DECLAN'S POV
'I don't care what anyone says. The Luna is our mate,' Maddox growled in my head. 'She smells so delectable. Why can't she be ours?' He complained.
My wolf gets confused every time he was around Hazel. Her intoxicating aroma reminded him so much of our mate that sometimes his mind went haywire, believing that our Luna is our mate. I tried on many occasions, drilling into his stubborn brain that she wasn't for us and that she belongs to our Alpha and friend.
This entire ordeal had put a damper on our and Zander's relationship. I remembered there was a time when the Alpha and I would go out on runs together and just bonded over guy stuff. Everyone knew Carson was like a brother to him, and he trusted Carson with his life, but the beta was an idiot a major percent of the time and there were things Zander needed my opinion on.
Like his proposal to Luna, the Alpha asked Carson for ideas of how to propose to a woman and Carson's response was to spray whip cream on his dick and write the words, 'Will you marry me?' on his chest with maple syrup. Let's just say Jinx was still pissed at his human for getting his jaw broken.
Zander summoned me to accompany him for a run after that incident, and it was while we were running through the woods that he asked for my opinion on the matter. I knew Hazel well enough to know that she was a romantic at heart, just like our Alpha. It was Zander's idea to ask for her hand on her birthday, but it was I who suggested having the pack propose to her as well.
My wolf was getting agitated in my head, breaking me from my thoughts. 'You need to relax. The Luna belongs to our Alpha, and you will have to accept it sooner rather than later.' I commanded him.
'What if I don't want to accept it? What if I can't?'
'We must, because if we don't, Zander will kill us.'
I felt Maddox retreating in my head. He curled up in a ball as he thought long and hard about what I said.
"Dec, I know what you're thinking," Dimitri cuddled next to my ear. "I know you love her, but you can't stare at your Luna's ass like that." Dimitri scolded. Damn! I didn't even realize I was doing that.
"Dim, I'm sorry, I couldn't help it. I know she's your cousin and all, but -"
"But nothing. It's OK, I get it, plus remember I did kiss her once upon a full moon," he giggled.
"You wait till I tell Alpha about this," Carson chimed in.
"You wait till I tell Alpha you were the one who took the 9th graders from the pack to the strip club and wasted over 10 grand," I declared. I grinned satisfied when I heard Carson stuttering.
"W-who told you? You know what, that was 5 years ago, plus my best friend would never believe you."
"Wanna bet?" I challenged him, knowing he was still fretting about his current relationship with the Alpha after keeping all those secrets.
Luna halted in front of us, then she peeked over her shoulder. "Zander and the others are just around the bend. Get ready for anything."
"Yes, Luna," I answered.
"Wait!" Major Skully announced. He opened his robe and grabbed his scythe from beneath it. "Iron is a banshee's weakness and salt can also repel it since salt is considered to be pure and anathema to the denizens of the spirit world," he explained, blowing on the red ruby at the top of his cane.
"Gimme that." I yanked it from his hands. "There is no way I'm trusting you with a weapon around my Luna," I growled. Hazel smirked with admiration, and my wolf puffed his chest out with pride.
We made it around the bend just before the tall woman placed a key in the pretty pink door. Zander and James spun around as they sensed us coming. The towering woman paused. She looked infuriated as she eyed us walking towards her.
Her eyes glowed red, and her hair went wild, dropping the keys at her feet with rage. Her mouth opened wide while her tongue wiggled around in her mouth. Her head shook fiercely from side to side.
"What's happening?" Dimitri asked.
We all stood there looking at the woman's strange behaviour, wondering if she was in pain. It was like she wanted to tell, but no words, no sound, came from her mouth.
But suddenly, Major Skully fell to the ground, panting, withering around in anguish. His boney body vibrated as he convulsed.
"Make her stop!" he shouted. "Please, make her stop screaming!"
Screaming?
'Maddox, can you hear her screams?'
'No, I can't.'
Just as I thought, and by the looks of the others, they couldn't hear her screams either.
The woman then fell to her knees, clutching the wall for support, grinning eerily when she finally scraped the untangled hair from her face.
Major Skully's body tensed as he raised his head to meet the woman's gaze. I smelt how terrified he was and my wolf, and I loved it.
"You die tonight, bone man," she cackled.
"Wait! What just happened? Someone needs to explain to me what's going on," Zander boomed. "But first, where the hell is Carson and Dimitri?" Zander shot his question at me, but before I could answer, a ghostly figure spoke instead.
"I'm right here, Alpha Zander," the ghost answered.
What?
"No, not you, ghost Carson. My beta's name's also Carson."
Hazel stepped into action.
"Zander, before we explain, promise me that you and Gidian will stay calm," Hazel cupped her husband's face and stared into his eyes. "Now say you promise."
"Alright, I promise," he gave in. "Now tell me where they are. Did they get captured? Are they drunk somewhere in town?" Zander named out possibilities that I wished were the case.
I swallowed hard, then walked up to him. "Alpha, they are OK. They're just not themselves right now." I explained, taking the bat and slug in my palm and pushing them up to Zander's face. He was looking at me like I had gone insane. But then Carson the slug smiled at him, and his eyes went wide.
"I know that smirk anywhere. Carson! Is that you, buddy?"
"In the flesh, Zander," Carson answered.
"How did this happen?" Zander didn't seem angry, but from his tone, he was concerned for his friend.
"The how doesn't matter, mutt. We just want to be fixed," Dimitri spoke, and Zander's eyes dropped to the bat.
"You sure you're not one of my wolves? Because you get in plenty of trouble, just like them." Zander rubbed his temples and Dimitri laughed. "Isis, can we fix them?"
