JULIA'S POV
James's eyes were in a thin line, with his lips quivering, gawking at the creature behind me. Declan's lips were pale, and his mouth opened wide in what I felt to be horror. But it was Zander's whole demeanour that threw me off. It was obvious he was having an internal talk with his wolf.
"Julia, just talk to them. We'll be right here if you need us." I read Zander's mind and I nodded as my reply.
A cold thing rested on the back of my neck. "Please, turn around, so I can see my Queen's face."
"Are you going to eat me?" I questioned. I was trying to read the creature, but I couldn't. The voice laughed, and two other magical voices joined in on the laughter. "I could, but only if you want me to." I tensed, clenching my legs together at its forwardness.
"Forgive Cyclonus, Julia. He's a bit too excited." Another voice said. It was smooth and gentle. It came with a scent of rain and flowers.
"That doesn't answer my question." I breathed out.
"Enough!" A rough, gravelly tone interrupted. The aroma of wet earth and green fields captivated me. "You fools are frightening our Eternal." He grunted. "I apologize for Cyclonus and Drizzle's behaviour." It stated. "I am Terrafirma The Immovable," he introduced himself. "And I am happy to meet you, Julia and I promise we won't hurt you."
I slowly turned around, and my face slammed into a dark brown head, with yellow eyes and sharp, pearly teeth. "Ahh," I yelped. I was a little startled.
"Forgive me, Julia. I'm a little nervous." Terrafirma gulped. He cast his eyes away, and it was obvious he was shy. My fear slowly disappeared. "You're just so beautiful." My heart fluttered, so I reached my hand out and rubbed his snout. He purred and chuckled. Pounds of dirt and sand shot from his throat and landed behind me. I heard Zander and Declan mumbling expletives as they brush the dirt from themselves. "I'm sorry, I spit earth when I'm happy, too."
"Earth?" I asked.
"Yes. I'm an Earth dragon."
"And I'm Cyclonus The Typhoon, a Wind dragon."
"Remarkable." I admired Cyclonus, his all-white head and eyes made him seem like an albino dragon if there was such a thing.
"Aren't you going to rub my snout too, Julia, or you don't like white boys," Cyclonus let out, and I couldn't help but smile.
Zander and Declan were enjoying themselves, listening to my exchange with the dragon heads. They were laughing at what Cyclonus said. He lowered his head so I could pet him.
"It's my turn," the head with the green and blue scales pushed Cyclonus out of the way. "And I am Drizzle The Raindancer and, as my name suggests, I am a water dragon." He leaned in and barely used his snout to touch my cheek.
"You kissed her?" One of them shouted. The three went into a quarrel about equality when I noticed the smallest head peeking out of the shadows.
"Hello there," I called to him. "Don't you wish to introduce yourself too?" His red and orange scales seemed to burn hot from the distance. I didn't need to ask what kind of dragon he was.
"That's Tinderflare The Ash Maker, and he's just upset that he can't control his flames," Drizzle explained. "He is terrified of hurting you. You see, every time he opens his mouth, flames come out."
"I see," I replied. I decided to leave him be. I knew he would come to me when he was ready. "So isn't there supposed to be five of you?"
"Technically, we are one dragon with five heads. We share one heart and one tail, but we only have two feet and two hands." Terrafirma explained. "But Zarik is closest to our heart since he is in the middle. He went into a stone-like state many moons ago. Before he did, he told us he felt like he was dying from heartache."
"Why?" I asked.
"Because he was losing hope that you'd come." Drizzle retorted.
I felt awful. And I felt protective of them. "I promise you. Now that I am here, I won't leave you guys again." I could feel their heart heating up and the glacier that it was in melted away. Their gigantic body moved and we heard the sound of a tail dragging over the ground. The tail lifted and knocked over a stalagmite with a crash. The ground shook, but only for a second.
"He's waking up," Cyclonus beamed. Another stalagmite came crashing down close to my head.
"Julia, are you OK?" My three companions ran over to me. Zander cupped my face to see if I was alright.
"She's fine," a voice so compelling the atmosphere vibrated with power. My eyes found the fifth head, in the middle, glowing icy eyes watched me. He was not the biggest head, but he was the most impressive. He leaned closer to me. His head must have been heavy since it was pure gold. He smelt like pine cones and winter breeze. "You're staring Julia."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize. I like the feeling of your eyes on me," he grinned. "My name is Blizzarik The Cold One, and I am an ice dragon." I realized the others were quiet while Blizzarik spoke. "And are your wolves friendly?"
"Yes, they are my friends. We want to speak to the Dragon King."
"Very well then, but just so you know, he's way more fun than us," Zarik warned. "See you soon, Julia." And in a glow of light, they changed into him.
There was a lengthy pause. The only thing between us was our heavy breathing. I couldn't see his face yet, but I made out his tall silhouette from the shadows. Then he began to step forward, his movements so majestic as he came into view.
His lips didn't move but u heard him loud and clear.
"Julia, what took you so long?"
I couldn't answer because as I stood there looking at him, I was asking myself the same thing.
