???'s POV
Like the noise a woodpecker creates as its beak hammers away pecking at the trunk of a tree. That was how hard and fast Julia's heart was thumping.
At first, in the somber light, the dragon king's skin was like an artwork of shadows and ivory, but as soon as he stepped out into the light a tarpaulin of colourful tattoos that told a tall tale covered the right side of his body.
He was devilishly handsome, with eyes so red they seemed like they were on fire. His muscles danced, and his eyes were diamond hard as they drank up Julia's nakedness. He had never seen a more radiant beauty. He was pleased with her dark chocolate skin. He wondered how sweet she tasted.
Julia wasn't at all intimidated by him, but she couldn't help but feel a twinge of discomfort, like she was facing a panther in the jungle. Her body was frozen into place as the beautiful, sinful predator stalked up to her. She asked herself why he was staring at her like he was considering making her his next meal.
He made an unforeseen halt. He was still a couple of feet away from her.
"It's because I am, Julia." His tongue clucked when he recited her name, and his eyes scoured her body from her head to her toe, then from her toe to her head again. "And I don't mind dining in presence of your, pets."
His views lazily crept over to Zander, James, and Declan. They curtailed their heads to the side, remembering what Scorch and Layla told them about being respectful to the king. It pleased him that the werewolves knew their place.
Irritation cut through Julia's discomfort. She had thought many things about the dragon king since learning she was his supposed eternal, but being rude wasn't one of them.
Julia cleared her throat. "They are not pets." Her tone was sharp, but a slight lift of an eyebrow was the dragon's only reaction to her snappy response. Julia gulped, rethinking her feistiness because the way he was standing there, glaring at her now with a fierce gaze, caused her skin prickle. "I apologize, Your Sir, I mean, Your Majesty." She quickly proclaimed. "I meant no disrespect." She tried catching her breath, but it was difficult because just looking at him from a distance was clouding her senses.
Within seconds, the oxygen was whacked out of Julia's lungs when the dragon swooped up to her and slammed his body into her. He embraced her tightly while he rubbed her back with his scaly palms.
"You never have to be frightened of me, Julia." Her entire frame tensed and then shuddered, as though a current entered from the tips of his fingers and arrowed straight to her heart. She stood there dumbfounded, feeling his lips pressed on top of her head. It was as if the walls were closing in on her. She suddenly couldn't find the means to breathe properly. All she could smell was him. He smelled light and fresh, like coconut with a hint of sandalwood.
The dragon pulled away so that he could stare into her eyes. He found her deep orbs of dark brown gorgeous. He could see her gentle nature shining through. "Let me take care of you, Julia." He muttered with his eyes closed. Not that he thought she needed taking care of, but something told him she had been taking care of everyone else except herself. But his words triggered Julia. Those were the exact words Abraham whispered to her when he begged her to be his wife.
"I can take care of myself, Your Majesty," she recited, using her palms to push him away. He stepped back, letting her think she shoved him off, but really he was far too heavy for her efforts to move him.
Her formality with him was pissing him off. She was his equal, after all. "Dreadwing." He stated, his eyes doing a scan of her face, trying to read into her irritation.
"Excuse me?" Julia's eyes narrowed, trying to cipher what he just said.
"Dreadwing. It's my name. Not Sir, Dragon King, and most certainly not Your Majesty." He held Julia's hand, and she yanked it from him before he could kiss it. "Did I do something to offend you? Am I not, all you want in an eternal?" His tone was noxious now, even Zander was bracing for a fight. "Pipe down werewolf!" Dreadwing bellowed. "Unlike your kind, Dragons know how to contain themselves." Even though offended, Zander nodded and dropped his fists. "Julia, why are you -" And then his views fell on Julia's hand. "Oh, I see." Dreadwing shifted his head slightly, the light in his eyes fading.
Julie quickly rubbed her ring finger. Even though she removed her jewellery, the mark the band made was still there. "It's not what you think."
"So you are not joined with another?" Dreadwing was hopeful again. The flames in his eyes reignited at Julia's words.
"I was, but not anymore."
"Good." He smiled. The look on Julia's face told him she was uncomfortable, so he quickly steered to a new topic. "So your pets want to go to the Fae World?"
"For the last time, Dreadwing, they are not pets." Julia huffed.
"Are they not animals?" He quizzed. He watched as Julia contemplated to answer.
"Technically, they -" He interrupted her with his quick rebuttal.
"Yes or No?" He inquired.
"Yes." she answered, defeated.
"And are they house-trained?"
"Is that a trick question?"
"You caught me." He chuckled. "Do they have a master? Now that is a more fitting question."
"Like an Alpha?" Julia was a little confused.
"No sweet Julia, I mean, do they have a master that scratches below their bellies when they lay on their backs?"
Julia gasped. Her neck became very hot now, she could feel the sweat pebbling her skin. Her eyes watched as the Dragon King’s lips smirked at her as he continued.
"Do they have someone who they go down on their hands and knees for—someone who they take pleasure in worshipping?”
