"Congratulations, you're pregnant!" The nurse said as she scanned my stomach.
My world froze. Pregnant? No way. Unseen omegas like me lived drama-free in the human world. Pregnancy wasn't part of the plan.
The nurse saw my panic. "Honey, everything alright? This is great news!"
"Wait, you're wrong," I stammered, clutching the table.
"I can't be pregnant."
But as her words settled, it clicked. My missed period, the nausea, weird food cravings - it all made sense. But how? I was a secret omega, how could I be having a baby?
Prom night memories hit me. All the dancing, the music, and those secret stares I exchanged with Rowan Magnus, even though I was dancing with Brock.
"Catrina?" My date, Brock, frowned. "Who are you looking at?"
I felt my cheeks heat up as I pulled back from him. "Nobody! Everything's fine."
Except it wasn't fine. Rowan's golden eyes held mine, and there was a strange electricity sparking between us that I couldn't ignore.
Later, after a typical fight with Brock, I found myself alone in the courtyard. That's when Rowan materialized like a predator, his voice deep and gravelly.
"Shouldn't be here alone," he warned. "It’s not safe."
I scoffed. "For an unscented omega in the human world? I doubt that."
Rowan and I were the only wolves in our entire high school. My wolf perked up the first time I cheered him on at a football game freshman year, and I guess that's when he noticed me too. But beyond those stolen glances, we never interacted.
Rowan's eyes gleamed. "You have no idea how wrong you are."
Before I could react, his kiss ignited something primal within me. Logic vanished. My wolf side, a hidden part of me, emerged. Every instinct screamed that Rowan was my mate.
Passion took over. Clothes flew. We ended up tangled in the grass, his masculine scent intoxicating. His touch, his mouth, explored every inch of my untouched body.
We went all the way, and the pleasure was incredible. Rowan was strong and gentle, making me cry out with joy between kisses and sweet nothings in a language I didn't understand.
The passion was built, and we both reached a peak together. When I climaxed for the first time, I felt like I might explode.
Rowan roared in response, and everything changed. It felt like a deep connection, like two puzzle pieces finally fitting together.
He kissed my jaw softly, then down to a new mark on my neck - a mark that said I was his.
"You're mine," he growled, both possessive and loving. "Forever."
His words sent shivers down my spine. I'd just been living, but now I had a purpose: to love and be loved by Rowan, my alpha, my mate.
But our happiness exploded in an instant. Rowan scrambled back, his handsome face twisted in horror.
"Oh my god... what did I do?" he choked, running his hand through his dark hair. " I.. shouldn’t be doing … this"
His voice dripped with disgust, a knife to my heart. I fumbled to hide myself, shame burning my cheeks.
"Rowan, please..."
"Stay away from me," he snarled, throwing on his clothes and storming off.
"If you're smart, you'll forget everything that happened here."
Just like that, I went from a cherished mate to something worthless, all because I was an omega. The cruel rejection shattered my wolf heart, leaving it in pieces.
So here I was, pregnant in the human world as an omega, carrying the child of an alpha who didn't want anything to do with me.
My chest ached like it might burst. I had to get out of that stuffy office, away from the pity in the nurse's eyes. Before another word could be said, I practically ran from the room and out of the clinic.
Everything was a blur on the drive to Rowan's fancy mansion outside town. I needed to tell him the truth, make him understand what he'd done.
My hands trembled as I pressed the doorbell, waiting. No answer. Panic surged, and I hammered on the gate until a butler finally appeared.
"I need to see Rowan Magnus," I said, barely holding back tears.
"It's urgent."
The butler raised an eyebrow. "Who might you be?"
"Catrina Blanc. Rowan will want to see me, trust me."
He gave me a doubtful once-over before finally sighing.
"Fine. Wait here."
My hands shook like crazy as he disappeared into the mansion. The strong scent of Rowan, so masculine and familiar, filled the air.
A deep ache throbbed within me, a primal need to be near my mate.
The doors whooshed open, revealing Rowan himself. He looked like a million bucks in a dark robe that stretched across his broad chest. But his face turned to ice the moment he saw me.
"Why are you even here?"
My mouth went dry, but I forced out the words, "I'm not leaving until you listen."
"Why should I listen to the lies of a filthy little omeg-"
"I'm pregnant."
Rowan's eyes flickered for a second, the first sign of a crack in his tough act.
"No way," he scoffed.
"It's yours, Rowan," I said, staring him down. "This baby is your heir."
His jaw clenched, and he sniffed the air. He could smell the truth, the proof of his child inside me. For a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of fear in his eyes, but then his face went hard again.
"Wrong," he growled. "That pup you're carrying belongs to that human you were with."
His words felt like a knife twisting in my gut. How could he deny his own child?
"Am I a toy to you?" I cried, tears welling up. "You were my first, Rowan, my mate! This is your baby, like it or not!"
His jaw clenched so tight it looked like it might explode. "Omega, listen up. One more word out of you, and you better be apologizing for this crazy lie, or else-"
"It's not a lie!" I yelled back. "You just need to know you're having a baby!"
The air crackled between us, thick with silence. Rowan just stared.
“I reject you, Catrina Blanc, as my mate…. and you better leave before my father comes” Then, he slammed the door shut, leaving me alone on the porch.
Tears streamed down my face as the weight of his rejection hit me. Not only did he reject me, he denied his child.
At that moment, I knew I had to get out. Out of this town, out of this world that had ripped my life apart.
Two days later, I was on a bus headed for Las Vegas. No wolves there, just a chance for me and my baby to disappear. My future was a blur, my dreams of going to college were shattered, but one thing was clear:
I'd raise this child alone, human-style, far from the pack that cast us out. Rowan Magnus would never see the son or daughter he so easily discarded.
