Catrina POV:
“No!”
I screamed, a raw, animal sound ripping from my throat.
I watched in horror as Marcus, his eyes burning with Damien’s crimson fire, punched Rowan, sending him crashing into a stone pillar.
“Rowan!” My wolf howled inside me, her voice filled with fear and rage.
I wanted to rush to him, to protect him, to take the pain for him. But Damien’s magic held me back, an invisible wall separating me from the battle. I was trapped, helpless.
Useless. Weak. A burden.
Rowan’s words, Isabelle’s accusations… they echoed in my head, amplifying the fear, the despair.
“No! Don’t listen, Catrina! You’re strong. You have to fight!” Vivian’s voice cut through my panic, a beacon of hope in the swirling darkness.
She stood beside me, her ghostly form shimmering, her green eyes watching the battle.
“He’s using Marcus to distract you, Catrina,” Vivian said calmly. “He wants to weaken you, break your spirit. Don’t let him. Focus on what’s important. Focus on Lucas.”
She was right. My gaze darted to Lucas, lying on a stone altar nearby. He was so still, so pale.
Damien had put him there, a cruel reminder of what was at stake.
He’s using our pup as bait. He’s trying to break Rowan, to break me. My wolf snarled, wanting to attack, to tear Damien apart.
But I couldn’t reach Lucas. Not while Damien’s magic held me back. I had to break free, to get to my son.
But how? I’m just an omega. Weak. Powerless. The doubts, the old prejudices, whispered in my mind, trying to drag me down.
“You are not powerless, Catrina,” Vivian said firmly. “You have a strength Damien can’t even imagine. A power that’s in your blood, a legacy he can’t touch, can’t corrupt.”
She put her hand on my shoulder, and her touch was cool, calming.
“Find that strength, Catrina,” she urged. “It’s your birthright. The power of your love, your wolf, your ancestors. The power… of Lyra.”
Lyra. The identity from my past life, the princess, the warrior.
I’d seen glimpses of her, of her love for Kael, her defiance, her tragic end. Her courage resonated within me, like a forgotten song stirring in my soul.
“She’s a part of you, Catrina. A part of us.” My wolf growled, awed. “Let her in. Let her help you.”
Could I trust her? Could I trust the ghost of another wolf to guide me, to help me save my son?
“She loved fiercely, Catrina. She fought for what she believed in, even when it cost her everything.” Vivian’s voice was a gentle reminder of Lyra’s sacrifices, her battles, her unwavering love.
I looked at Rowan. His fur was matted with blood, and his amber eyes blazed with fury as he fought the puppet wearing his father’s face.
He was losing. He was exhausted, his movements slowing, the weight of his grief and guilt dragging him down.
“He needs you, Catrina.” My wolf’s voice was urgent. “Lucas needs you. Lyra needs you. Let her in. Unleash your power. Save them.”
“I… I don’t know how,” I whispered. I was still afraid, afraid of the power inside me, the magic I couldn’t control.
“Trust me, Catrina,” Vivian said, her gaze steady. “Lyra will guide you. Just… let her in.”
I closed my eyes and breathed deeply. The air reeked of magic, of fear, of Rowan’s blood.
But beneath it all, I felt another presence. A warmth, a strength, a familiar energy.
A wolf’s spirit, fierce and protective. A princess’s heart, brave and kind.
“Please, Catrina.” A voice, soft and sad, whispered in my soul. “Let me help. Let me fight”
It was Lyra.
“Yes,” I breathed. It felt like a surrender, a welcoming, a merging of souls.
I opened my eyes. The world shifted, the colors of the spirit realm more intense.
Magic surged through me, making me gasp, my body trembling. My wolf howled, a primal sound of awakening.
I could feel Lyra’s strength pouring into me, her memories, her emotions, her fierce love for Kael, her pain, her anger. It was a torrent of energy, breaking the chains of my fear, my self-doubt.
I wasn’t just Catrina anymore. The awkward omega. The desperate mother.
I was also Lyra, the silver wolf, the warrior princess. And together, we would fight.
Silver light exploded from me, a blinding flash. Damien shielded his eyes, surprise and fear flickering in his crimson gaze.
I felt my bones shift, my muscles lengthen, my senses sharpen. The world came into focus. I could smell, hear, feel everything with an intensity I’d never known before.
My human form melted away. I was a wolf now. A silver wolf. Lyra’s wolf. And I was powerful.
I lunged, my powerful legs propelling me across the chamber. My claws were extended, my fangs bared. I moved like a silver blur, intercepting Damien’s attack, shielding Rowan.
“Rowan, get Lucas!” I snarled, my voice a deep growl, a mix of my voice and Lyra’s. “I’ll handle Damien.”
He hesitated, his amber eyes wide with awe and concern. His Alpha instincts wanted to protect me, but he could sense the ancient power radiating from me.
He knew this was my fight.
He nodded, our gazes locking for a brief moment, a silent promise passing between us. Then he was gone, racing towards Lucas, his scent a reminder of the life we were fighting for, the love that fueled us.
I turned to face Damien, my silver fur bristling, my eyes burning with a fire that could melt mountains.
“You made a mistake, Damien,” I growled, my voice a low rumble that shook the chamber. “You thought you could control me, use me. You thought you could steal my son, break my mate. You were wrong.”
I circled him, moving fluidly, gracefully. I could feel his magic, a heavy, oppressive weight, but it didn’t scare me anymore.
I had my own power now. A power fueled by a mother’s instinct to protect.
“I am not the omega you think I am, Damien,” I snarled. “I am Catrina. And I am Lyra. And I am… something more. Something you can’t control. Something you can’t destroy.”
And I, the silver she-wolf, would fight with everything I had.
