Derek POV:
“Isabelle! What a surprise. Didn’t expect to see you here.”
I tried to keep my voice casual, but I could feel my wolf stirring, a low rumble of interest.
Isabelle Mondragon stood in the lobby of the Magnus Hotel, a vision in a sleek black pantsuit, her hair pulled back, her emerald eyes sharp and assessing as she looked around the busy lobby.
“She’s here to see Dad? What’s she doing here?” My wolf growled, curious.
His gaze lingered on her, on the way she carried herself, graceful and powerful.
“Dad’s in a meeting,” I said, meeting her gaze.
I couldn’t help but challenge her a little, a playful glint in my eyes.
“She’s Rowan’s Fiancee, Derek. Off-limits. Remember that.” My wolf growled a warning, but even he sounded intrigued. He was drawn to her, to the curve of her lips, the fire in her eyes.
“Anything I can help you with while you wait, Alpha?” I asked, my voice smooth and charming.
I was good at playing the role of the polite son, but inside, my wolf was restless, his primal instincts pulling me towards her.
“I doubt that, Derek,” she said, her smile a little colder now.
It was a reminder of the boundaries between us, the packs, the expectations, the duties that kept us apart.
“My business with your father is… pack related. It’s a bit sensitive.”
“Of course,” I said, my smile widening, a hint of mischief in my eyes.
I enjoyed this little dance we were doing, this push and pull, this testing of boundaries. The spark between us was thrilling.
“But even the busiest Alpha needs a break now and then. Can I offer you something to drink? A tour? Or maybe… a sparring session in the training yard?”
I watched her, my wolf’s senses alert, taking in her every reaction, the way her scent shifted, the way her eyes narrowed. Our wolves were circling each other, a primal dance of challenge and attraction.
“You’re a bold one, Derek,” she said, a low rumble in her voice.
Amusement flickered in her eyes, a hint of warmth softening her usual icy demeanor. “Testing the limits, are we? Or are you just… bored?”
“She likes it, Derek.” My wolf growled, pleased. “She likes the attention. The challenge.”
“Never bored, Alpha,” I said smoothly, my gaze holding hers.
Under the Pack loyalty, there was a wolf inside me who recognized her strength, her power… and wanted her.
“Just… appreciative of beauty. And strength. And… a certain wild spirit that reminds me… life’s too short to always play by the rules.”
I waited for her response, my heart pounding. This was a dangerous game we were playing, a game with high stakes.
“You’re playing with fire, Derek,” she said, her voice a low thrum, her gaze unwavering.
There was a spark between us, a dangerous attraction that she was trying to resist.
“Rowan is your brother and your future alpha. And he’s… my betrothed.”
“Betrothed, yes,” I conceded, a mischievous smile on my lips.
“But not yet… mated. And until those vows are spoken, until the bond is sealed… well, a wolf can dream, can’t he?”
I stepped closer, letting my scent, a mix of pine and leather and a hint of wildness, drift towards her.
It was a challenge to her Alpha dominance, a reminder of the primal instincts that pulsed beneath the surface.
Her gaze flickered, and a blush crept up her cheeks. The icy facade cracked for a moment, revealing the woman beneath the Alpha, the woman who longed for a connection that wasn’t just duty and politics.
“She’s tempted, Derek. She feels it, too.” My wolf growled, his tail wagging.
“This is dangerous territory, Derek,” she whispered, her eyes still holding mine, but now filled with a hint of uncertainty.
She was fighting against her own desires, her loyalty to her pack, to the alliance that bound us.
“This… flirtation… It's unwise. It could have… consequences.”
“Consequences?” I echoed, my smile widening, my heart pounding with a thrill that was both terrifying and exciting.
“I’ve never been afraid of the consequences, Alpha. They make life more interesting.”
I leaned in, never breaking eye contact. My wolf’s presence was strong, a silent challenge, a promise.
“Will she resist? Or will she give in? It’s her choice, Derek. But be careful what you wish for. This game… it has no rules.”
My wolf’s warning echoed in my mind, a counterpoint to the pounding of my heart, the heat that was building in my blood.
“Derek,” she said, her voice a husky whisper, “This is… inappropriate. Rowan is your brother. We have an alliance to consider. Our packs…”
“Our packs are strong, Alpha,” I interrupted, my voice low and persuasive. “They can handle a little… tension between us. Besides, what’s a little harmless flirtation between two wolves? Especially when there’s… a spark.”
I could see the conflict in her eyes, the struggle between her duty and her desire. It was a struggle I knew all too well.
But I was determined to tempt her, to make her forget about the rules, just for a moment.
“She’s not made of ice, Derek. She’s a she-wolf, just like any other. She craves passion, excitement, just like the rest of us.”
“You’re wrong, Derek,” Isabelle said, her voice a little shaky.
“This isn’t a game. This is… real life. Our choices have consequences. And this… this attraction between us… it’s dangerous. It could hurt everyone.”
“Maybe a little danger is what we both need, Alpha,” I said, my gaze holding hers. “A little excitement to shake things up. A little fire to melt the ice.”
I saw a flicker of something in her eyes, something that wasn’t anger or disapproval. It was… curiosity? Desire?
Don’t let her push you away, Derek. She wants this, too. She’s just afraid.
“You’re a reckless fool, Derek Magnus,” Isabelle said, But she didn’t step back. She didn’t tell me to leave.
“And you’re a beautiful, powerful Alpha who’s trying too hard to deny what she feels,” I countered, my voice a soft growl.
“Let down your guard, Isabelle. Just for a moment. Let’s see where this spark leads.”
The air between us crackled with tension. The lobby, the pack, the whole world, faded away.
It was just me and her, two wolves caught in a dangerous dance, a forbidden attraction that threatened to consume us both.
