Vivian POV:
“He’s pushing her away, Lyra. Rowan … he’s hurting her again.”
My voice was a whisper, lost in the swirling mists of the spirit realm. I watched Rowan and Catrina through the veil, their images flickering before me.
They were in a library, surrounded by books and the quiet murmurs of humans. It was a normal, peaceful scene, but I could sense the tension between them, the unspoken pain.
Lyra, her silver form shimmering beside me, sighed. Her amber eyes, now flecked with gold, were filled with sadness.
“He’s afraid, Vivian,” she said. “He remembers pieces of the past. The pain. The loss. He thinks he’s protecting her by pushing her away.”
My heart ached as I watched them.
Rowan sat stiffly, his amber eyes shadowed, his gaze fixed on the book in front of him. I could smell his scent – pine, leather, and a longing that made my wolf whimper.
It was a mother’s instinct, the need to comfort him, to hold him close.
Catrina, bless her heart, was trying so hard.
She smiled, her eyes warm and inviting, but Rowan seemed determined to ignore her.
Her lavender scent, a delicate whisper in the air, was a reminder of the bond they’d shared, a bond he’d tried to break.
“He’s a fool, Vivian.” My wolf snarled, anger and frustration in her voice. “He’s throwing away the very thing that could save him.”
“He doesn’t understand, Lyra,” I whispered, pleading for patience.
“He’s been taught that love is weakness, that an Alpha has to be strong and ruthless. He’s trying to be what his father expects, what the pack wants. He’s trying to control his destiny.”
But destiny had a way of working things out, of breaking down the walls we built, of washing away our fears.
And Rowan, with his kind heart, his connection to Catrina, was fighting against a current that would eventually pull him back to her, to the destiny that awaited them.
“But how can we help him, Vivian?” Lyra’s voice echoed my own fears. He can’t even hear us. And Damien’s shadow is still out there. His magic is still a threat.
“We have to find a way, Lyra,” I said, my voice firm.
A mother’s love, a she-wolf’s loyalty, burned inside me.
“We have to help Catrina awaken her powers. She’s the key. She’s the only one who can defeat Damien. The only one who can save Rowan.”
I closed my eyes, focusing on Catrina. I tried to reach her, to send her a message, to help her understand the power that was inside her.
“Catrina… can you hear me? Can you feel the magic in your blood? The strength of your wolf?”
But my whispers were met with silence. Something was blocking me, a force that felt both familiar and alien.
“Damien.” My wolf growled, her fur bristling. She knew that scent, that dark magic, all too well.
“He’s blocking you, Vivian.” Lyra’s voice confirmed my wolf’s fear.
“He’s shielding her from you. He’s afraid of what she might become.”
“We have to break through, Lyra,” I said, my voice a low growl.
I was angry, a mother’s fury rising inside me.
“We have to reach her. Before it’s too late. Before Damien…”
My words trailed off. A chilling realization hit me, a premonition of a danger that went beyond
Rowan and Catrina, a threat to the entire world.
“He’s planning something, Vivian. Something terrible.” Lyra’s voice was a whisper of dread.
I focused my senses, searching the spirit realm for any trace of Damien, for a clue to his intentions.
A wave of coldness, of darkness, washed over me.
It was a stench of decay and ancient power, a scent that made my wolf whimper in fear.
And then I saw him.
A figure cloaked in shadows, his eyes burning with a malevolent green fire. He was a tear in the fabric of the spirit realm, radiating an ancient, corrupt magic that made my blood run cold.
“You shouldn't be here, Vivian,” he hissed, his voice like a serpent slithering through the mists.
“You have no right to interfere.”
“Who are you?” I growled, my wolf standing tall, her amber eyes blazing with a mother’s fury.
“I am… a messenger,” he said, his voice a mocking chuckle. The sound echoed through the spirit realm, making the ethereal trees tremble.
“A harbinger of what’s to come. A servant of… a power greater than your own.”
“Damien,” I whispered.
The name felt like a curse on my lips, a bitter reminder of the sorcerer who had stolen my life, my freedom, my ability to protect my son.
The figure bowed, a mockery of respect, his green eyes glittering with malice.
“You were warned, Vivian. You were told to stay out of this. To let destiny unfold. You defied us. And now… you will pay the price.”
“What are you talking about?” I demanded, my wolf’s claws extending, a silver flash in the swirling mists.
“What is Damien planning?”
“He is… reawakening, Vivian,” the figure hissed, his voice a promise of destruction.
“His power grows stronger every day. And soon… he will be unstoppable.”
“He’s after Catrina, isn’t he?” I growled, my wolf pacing restlessly. My instincts screamed at me to protect her.
“He wants her power. Her magic. He wants to use her.”
“You ask too many questions, Vivian.” The figure’s voice hardened.
The shadows around him swirled, taking the shape of a monstrous creature, its eyes burning with green fire.
“Your interference is not welcome. Step aside, spirit wolf, and let destiny run its course. Or face the consequences.”
“I’ll never step aside,” I snarled, my wolf’s fangs bared, her amber eyes meeting the creature’s gaze.
“I will protect my son. I will protect Catrina. And I will stop Damien.”
The creature laughed, a hollow, chilling sound.
“You are a fool, Vivian,” he hissed. “A pawn in a game you don't understand. Damien’s plans are already in motion. Your son, your precious omega… they are both… doomed.”
And then he was gone, melting back into the shadows.
I stood there, trembling, my heart pounding, my wolf whimpering. His words, a chilling prophecy, weighed heavily on my soul.
“He’s right, Vivian.” Lyra’s voice was a whisper of despair. “We’re too late. Damien’s back. And this time… he won’t be stopped.”
