DECLAN'S POV
I took a deep breath as Major Skully reached for the door handle of the club. I tried to push away the thoughts of what might be on the other side.
I was tired.
When can a wolf get a break?
Dimitri and Carson had proven to be a handful, especially Dim, I knew he meant well trying to get me laid and shit, but right at that moment I just wanted to fulfil this mission and be done with all of this drama.
My heart did a little shuffle in my chest when I remembered my plan of staying behind in the Fae world after we got Luna the help she needed.
My thoughts fizzled back to reality by the upbeat music.
The club was electric.
Undead creatures were whining and grinding against whatever undead thing was closest to them. Their feet moved to the crazy beat as they worshipped the music.
"This is like a scene from that Patrick Swayze movie," I scoffed as I noticed a slender looking ghoul moving artistically in her tattered silver dress.
"This is like the real Dirty Dancing," Dimitri added as we continued to watch the lady-ghoul shoving her lower half on the crotch of a male-ghoul whose hips were also made to sway as his crotch met her every jab.
The sequins on her dress reflected the disco ball's light that twirled above - launching every shade of the rainbow into the darkness.
"Whatcha think boys?" Major Skully turned and grinned as he waited for us to answer.
"I should have walked with some fucking bleach and a bottle of Lysol," Carson huffed.
"Don't be rude Carson, they can't help it if they - stink." Dimitri's statement came off just as rude even though I could tell he thought he was being polite while reprimanding Carson at the same time.
Major Skully's boney face contorted into a more ominous look, but then it quickly changed back to him grinning his creepy grin.
'I think he was insulted,' Maddox suggested and I agreed.
"Well boys, let's go get a drink, shall we?" Skully proposed as he administered his way over to what seemed to be a bar, I mean, it looked like a typical bar from a distance, but the closer we got to it, the more my senses took over.
The sorrowful moans could be heard from the souls that made up the bar's counter. There were thousands of them, all twisted into knots and chained to each other before they were thrown into the glass frame.
"Are those, souls?" Carson asked in shock.
"Not just any souls, human souls," Dimitri grimaced.
"Isn't it beautiful?" Skully ran his skeletal fingers over the glass casing of the counter. One soul, in particular, caught my eyes. It was that of a girl, maybe 18 or 19 at the time of her death. "I designed it myself," he praised.
My head snapped to meet his soulless gaze.
"What do you mean, you designed it yourself?" I guffawed. My innards twirled as I anticipated his explanation, but somehow I knew his reasons were going to be sinister.
"Long story short, these souls belonged to humans who - let's just say, played a little too close to the dark side," Skully chuckled evilly.
I growled.
"Easy Dec, don't spoil my chances of becoming beautiful again, remember what we're here for," Dim whispered in my ear.
He was right, I had to get my act together.
I cleared my throat and straightened my frame.
"So, the Zombie's eyes, where can we get them?" I quickly steered to the matter at hand.
"Ah, yes - let me get you guys some drinks and then I'll go talk to the person in charge to see if she can squeeze me an eyeball or two," he grinned.
'Fucking ugly piece of shit. Why is he grinning like that?' Maddox scoffed.
'Because he's up to something foul, I can taste it.'
"Three bloody Marys please," Skully ordered from the bartender.
"Right away, Major," the bartender nodded.
"Bloody Marys, I guess this bar has some potential," Dimitri declared as he seemed a bit impressed at the place for serving normal liquor.
"Here ya go fellows," the bartender slid the beverages over the soul infested counter. He nodded his head at me and I examined him. Even though his flesh was all dried and discoloured from his days of being a rotten corpse, he had an inviting smile and friendly eyes.
"Thank you, but my friends and I will not be eating or drinking anything else from this place, no offence."
"What the hell is this?" Dimitri flew over one of the tall glasses of Bloody Marys. "It smells like - blood and flesh," he amused as he peered down in the cup some more. "Fucking hell!" He exclaimed. "Is that a nipple I see floating around in there?"
"Yes. Do you prefer your Bloody Marys without nipples?" The bartender asked before he stuck his puss infested fingers into the drink and fished out the nipple.
Carson was on my shoulder gagging, trying his hardest not to vomit.
'That's disgusting,' Maddox hissed.
"If you don't like Marys I can whip up a nasty batch of Shirley Temples. We have four fresh Shirleys around the back."
"Wait! Do you mean, these drinks are of real people?" Carson's slug mouth hung wide.
"Yes, of course, they are. We also have a limited batch of Jack Daniels. There are only a handful of people with that name," the bartender sighed.
"Holy Moon Goddess!" Carson exclaimed.
"This is crazy! You killed those people to make your nasty fucking drinks!" I shouted.
"No. These people were already dead when we got them." The bartender quickly answered.
But how did they acquire the bodies if none of the inhabitants are allowed to leave this realm? Something didn't add up.
"Bran, you don't have to explain. Just get back to work," Skully interjected.
"Yes Major."
Bran continued with his work.
I wanted to drill Skully for info but as Dim said earlier, we have other important things to deal with first, so I didn't press the matter any further.
"You fellows can have a look around while I go conduct business in the back," Skully suggested.
"Maybe we should come with you," I added. I didn't trust him one bit.
"No, that won't be necessary, Diana the owner doesn't like - umm -well living people," he explained. "I'll only be a few minutes, half an hour the most."
"Ok, but if you're not back in half an hour we're leaving to go find our friends," I told him and he nodded his head - I mean skull.
Skully shuffled his way to the back of the club and disappeared behind a door.
"What should we do now? I'm tired of sitting looking at Bran's ugly face," Carson whined.
"You heard the bone man, he said we should have a look around," Dimitri suggested.
"Guys, I really think we should just sit here and wait for him to come back with the eyes - I cannot handle any trouble right now."
"Nonsense buddy, look at us," Dimitri stretched his wings. "We are a fucking bat and a slug, what sort of trouble can we cause in these states?"
"Yeah, what kinda trouble can us little fellows cause?" Carson pouted.
I sighed, maybe they're right.
'Don't fucking test them. These two are like Dennis The Menace and Kevin McCallister combined. Trouble finds them.' Maddox growled.
They continued to whine.
For the love of the Moon Goddess!
"Ok, but if you guys get yourselves in any more trouble you're on your own."
"Fair enough," Dimitri chuckled.
With the slug and the bat perched on each of my shoulders, I made my way to explore the club a little.
