Catrina's POV
A cold sweat clung to my skin, and my heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird. I sat up in bed, gasping for breath, the remnants of the nightmare clinging to me like cobwebs.
“Just a dream,” I told myself, trying to calm my racing pulse. “It was just a dream.”
But even as I repeated the words, I couldn't shake the chilling feeling of dread that had entered into my bones.
The images from the dream, so vivid, replayed in my mind like a broken record.
Vivian. Rowan's mother. Her face, usually so serene, was twisted with fear and pain.
“Vivian?” I whispered, her name a shaky breath in the quiet room. Lucas, our sweet little pup, slept peacefully beside me, oblivious to the fear that gripped my heart.
The dream had been so vivid, so intense. I could still hear her voice, desperate and pleading.
“Catrina, you have to help me!” She’d been fading, her form shimmering like a mirage in the desert.
“A sorcerer, his name is Damien, he’s taken me captive in the spirit world. He wants to use the power of our werewolf blood for evil.”
A shiver ran down my spine, making my skin crawl. A sorcerer? What could he possibly want with our bloodline? And how could I, a simple omega, a maid, hope to fight something like that?
Vivian’s face, filled with fear and desperation, flashed in my mind.
“Catrina, you’re the only one who can save me,” she’d pleaded, her voice trembling. “Damien is ancient and powerful. He’s growing stronger every day. If you don’t hurry, he’ll unleash a terrible darkness on the world.”
Her words had felt like a physical weight on my chest, crushing me with fear and responsibility.
“But how, Vivian?” I’d cried in the dream, my voice full of panic. “I’m just an omega! How can I fight a sorcerer?”
She’d offered me a sad, fleeting smile. “You’re stronger than you think, Catrina. You’re not just an omega. You carry our pack’s legacy, the power that runs in our blood.”
I’d shaken my head, confused and scared. “I don’t understand, Vivian. How can I stop him? I’m not even a true Luna.”
Her eyes had hardened with a fierce determination.
“You’re the key, Catrina. You and Rowan, your love for each other, your bond – that’s what will save our pack. Only you, with the strength of your mate and your family, can defeat Damien.”
Her gaze had been so intense, so full of hope and fear, that it had sent shivers down my spine.
“Tell me what to do, Vivian,” I’d said, my voice trembling.
“I’ll do anything to save you, to protect my family.”
She’d stepped back, her form flickering like a candle in the wind.
“Gather your pack, Catrina. Rowan, Derek, Alpha Isabelle, Jarrett – you need them all. Time is running out. Hurry.”
I’d reached for her, desperate to keep her from fading away. “Vivian, wait! Don’t go! Tell me more! How do I save you?”
But she was gone, swallowed by the darkness, leaving only her final words echoing in my mind.
“Hurry, Catrina. Our family’s fate depends on you.”
Little Lucas cooed beside me, his sweet sounds dragging me back from the nightmare of the dream.
I looked down at him, his tiny face peaceful in sleep, his little hand curled into a fist. He was so innocent, so perfect.
My heart ached with the fierce need to protect him, to shield him from the darkness that Vivian had warned me about.
“Oh, Lucas,” I whispered, stroking his soft cheek. “Your grandma Vivian needs our help. And I… I don’t even know how to begin.”
But even as fear whispered doubts in my ear, a new determination was taking root in my heart.
Vivian had chosen me. She’d entrusted me with this mission, this responsibility. I couldn’t let her down. I couldn’t let my family down.
“I have to try, Lucas,” I whispered, kissing his forehead. “I have to save Grandma Vivian and stop Damien before he can hurt anyone.”
The dream felt so real, so urgent.
This sorcerer, Damien, was a real threat to our pack, to everyone we loved.
And I, a simple omega, a maid who had never fought a battle in her life, was supposed to be the key to stopping him?
It seemed impossible.
But Vivian had believed in me. And Rowan… Rowan would believe in me too. He was my strength.
Together, with our pack, we could face anything.
I took a deep breath, gathering my courage. I couldn’t stay here, frozen by fear. I had to act.
I had to find Rowan, tell him about the dream, about the threat.
Carefully, I lifted Lucas from his crib, holding him close to my chest. His warmth, the steady beat of his tiny heart, gave me strength. This wasn’t just about me anymore.
It was about protecting my son, my mate, my pack, and my family.
“Don’t worry, little one,” I murmured, looking down into his innocent eyes. “Mama’s going to fight for us. I promise.”
I kissed his cheek, his sweet baby scent filling me with a fierce love that chased away some of the fear. Vivian’s warning was still there, a dark cloud hanging over me, but I wouldn’t let it control me.
I had a pack. I had a mate. I had a son.
And I had a responsibility.
I was going to save Vivian. I was going to protect my family. I was going to face this darkness, head-on, with everything I had.
Because that’s what strong she-wolves did. They protected their loved ones, no matter the cost. And I was ready to fight.
Because even if it was just a dream, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something terrible was about to happen. And I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I didn’t at least try to stop it.
