???'s POV
The sky bled red as bloody raindrops soaked the ground beneath the angry clouds.
The whistling and wailing of the gale force winds sounded like a ravenous wolf that was howling at the full moon, but there was no moon in sight, just angry black clouds that spat large crimson droplets.
"What's happening? Why is it raining blood?" Zander asked Lance.
"I don't know," he answered as he lifted his head to the sky.
Bolts of heavy lightning, devastating thunders, and unpredictable rhythms of the merciless torrential rainfall unleashed an evil force that opened the black gates of hell. The wicked rainstorm continuously exerted its intense attack on the town of Dead Man's Cave and its inhabitants.
The group stood on the top of the hill and stared as far as their eyes could see.
The rock-like raindrops were pounding and hammering against every surface they hit with a vigorous rhythm of rumbling thunders, replicating the perpetual pounding sounds of a Japanese Taiko drum concert. Water levels were rising in the street, threatening to flood the town.
"If this rain doesn't stop, all of Dead Man's Cave will be lost," Lance exhaled.
"Is there something we can do, Isis?" Zander asked, holding on tight to Hazel as her body trembled against the cold.
They all were soaked, except for Carson the ghost.
"I don't know how to stop nature," Isis bit her lip, hating the fact that this time her magic couldn't resolve a problem.
A minute later, James yelled, "The rain is easing up!"
And it was, eventually, whichever of the Gods was angry wasn't anymore, as the sounds of their anger tapered off as they made peace with the lands.
Declan walked closer to the cliff, bloodied water soaked his hair with droplets dripping from the ends.
His eyelids made slits as he zoned in on the distance into the town. He pointed. "There, do you see that Alpha?" he questioned.
Zander and James walked up to him and tried to see what he was seeing.
"Yes, I see it. But what is it?" Zander inquired. There was some kind of light brewing in one of the buildings in town.
"Isn't that the strip club?" Declan announced as Carson, the slug peeped out from the inside of his shirt. Dimitri was hiding from the rain in Isis' witch purse she always carried around.
"Why is it glowing like that?" James wondered.
The group watched as the building began to shake. Ghouls, ghost-clowns, and every undead creature inside could be seen hastily exiting the building.
Declan gasped when he saw the building explode, the effect of the blast sent the undead people flying in every direction.
"Brace yourselves," Zander warned as the effects pushed them to the wet ground too.
"They're free," Carson the ghost trailed off as he stared into town.
The others got up, with Tia giggling when her mother had a little difficulty getting up.
They all stared in amazement when their eyes picked up on the pretty streaks of lights ascending into the sky.
They were thousands of them.
Julia was beaming with glee, her heart overwhelmed with joy as she watched the beams of lights flying free. "They are happy," Julia sniffled. "The souls that Major Skully trapped are now free," Julia announced.
Declan clenched his jaw, trying hard to hold back his tears. He was happy, especially that now Nancy was free.
"What now?" Declan asked as he turned to his Alpha.
"Now we seek passage to the Dragon Flame Summit," Zander answered.
"Cedella, you think we can gain access now?" Julia questioned. "I think things will be better here now that Major Skully is gone."
"Sweetheart," Cedella stooped to her daughter's level. "Do you think my friends can use your tunnels?"
The little girl looked towards the group, her eyes lingered on Declan, then on James, then finally on Zander. Her eyes wavered on the Alpha for a moment, then they went back to James. She wriggled from her mother's grip and rushed towards James. With her sweet innocent eyes, she asked him. "Are you my father?"
James' eyes softened as Cedella swallowed her weeps. He wiped his thumb across her jaw, he wanted to be truthful and tell her no, but he remembered what ghost Carson said upon their arrival, that the child will ask one of the men a question and regardless of what it is, the answer should be yes. He lifted the sweet child in his arms. "Yes, I am your father, little one."
The little girl's eyes sparkled like diamonds in the sun. Her sweet giggles caused the sky to rain again, but instead of water, fell colourful candies of all shapes and sizes. Her little arms curled around James' neck and her joy could be felt by everyone.
Hazel walked up to them and placed a hand on the child's back. "You know Tia, James here is my father too," Hazel told her. "So that makes us sisters."
The child's head jerked up to meet Hazel's eyes. "Really?"
"Yes really," Hazel smiled as she went in to hug the pair too.
Declan was busy eating skittles and gummy bears. "You are one cool girl, Tia," he praised as he got his sugar high on. "But how are you doing this?"
"My daughter is a sugar fairy," Cedella declared. "And being half, you know what," Cedella explained, not wanting to say dark witch out loud for her daughter's ears. "She can also summon animals."
"So she is the one who summoned the owls and the other living animals here," Lance amused.
"Yes, when she was younger, she found a book in the house that had pictures of animals, and she was fascinated by the owl, so she summoned a few here, so she could see them for real."
The child exhaled as she gestured for James to put her down. The candies stopped falling as she got serious. "I know, James, that you are not my real father, but I am glad you want to be," she smiled. "My puppies and I will wait for you all in my room," she giggled as she filled her pockets with sweets and ran back inside the mansion.
"Such a precious girl," Isis smirked.
"Yes, she is," Cedella sighed.
"The last of the spirits are almost gone," Carson the ghost announced. "And it is my time to go."
"No, but I'm not ready for you to leave," Cedella spoke up.
"I know, but it's time," he hugged his friend. "And soon it will be your time to leave too." he pulled from his hug.
"What do you mean?" Cedella gulped.
"Major Skully's contract and scythe were destroyed, you don't have to stay here anymore, you can finally go home," he kissed her cheek. He then turned to the others. "And thank you guys, you truly are my saviours," he shook each of their hands. "And Carson the slug, I'm pissed that we didn't get to meet properly. I hope you get back to your old self soon."
"You're so right. And I hope there is plenty of p -"
Zander cut off Carson before he could finish his statement. "Safe travels Carson."
The ghost gave one final bow before his spirit shot off up above.
