???'s POV
Dimitri waited only for around 10 minutes, then he saw Carson's transformation. His beautiful blonde hair grew out of his skull as his head changed first. Then, in a blink of an eye, his body filled out, replacing the body of the slug.
Carson groaned, and his belly growled like an angry bear. "I'm so hungry," he whispered, sitting up and rubbing his head. Realization hit when he felt his buttery smooth hair silking through his fingers. He stretched his hands in front of his eyes and almost teared up at his beautiful human fingers. "Jinx, buddy, we're back."
Jink howled in excitement, flipping around in Carson's head. Then his belly did a flip of its own and Jinx got dizzy and sat down. 'I am famished. I need an elk, or better yet, a mountain lion.'
'I feel ya.'
Dimitri stood up and grabbed a tall stick to use as a walker, then crookedly made his way and walked over to Carson.
The werewolf's senses resurfaced as his eyes zeroed in on the moving figure. Carson thought Dimitri resembled The Hunchback of Notre Dame if he was 1000 years old.
"Carson," Dimitri's old voice croaked. "You're awake, my friend."
"Who the hell are you?" Carson questioned, worrying that the old man might turn into dust if he ages another minute.
"It's me, buddy, it's Dimitri."
"Which Dimitri? Vampire fuckboy Dimitri?" Carson's mouth fell open.
He saw Dimitri's eyes and realized that it was truly him. "Fuck man, what happened to you."
Dimitri grinned. "Nothing, I just got old."
"What do you mean? You've always been old. Maybe Isis' potion went haywire. By the way, where is everyone?"
Dimitri sighed, then he started crying. "Everyone is dead. They are all dead!"
"No, you're lying."
"It's true man, James was the first to die. They ripped his head clean off his head and burned it on the snowy field."
"What?"
"Yes, then Declan, he sacrificed himself for Hazel," Dimitri sobbed. Carson folded his palms as tears streamed down his face. "And Zander, man, he — he was attacked by King Lucifer, who ripped his heart from his chest. Now he drinks blood from a cup made from Zander's skull."
"I will gather the pack and —"
"I'm afraid that is out of the question," Dimitri shuffled. "There is no more pack."
"What do you mean, no more pack?"
"Gabrielle, CJ —"
"Don't tell me Lucifer killed my family."
"No, of course not. They just grew old and died."
"What?"
"Carson, you've been asleep for 2000 years."
Carson fell on his feet as Dimitri continued.
"You missed the war, the mega eclipse, your son's wedding to little Renesme, and the coming of Christ. You missed it all."
"No," Carson fell to his feet, crying his heart out. "That's why you look like the crypt keeper for Tales from the Crypt." Carson cried some more. Even Jinx was howling in pain in his head.
"What is all this ruckus in here?" Zander rushed through the door. He stopped in his tracks when he saw a naked Carson. Old Dimitri stood there, looking guilty as he stepped back.
"Carson, you're you again."
Carson stood up, his eyes red and puffy from crying.
Zander thought he was just happy to be himself again. "No need to cry. It will all be OK."
"Oh Alpha, I'm sorry I wasn't there for you, I'm sorry you were killed and Lucifer ripped your heart —" Before Carson finished his statement, he felt a hard body slam into his, then strong arms wrapped around his torso, lifting him up and squeezing him.
"I'm happy to see you," Zander whispered in his friend's ear.
Carson's hands lay idly at his sides for a while. "Wait, you're not a ghost,"
Carson said while his hands reached behind Zander and gave his butt a little squeeze. "That's definitely real."
"Carson, what the hell are you doing?" Zander stiffened.
"Well, Dimitri told me you died," Carson pulled away from Zander and explained the rest of what Dimitri told him.
Old man Dimitri was having a field day as his laughing turned into hacking.
"Well, he lied. You've only been out maybe two hours."
"Dimitri, that was not cool, bro."
The others pitched in with laughter as Dimitri relayed the prank to them.
Isis and Scorch entered. "Oh, look, the entire gang is here," Isis giggled. "Carson, it's good to see your face, handsome."
"Thank you," Carson replied. "And wow, Miss Isis, you look —"
"Younger? I know," she praised. "I just stole 20 years off the dragon."
"You did what?" Scorch yelled.
"Don't you get to live an eternity?" Isis hissed.
"That is, if we find our eternal, and I am not blessed with one as yet," Scorch fumed.
"Well, it's only 20 years, you won't miss them," Isis laughed.
"Isis, if this is about the Banshee's screams, then we'll find another way. You don't have to do shit like this, if you'd just talk to us–"
Isis cut Zander off. "No, I am tired of talking. I want to at least live to see my grandchild become a man," she seemed.
"I understand, but stealing another being's life force is not the way to go, Isis, that was very," Zander froze.
"What Zander? Say it, say it!"
"Dark of you."
"Enough!" Layla screeched. "We have bigger meat to fry."
"It's fish to fry, not meat," Carson corrected. Layla sneered at him.
"We must get our dragon back from this King Lucifer's clutches, and we are going to need our Dragon King's help. Our King is not like any other dragon that ever reigned. He is different in ways the elders had never seen or heard of."
"Like how? Is he monster big?" Zander asked.
"He has five heads," Isis spoke. They all looked at the witch. "Legend has it he is the evillest creature to have ever lived."
"I can't do this," Julia gasped.
"Well, legend has it wrong. Our King is not like that." Scorch grunted.
"We'll see about that," Isis bellowed.
"You can't go there, which," Layla declared. "That would be an insult to our King."
"I think only four of you should go," Scorch suggested. "I take it Queen Julia and Alpha Zander are a must, so who will the other two be?"
"I will go," James volunteered.
"Father, are you sure?"
"Yes, sunshine."
"Then I'll be the fourth."
"No, kitten, you're too weak."
"I will come also," Declan said, and Zander nodded his head.
"Then that's settled. You all have to remove your clothes and jewellery. You have to go as natural as you were born." Layla explained.
"Ok," Zander sighed. He removed his clothes first and his wedding ring. He handed his stuff to Hazel.
James and Declan were next to strip down naked.
Julia was hesitant, but she did so too.
"OK, one more thing, whatever you do, don't shift. The King will see it as an attack of war."
"Fuck!" Zander cursed.
"Move along now," Scorch stated.
The four carefully made their way up the side of the wall, so they could climb to the top of the summit.
The others stayed below and watched as the four became as small as an egg and then disappeared out of sight.
Layla and Scorch gave each other a knowing nod, as they silently hoped this all go well. Because it wasn't the first time beings came to seek the Dragon King's help.
There had been hundreds of witches, wizards, trolls, mermaids, even humans came to seek his help. They all climbed to the top like Zander and their queen, but the thing was, none of them ever made it back down.
