                    Catrina POV:
“Your power is growing, Catrina,” Vivian said, her voice a soft whisper.
It sounded like the rustling of leaves in the wind. “But it’s still wild, untamed. Like a river that could overflow.”
I opened my eyes, blinking against the sunlight.
It was dappled, shining through the leaves of the old oak trees in the Mondragon garden.
The air smelled sweet – honeysuckle and damp earth. It was calming.
I’d been spending a lot of time out here, meditating, trying to make sense of the whispers I kept hearing, the strange energy buzzing inside me.
Ever since I saw Vivian in the hospital, the line between the spirit world and the real world felt blurry.
I could feel her presence even when I couldn’t see her. It was a comforting warmth that chased away my fears.
“I’m trying, Vivian,” I whispered.
“But it’s… too much. This power… I don’t know what to do with it.”
Vivian smiled.
She shimmered in the sunlight, her eyes, green like jade, filled with a mix of pride and sadness.
“You come from a powerful line of wolves, Catrina,” she said. “Your ancestors were seers, healers, warriors who could control the elements. It’s in your blood, in your very being.”
“But I don’t feel like a warrior,” I protested.
I looked down at my hands, my fingers tracing the wolf tooth on Lucas’s amulet. My parents had given it to him. It was a symbol of protection, of the ancient magic in our family.
“I’m just… Catrina. An omega who got pregnant by an Alpha. A mom trying to do right by her pup.”
“You’re so much more than that, Catrina,” Vivian insisted.
“Yes, you’re Rowan’s mate. You’re Lucas’s mother. But you’re also part of something bigger, something ancient. You have the power to change things, to heal the past, to build a better future for our kind.”
She stepped closer, her hand reaching out to touch my forehead. A jolt of energy, cool and tingling, shot through me.
“But great power comes with great responsibility, Catrina,” she said, her voice serious.
“You have to learn to control your gifts, to harness the magic inside you, or it will control you. It will destroy everything you love.”
I shuddered, remembering Marcus’s eyes, empty and cold, the way the Kezrach Larva had twisted him, turned him into a monster.
The thought that I could end up like that, filled with that same darkness… It terrified me.
“I’m scared, Vivian,” I confessed, my voice small.
“What if I can’t control it? What if I become like… Marcus?”
“You are not Marcus, Catrina,” Vivian said firmly.
“You’re kind. You’re compassionate. You love fiercely. You protect the ones you care about. Those are your strengths. Hold onto them. They will protect you from the darkness.”
I nodded, taking a deep breath. I had to be strong.
For Rowan, for Lucas, for the pack.
But I also had to be smart. I had to understand the dangers lurking in the shadows.
“Vivian… I need your help,” I said, my voice stronger now. “There’s… something else. Something I haven’t told you.”
I thought about Rowan’s encounter with Brock. About that sorcerer, Damien.
About the power he wanted, the darkness he radiated.
“Someone’s watching us, Vivian,” I whispered. “He wants… something from me. He said I was special. That my bloodline is powerful.”
Vivian’s face hardened, her eyes flashing with a cold fire.
“Tell me everything, Catrina,” she said, her voice urgent. “Don’t leave anything out.”
I told her about Brock’s confession, about Damien’s promises of power, about the strange symbol on the money. A symbol of ancient magic, of a power I couldn’t even imagine.
As I spoke, Vivian’s form shimmered, her glow fading. She looked worried, afraid.
“He’s real, Catrina,” she said, her voice grave.
“Damien. He’s been in the spirit realm for centuries. A sorcerer, hungry for power. He wants to control all magic, to use it for his own evil purposes.”
“But why me?” I asked, my voice trembling. “What does he want with me?”
“He’s afraid of you, Catrina,” Vivian said, her voice steady.
“He senses your potential, the power inside you. He knows your bloodline, your connection to the Magnus and Blanc families… It holds the key to ancient magic. A magic that could change the world.”
“He wants to use you, Catrina,” she continued, her voice fierce.
“He wants to twist your gifts, to turn your power into a weapon for himself.”
My stomach churned, a cold fear gripping me.
I’d been so busy trying to help the pack, to be a good mate and mother… I’d ignored the warnings, the feeling of being watched, hunted.
“What do I do, Vivian?” I asked, my voice desperate. “How do I stop him?”
Vivian put her hand on my shoulder. Her touch was cool, calming.
“You have to learn to control your power, Catrina,” she said.
“You have to understand the magic inside you. That’s the only way you’ll be strong enough to face Damien. To protect yourself, Rowan, and Lucas.”
“But I don’t know how,” I protested. “I don’t even know where to start.”
“I’ll teach you, Catrina,” Vivian said, her eyes filled with determination.
“I’ll show you everything I know. But you have to be willing to learn. To face your fears. To embrace the power you were born with.”
I looked into her eyes. I saw strength, courage, and love. And I knew I had to do this.
“I’m ready, Vivian,” I said, my voice strong. “Teach me.”
The sun was setting, painting the sky with shades of orange and purple. It was beautiful, but I felt a shiver run down my spine.
The darkness was coming, and with it, the shadows of danger.
“There you are,” a familiar voice said, warm and deep.
Rowan stepped into the garden, his eyes finding mine.
He was smiling, but there was a tiredness behind his eyes, a weight he carried that I knew I couldn’t fully share.
He’s been working so hard. Trying to rebuild the pack, to heal the wounds left by his father.
I stood up, my heart lifting at the sight of him. He pulled me into his arms, his embrace strong and familiar. His scent calms the fear that was growing inside me.
“I missed you,” he murmured, his lips brushing against my ear.
“What were you doing out here all alone?”
“Just… thinking,” I said, glancing at Vivian, who had faded into the shadows.
“It’s peaceful here.”
He kissed my forehead, his gaze sweeping over the garden. “It is. But it’s getting late. And someone is missing his mama.”
Rowan chuckled, taking my hand. “Come on, let’s go see our little wolf.”
As we walked back to the house, hand in hand, the setting sun casting long shadows behind us, a new feeling bloomed in my heart.
Not just love for Rowan, for Lucas, but a sense of purpose, a determination to face the challenges ahead…
