Catrina POV:
Damien’s fear vanished. Cold fury twisted his face. He raised his hands, and dark energy crackled around him.
“You think you can defeat me, Lyra?” he snarled. “I am Damien! Master of the ancient arts! I control this realm!”
“You control nothing, Damien,” Lyra retorted, her voice ringing with power.
“You’re a parasite, feeding on pain, twisting love and grief to fuel your own pathetic desires.”
“Pathetic?” Damien scoffed, his voice dripping with disdain.
“Love is pathetic. It’s a fleeting emotion, a weakness that mortals cling to. I offer you a chance to transcend such limitations, Lyra, to embrace the power that is rightfully yours, to rule this realm by my side. And you squander it on… feelings?”
“You mistake possessiveness for love, Damien,” Lyra snarled, her silver fur bristling.
“Your love was a cage, a prison designed to trap me, to bind me to your will. True love liberates, empowers, gives strength. It's a force you can't understand, a power you can’t control.”
She lunged, a blur of silver fur and fangs.
Damien threw up a shield of dark energy, but Lyra slammed into it, shaking the entire chamber.
Shockwaves rippled through the spirit realm. It was like an earthquake.
“Do you think this display of brute force impresses me, Lyra?” Damien sneered, his crimson eyes burning with cold fire.
“I’ve toppled empires, shattered dynasties, broken wolves far stronger than you. Your love, your precious bond with this… pretender… it means nothing in the face of true power.”
“Your power is a lie, Damien,” she snarled, her amber eyes blazing.
“It’s built on fear, on manipulation, on the broken souls you’ve trapped in this desolate realm. But my power… my power comes from love. A love that lasts through lifetimes, that even you can’t destroy.”
She attacked again, swift and relentless.
She was a whirlwind of silver fury, her claws tearing at Damien’s defenses, her teeth snapping at his throat.
Damien, his face twisted in rage, fought back. He hurled bolts of dark energy, conjured shadowy creatures, even tried to twist the air itself to trap her, to choke her.
But Lyra’s wolf was too fast, too agile. She dodged and weaved through his attacks, her silver fur shimmering, her eyes burning with a fierce light.
“You fight like a wild animal, Lyra,” Damien sneered, his voice laced with disdain.
“Uncontrolled, undisciplined. Your love has made you weak, clouded your judgment. Embrace the power within you, the darkness that can make you truly strong. Join me, Lyra, and we will rule together. We will reshape this world in our image.”
“My love is my strength, Damien,” Lyra roared, her voice echoing through the chamber, a challenge to his darkness, a beacon of hope in the swirling chaos. “And it will be your undoing.”
I watched, my heart pounding, as the battle raged. It was a clash of light and shadow, of magic and pure, primal fury. Lyra’s love for Kael, her anger at Damien’s betrayal, fueled her every move.
“She’s amazing.” My wolf whispered. “She’s everything we could be, if we could just find that power within us.”
But I was still afraid. Afraid of this power, of getting lost in Lyra’s rage, of becoming something I didn’t recognize.
Then I saw Rowan. He was across the chamber, holding Lucas close, his eyes fixed on me, his face a mixture of worry and love. He had our pup back!
“He’s safe, Catrina. He’s safe.” My wolf purred, a wave of relief washing over me.
But the fight wasn’t over. Lyra was still battling Damien, her silver fur stained with blood.
“He’s getting weaker, Catrina. But he’s still dangerous. You have to help her.” My wolf urged.
She was right. I couldn’t just stand here doing nothing. I had to help. But how?
“Let Lyra fight, Catrina. Let her finish this.”
“But… I’m scared,” I whispered, my voice shaking. “What if I… what if I lose myself? What if I can’t control her power?”
“You won’t lose yourself, Catrina. She’s a part of you, but you’re still you. And she needs you. She needs your permission to fight, to unleash her full power.”
“Permission?” I echoed, confused. “But she’s already fighting.”
“Not fully. Not yet. She’s holding back, afraid of hurting you. But she can’t beat Damien alone. You have to trust her, Catrina. Trust yourself. Let her fight.”
I could feel like Lyra was getting tired. She needed my help.
And Rowan… he needed me too. He was watching me, his gaze full of hope and fear.
He was pleading with me to be strong, to be the mate who could fight alongside him.
“He believes in you, Catrina.” My wolf’s voice was full of love. “Let go of the fear. Embrace your power.”
I took a deep breath, and the fear receded. A surge of determination, a fierce love for my mate, my son, my pack, filled me.
“I’m ready, Lyra.” I said, my voice echoing in my mind. “Let’s do this.”
And as Lyra heard me, as our souls fully merged, the air crackled with energy. Silver light exploded from me, blindingly bright.
I felt the shift, the transformation. My body changed, my senses sharpened.
“You think you can defeat me with this… puppet, Damien?” I snarled, my voice a deep growl.
“You underestimate us.”
I could feel Lyra’s memories, her fighting skills, flowing through me. I was faster, stronger, more agile than I’d ever been.
Damien stumbled back, his eyes wide with shock.
His control over the spirit realm flickered, the shadows that fueled his magic fading.
“But how…?” he whispered, awe and fear in his voice.
“You thought you could control her, Damien?” I snarled, my silver fur bristling. “You thought you could break her, use her? You were wrong. She's stronger than you ever imagined.”
I lunged, my fangs bared, aiming for his throat. He barely dodged, his dark magic flaring, creating a shield just in time.
“You can’t win, Damien,” I growled. “Your magic is weak. It comes from darkness and despair. But love... love always wins.”
The battle raged. Silver and shadow clashed, claws and fangs against dark magic.
But I could feel the tide turning. Damien’s power was waning, his control slipping.
