive, yet the creepiest thing about it was the epitaph.
It read;
~REMEMBER ME AS YOU PASS BY. AS YOU ARE NOW, SO ONCE WAS I. AS I AM NOW, SO YOU SHALL BE. PREPARE FOR DEATH AND FOLLOW ME.~
"What the fuck does that mean?" Carson scoffed.
"I don't know, but I think the passage to Dead Man's Cave is right in this area," Zander said.
"No shit Sherlock," Dimitri taunted.
Zander walked up to get a closer look at the headstone when he stubbed his toe on something, something he couldn't see beneath the sea of fog, so Zander stooped down, ready to dive below the mist.
"Be careful," Hazel warned.
"I don't like this at all," Declan whined.
"But I have to, maybe there is a trap door or something," Zander replied.
The gang held their breaths as Zander dove below the ocean of white haze.
"What is it Alpha? What do you see?" Carson was more than anxious to know what Zander saw.
"It's a finger," Zander answered as he came up for air. The stench was even worse below the fog. "Plus, there is an inscription beside it that says, 'pull me'."
"So did you pull it?" Carson quirked an eyebrow.
"Of course he didn't, we're all still alive," Declan said.
Julia began to groan. "Jules?" James whispered beside her ear. "Are you ok?"
"Yes, I think so. What happened?" She wanted to know as the blood pumping in her veins started to warm her body once more. "The ghosts, are they gone?"
"Yes, they are. But they weren't really ghosts - they were," James tried to explain. "You know what, I'll tell you about it later."
"Ok."
