                    ???'s POV
"Alpha, that was so rude of you, cutting me off like that," Carson complained.
"You think I was gonna make you make that crude remark in a serious situation like that?"
"What crude remark? All I wanted to do was wish the guy plenty of peace wherever he was going," Carson huffed.
"Oh," Zander gulped, feeling embarrassed for not trusting his beta.
"You were going to say, pussies, weren't you?" Dimitri whispered as he perched on Declan's shoulder next to Carson.
"Yes, I was," Carson cackled.
"Cedella, your face!" Lance exclaimed.
Cedella's hair was transformed from white to a beautiful sky blue, her face changed from pale to shimmery silver, and the cloak that she wore vanished, leaving a beautiful green gown.
She glanced at her hands. "I'm me again," she beamed. "Well, I'm still a ghost, but not a banshee."
"That's wonderful," Isis sang cheerily.
Cedella's eyes trailed off to the oak tree. "You guys will need my body to get to the Dragon world."
"Why?" Hazel wanted to know.
"I'll explain in a little bit," Cedella answered, glaring with sad eyes at the oak tree.
"You don't have to stay here for this," Lance told her.
"No, I want to," She let out as she glided up to the tree. She hovered over a spot that had the only green patch of grass. "I'm buried right here."
Declan and Zander used their bare hands to quickly dig up the dirt. They didn't stop until they reached a coffin with Cedella's remains. The two wolves lifted it out of the hole.
"Whenever you're ready," Lance spoke to Cedella.
She sighed. "Now to get to the Dragon Flame Summit you must travel through the River of Souls," she explained. "Now there is a boat that can get you across the river, but the ferryman will first need payment."
"What kind of payment?" Zander wondered.
"He will require a single payment of an obolus coin," she explained.
"Where do we get that?" Hazel whined.
"Don't worry, I have an endless supply," Lance declared. He plucked an old silver coin from his pockets. Zander stretched his palm to take it. "No, it has to be placed on the dead's mouth."
Everyone paused.
"Open the coffin," Cedella ordered, and Zander lifted the cover. Julia and Hazel looked away while the others watched with teary eyes. Her body was wrapped in fine silk, but her pronounced belly still looked pregnant through the fabric. Lance placed the coin over her wrapped face, right at the mouth.
"Her flesh is still there," Lance announced.
"A fairy's body will remain intact after death if they are not buried in the Fae world," Cedella explained.
Zander sealed the coffin once more.
"Now we go to the tunnels, so we can get to the Fae world," Hazel sighed.
Declan heard a faint voice calling his name. He looked to the town where spirits were still shooting up to the sky when he noticed one of the spirits breaking formation, instead of ascending to the skies like the others, it wisped towards the group atop the hill at the edge of town.
The ghost girl hit Declan in the chest as she tried to keep her energy from floating away. "Woah!" she let out as she steadied herself.
Declan got a good look at her. "Nancy?" His eyes widened. "Is it really you?" The beautiful brown-haired girl scanned the handsome wolf's face like she wanted to memorize every detail and Declan was doing the same. Her zombie body must have been destroyed when the club exploded, leaving her soul to roam free.
"Yes," she chuckled. "Did you really think I'd leave without saying goodbye?" she wrapped her ghostly hands around his head and placed a kiss on his lips. "Thank you, Declan, for freeing us, I'll never forget you."
"You're welcome, Nancy," Declan grinned, closing his eyes and going in for a deeper kiss.
The others cleared their throats. "Who's that?" Carson asked Dimitri.
"That's Mitsy, the Zombie stripper."
"Maybe if you didn't die - we could have made it work," Declan growled as she pulled away from the kiss.
"Shh," she hushed him, then she lean down and whispered in his ear. "Your fate will be waiting for you at the end of this journey."
Declan froze as he watched Nancy turn to the group and stated her thanks to them as well.
"Goodbye, Declan," she whispered as she vanished into the sky.
"Goodbye, Nancy."
"Who the hell are those?" Zander pointed as he noticed six more spirits hurling towards them.
They looked different from Nancy.
"Banshees!" Cedella yelped.
"Why are they coming here?" Declan yelled.
Cedella had a weary look on her face. "When several banshees appear at once, it indicates the death of someone great or holy."
"Fuck!" James uttered.
One of them flew and knocked James to the ground, while the others circled the group, like hungry vultures circling a corpse in the desert.
They didn't seem as friendly as Cedella was. With bloodshot eyes, they opened their mouths in synchrony, shaking their heads furiously. There was no doubt that they were screaming.
Everyone present looked at the person next to them, to see who was reacting - to see which one of them was hearing the banshees' screams.
Everyone's hearts fell in their chests as a shockwave of gasps circulated the air when they saw whose body was curled up in a ball, with their palms over their ears.
Hazel - couldn't speak, all she could do was stand there with tears rolling down her face.
Julia held on to James, both of them too stunned to even move.
Declan was grinding his teeth, with his fist folded at his sides.
Lance just stood there with his head hung low, feeling helpless.
Cedella was weeping like she was still a banshee.
Dimitri wrapped his wings around Carson as he tried desperately to console the slug.
Zander plummeted to his knees, with his eyes bulging and Gidian pounding in his head to be set free, but the young Alpha knew that there was nothing he could do. With hot tears trickling from his eyes, Zander cried, "Isis! No!!!"
