Catrina POV:
“Get her out of the van. Take her to the Alpha.”
A gruff voice jolted me awake. I blinked, my vision blurry, my head pounding.
The smells – musk, unwashed bodies, and a wild, untamed energy – made me gag.
“Where are we? What happened?” My wolf whimpered, scared and confused.
I tried to sit up, but a rough hand pushed me back against a hard surface. It was too dark to tell if it was a bench or a table.
The only light came from a flickering bulb, casting creepy shadows on the walls.
“Easy there, omega. You’re not going anywhere.”
A wolf with dark, matted fur loomed over me, his red eyes glowing unnaturally.
He grinned, a cruel, mean grin, and his scent mixed with something rotten, made my stomach churn.
I tried to fight him, but he was too strong. I felt weak, my body still recovering from… from what? I couldn’t remember.
My memory was a blank, a terrifying reminder of the amnesia that had stolen my past.
“Useless. Weak. A burden.” The words echoed in my mind, making my fear worse.
“No, Catrina. We’re not weak.” My wolf’s voice was a low growl, a spark of defiance in the darkness. “We have to fight.”
“Let me go!” I shouted, my voice a hoarse whisper.
I tried to sound strong, but I felt powerless. “Who are you? What do you want?”
The wolf chuckled, a harsh, humorless sound. “You’ll find out soon enough, omega. The Alpha wants to see you.”
He yanked me to my feet, his claws digging into my arm. The pain made me cry out, but my cry was swallowed by the silence of the room.
I was trapped in this place, a prison of stone and shadows, the scent of untamed wolves heavy in the air.
They dragged me through dark corridors, the smell of damp earth and decay thick and heavy. I stumbled, my legs weak, my body trembling with fear.
It was a primal fear, a feeling that I’d… felt before?
“We’ve been here before, Catrina.” A voice whispered in my mind.
It was a cold, sharp voice, like a memory from a nightmare, a shadowy figure with red eyes. We remember…
But the memory faded, leaving behind a chilling emptiness, a void that mirrored the darkness surrounding me.
They shoved me into a small, windowless room and slammed the door shut. My heart pounded in my chest.
“We’re trapped, Catrina.” My wolf howled, mourning the loss of my freedom, the life I'd tried to build, the love I'd…
Love?
The thought sparked in the darkness.
A memory, a scent of pine and leather, a warmth spreading through me, a longing I couldn’t explain, a bond I couldn’t deny.
My wolf growled, a low rumble of defiance.
“He’ll find us, Catrina. He won’t let us down.”
But doubt crept in, a cold, hard reality. Rowan’s rejection, his coldness, his words…
”It was a mistake.”
The echo of his rejection stung.
“He doesn’t want you, Catrina. He’s an Alpha. You’re just… a broken omega.” The voice of doubt coiled around my heart, squeezing the breath from my lungs.
I sank to the floor, my back against the cold stone wall.
I closed my eyes, trying to block out the smells, the sounds, the fear.
But I couldn’t block out the memories that flickered at the edges of my awareness, the whispers of a past I couldn’t remember, a future I couldn’t escape.
“What are we going to do, Catrina?” My wolf whimpered, despair in her voice.
“We’re alone. He’s… he’s not coming for us.”
But even as despair threatened to overwhelm me, a flicker of defiance sparked inside me.
It was the silver she-wolf from my dreams, the warrior princess, the one who defied everyone.
Maybe… maybe I could fight back.
“We’re not alone, Catrina.” A voice, soft and sad, whispered in my soul.
It was a memory of a love that defied lifetimes, a bond that death couldn't break.
“I’m here. I’m with you. And I won’t let them hurt you.”
Lyra.
“But… I don’t know how to fight,” I whispered, my voice trembling. I felt so weak, so human.
“I’m not strong like you. I’m not… a warrior.”
“You are stronger than you think, Catrina.”
Lyra’s voice was a wave of warmth and strength, reminding me of the power that was inside me, the magic in my blood, the legacy of my ancestors.
“Let me help you, Catrina. Let me fight. Let me show you what a true Luna can do.”
“But I’m scared, Lyra,” I confessed, my voice shaking.
I was afraid of losing myself, of giving in to her power.
“What if I can’t control it? What if I… become a monster?”
You won’t become a monster, Catrina.” Lyra’s voice was firm, confident.
“You have a good heart. Your love… it’s your strength, not your weakness. Trust me. Trust yourself. Let me in.”
I took a deep breath. The fear started to fade, replaced by a surge of determination, a wild energy pulsing through my veins.
It made me feel… powerful.
“”I’m ready, Lyra.” I whispered, a surrender, a giving in to a destiny I couldn't escape.
As Lyra’s spirit surged through me, as our wolves and our powers merged, the air crackled with energy. Silver light exploded from me, filling the room.
I felt the shift, the transformation. My body changed, my senses sharpened.
I wasn’t in my human form anymore. I was a wolf.
A silver wolf.
Lyra’s wolf.
And I was magnificent.
The door burst open, and three Bloodmoon wolves stepped into the room.
Their eyes glowed red, their fangs were bared, and their scent, a mix of pine and musk and bloodlust, made me snarl, a deep, guttural sound of defiance.
“Well, well, well… look who’s finally showing her true colors,” the lead wolf sneered.
He looked at me, his red eyes widening in surprise. A flicker of fear crossed his face.
“You’re not what we expected, omega.”
“And you,” I snarled, my voice a deep, powerful growl, a mix of my voice and Lyra’s, “have no idea who you’re dealing with.”
I lunged, a blur of silver fur and flashing claws, my fangs bared.
They were unprepared for my speed, for the power that radiated from me.
The battle had begun.
