Rowan POV:
“He wants war, Rowan. He’s using Lucas as an excuse to invade, to take over more land, to grab more power.”
Isabelle’s voice was tight with anger.
We were in her office, maps spread out on the table, the weight of everything pressing down on us.
The worry for Lucas. The fear for our packs.
We were united now, allies against a common enemy.
It had been a week since Lucas disappeared. A week of searching, of dead ends, of hope fading with every passing hour. And now King Alaric, that power-hungry tyrant, was using our pain to get what he wanted.
He’s like a vulture, waiting for us to fall apart so he can pick at the bones.
My wolf snarled, wanting to fight, to tear him apart.
“He won’t get away with this,” I growled, my voice low and dangerous.
“He can’t use my son, my pack, like this.”
“He already is, Rowan,” Isabelle said, her voice sharp, her eyes flashing.
“He’s spreading lies to the other packs, making you look weak, saying you can’t even control your own mate or protect your own pup.”
Shame flooded me.
It felt like I was drowning in it, the weight of my failure, of my father’s legacy, crushing me.
She’s right. I am weak. I couldn’t even protect my own son.
“What are we going to do, Isabelle?” I asked, my voice tired. The fight seemed to have drained out of me.
“We need allies, Rowan,” she said, her gaze intense.
“We need someone strong to stand with us against Alaric. Someone who can see through his lies.”
But who? Who would risk their own pack to help us? Who would stand against the Alpha King?
Before I could ask, a deep rumble shook the mansion. It felt like the whole building trembled, a sound that sent shivers down my spine.
“Another Alpha.” My wolf growled, his senses on high alert.
“He’s here,” Isabelle whispered, her eyes wide with surprise.
“Who?” I asked, looking out the window, searching for any sign of movement.
“King Korvash,” she breathed. “Alpha of the Northern Range.”
My heart pounded. Hope and fear warred inside me.
King Korvash was the most powerful Alpha in the north. He was known for his wisdom, his strength.
He was the one who had given me the Luna’s Breath elixir after helping in his espionage mission, sadly the effort didn’t give me the results I wanted since my father didn’t take it.
But he was also a force to be reckoned with. Even King Alaric wanted his support.
“What does he want?” my wolf growled, suspicious. “Why is he here?”
We didn’t have to wait long to find out.
A tall, imposing figure strode into the room. He filled the space with his presence. His eyes, the color of ice, met mine. It was a challenge, a silent test.
“He’s here to judge you, Rowan.” My wolf growled. “To see if you’re worthy of his help.”
“Alpha Magnus,” King Korvash greeted me.
He radiated power, the authority of an Alpha who had ruled for centuries.
His gaze shifted to Isabelle, a flicker of respect in his eyes.
“Alpha Mondragon.”
“King Korvash,” Isabelle said, her voice calm and steady. She stood tall, her own Alpha aura a match for his.
“To what do we owe this… honor?”
“Word travels fast, Alpha Mondragon,” King Korvash said, his gaze returning to me, his expression unreadable.
“News of the pup’s… disappearance has reached the North. King Alaric is using this tragedy to make you look weak, Alpha Magnus. Unfit to lead.”
My jaw clenched, my wolf snarling. Alaric was a poisonous snake, spreading lies to turn our pain against us.
“He’s a coward,” I growled. “He hides behind words and uses others to get what he wants.”
“Indeed,” King Korvash agreed, his voice a low rumble.
“But words can be as dangerous as claws. They can turn hearts, spread fear, and start wars.”
He paused, his gaze piercing me. The silence was heavy, a question hanging in the air.
“Why didn’t you tell us, Rowan?” King Korvash asked, her voice sharp with disappointment. “Didn’t my clan tell you that you could always count on us?”
Shame burned my cheeks. I had no excuse. I’d been so lost in my own grief, my own doubts, that I’d pushed away the very people who could have helped me.
“I… I was afraid,” I confessed, my voice barely a whisper. I couldn’t even look at them.
“Afraid of looking weak. Afraid of failing my pack. Afraid of becoming… like my father.”
“Fear is powerful, Alpha Magnus,” King Korvash said, his voice surprisingly gentle. “But it can also cripple you. It can blind you to the truth. It can lead you to destruction.”
He stepped closer, his presence filling the room.
His Alpha aura was both intimidating and comforting.
“I’ve seen enough bloodshed, Rowan,” he said, his voice softer now, using my name like an old friend.
“Too much fighting, too much pain caused by greed and hate. There’s a prophecy, whispers of a werewolf who will either unite us all… or destroy us all. It worries me deeply.”
He looked at me, his gaze intense.
“You’re different, Rowan,” he said. “I see it in you. You have a chance to break the cycle of violence, to forge a new path for our kind.”
“...But you need help. You need guidance. You need to find strength, not through brute force, but through compassion.”
He glanced at Isabelle, a silent understanding passing between them.
They both knew the pressure I was under, the burden I carried.
“I’ve come to offer you my support, Rowan,” King Korvash said, looking at me, his eyes full of hope.
“I’ll help you find your pup. I’ll help you stand against King Alaric. And I’ll help you become the Alpha you were meant to be.”
His words, filled with power and wisdom, sparked a hope within me, a warmth that pushed back the despair.
“He believes in you, Rowan.” My wolf rumbled, his voice full of hope. “He sees your strength, even when you don’t.”
I looked at Isabelle, and she nodded. She understood. We both did.
King Korvash was offering us a chance, a new beginning.
“Thank you, King Korvash,” I said, my voice rough with emotion. I met his gaze, making a silent promise.
“I won’t let you down. I won’t let my pack down. And I will bring Lucas home.”
