                    ???'s POV
"Can you stand?" Hazel placed a hand on her aunt's shoulder.
"Yes," she sighed. James gently placed her on her feet. She wobbled a bit, but she quickly regained her composure. "Easy."
"Yeah, Aunt Jules. You gave us quite the scare." Hazel hugged her.
"I assure you I'm alright, sweet pea," Julia smiled. Her smile melted away as she took in her surroundings. She felt a rush of excitement and contentment. She gently grabbed Hazel by her shoulders and pushed her away.
"Aunt Jules?" Hazel was surprised by her actions.
A burst of joy and a strong feeling of togetherness overflowed in her heart.
She fell to her knees. "I know what to do," she said.
"Julia, wait!" Dimitri called, but she crawled until she found the hand of a corpse. The moss infested hand was just protruding from the soil. All the fingers were bent in a fist, except for the middle one.
Julia pulled on it until she heard the dried up bone crack.
The others waited for shit to hit the fan.
"Wait, why is nothing happening?" Carson asked.
"Pull it again," a friendly voice said.
Everyone looked around, but they didn't see anyone there. "Mam?" The voice sounded closest to Julia.
"Oh, lord!" She gasped. "It's coming from the finger."
"Just pull my damn finger a little to the left," the voice sounded irritated now.
Declan grabbed on to Dimitri's hand. "Man, this is creepy," he shivered.
"Now I see why you're still a virgin," Dimitri grinned.
"Just do it, Julia," Carson yelled.
Julia cleared her throat. She grabbed onto the finger, and she yanked it hard to the left, a loud nasty cracking sound echoed, and then the finger fell off in her hand. She made a little scream and flung the finger across the lawn.
The ground started to vibrate. The earth opened revealing a small crater, it sucked the fog in like a massive vacuum.
The dark brown soil could be seen in the dim night's lights.
The shaking stopped.
"Is everyone ok?"
"Yes, Isis. We're good," Hazel answered.
Julia stood to her feet as she brushed the dust from her hands. Her eyes never left the man that now stood before her.
He had the dried up finger in his hand. He pushed it in the pocket of his tuxedo. "I said pull it, not break it," he cussed. He slowly walked up towards her.
"Woah Woah Woah! Who and what the fuck are you?" Carson stood firm before Julia, not wanting this rotten old bag of bones anywhere near her.
"My name is Lance, and I am a ghoul. Now I have things to do, so if we can just move it along so that I can go home to my wife and kids, that would be great."
"You are the gatekeeper," Isis added.
"Yes, I am. And I have been waiting on you misfits for a while. I haven't seen my family in ages."
"What do you call ages?" Hazel wanted to know.
"Centuries. Since the prophecy has been foretold, I was placed here to play my part. Now follow me. I'm tired, and I have terrible rigor mortis."
The group of friends followed Lance to the large headstone. He rearranged a few of the words, and then a door appeared.
"Cool," Carson smiled.
"Now, who wants to go first?" Lance inquired. No one budged. "Ok, I guess I'll go first then. " Lance stepped through the door and the others followed him.
It was an elevator of some sort. He pressed a big red button and the elevator went down.
Two hours later.
"Are we there yet?" Declan mumbled.
"Yeah, plus I wanna pee," Carson made it known.
"Just a few more minutes," Lance said.
Forty-five minutes later and the elevator dinged to a stop.
"Finally," Zander sighed as the door slid open, but instead of them getting off, a thin woman with around a hundred slash marks on her face got on the elevator.
"Oh, hello again, Lance. It's been so long," she gave him a quick hug. A huge blob of goo smeared Lance's jacket as the woman pulled away.
"You smell nasty as usual," Lance stated and the woman cackled.
"Don't flatter me, lance. I've been rotting away at a faster pace lately. Dane can't seem to keep his tentacles off me these days."
Hazel's stomach churned.
"Good for you two. I'm glad you two are getting along great, Dora."
"Yes, for our ghouliversary he got me a knife in the back, see!" Dora spun around and displayed her gift from Dane, a thick knife embedded deep in her back. A few maggots were feasting on the area.
The elevator dinged again. Dora got off. "See you later, Lance. It was good seeing you."
"You too Dora."
As soon as the elevator jolted into action, Declan and Carson stumped over and started to vomit.
Zander was close to throwing up too, but Gidian wouldn't let him.
The woman smelt even worse than Lance.
"Trust me, if you guys did that in front of her, she would have kissed you," Lance giggled.
Carson threw up even more of the thought of her mouth on his.
Another twenty minutes and the elevator stopped again.
"Oh dear Moon Goddess, what now?" Zander clenched his jaw, wondering what nasty creature would step on.
"We're here," Lance announced. "Welcome to Dead Man's Cave."
The crew stepped out of the elevator, but nothing was at all what they thought it would be.
