Four months after escaping my hometown, my belly displayed the undeniable truth: Rowan's child was on the way.
Life wasn't easy. Being a single, pregnant 18-year-old in a new city was lonely and scary. But being anonymous was nice - no one judged me for being unmarried and young.
Except for the whole "broke" thing. No money, no job, and no way to tell my parents the truth about how I got pregnant.
Since I’m just a fresh high school graduate without any experience, here I ended, as a maid at The Magnus - the fancy hotel chain owned by Rowan's family. Talk about a cruel joke.
Beggars can't be choosers, right? At least this job gave me a roof over my head, even if it was a leaky storage room in the basement, full of dusty furniture and dirty laundry.
Living with the hotel's trash was humiliating, but I tried not to think about it.
I barely had enough money to survive. Leftover scraps from the hotel restaurants were my meals. Every penny I earned went into a stash for the baby.
Today, I was cleaning the fancy penthouse suite at the top of the hotel. Rumor had it the whole floor was reserved for the Magnus family whenever they graced us with their presence.
I hurried down the hall. Finish this floor, and get back to the basement. Safe and familiar. Knocking on the first carved door, I waited for a beat, then used the master key.
"Housekeeping," I called out.
Stepping inside the bedroom, a wave of smells hit me - sweat, sex, and strong liquor.
My omega senses screamed. I fought back nausea.
Taking a deep breath, I pushed those thoughts away. This wasn't the worst mess I'd cleaned in my time as a maid.
Strip the bed, laundry bin, disinfectant spray, fresh sheets - that was the plan. Maybe then, the room wouldn't tell stories of whatever went down.
I leaned my belly against the bed to grab the red sheets. As I pulled, a strong smell hit me, making me dizzy. Rowan's scent. Thick and musky, mixed with sweat and something more. It was heavy, almost choking.
My body was all confused. Pregnancy hormones, that's all it was. I tried to stay focused.
But then, a wave of nausea hit. Groaning, I rushed to the bathroom and barely made it to the toilet before throwing up.
After a few scary minutes, the nausea finally eased, leaving me weak and sweaty. Just then, I heard the other bathroom click open.
Please, anyone but him.
As I peeked around the corner, there he was, Rowan Magnus himself. He was only wearing a fluffy white towel, barely hanging on his toned body.
Water dripped down his sunkissed skin, making his chest and abs look even more incredible. His dark hair, usually perfect, was messy from the shower. Even though he looked tired, his golden eyes were super intense.
But what really freaked me out were the dark marks on his neck and chest - like hickeys from a crazy night. He looked like a dangerous predator.
Rowan cleared his throat, he seemed unimpressed to see me after all those months.
"Move” he said coldly.
"I-I'm sorry, sir," I stammered, looking away. "Leaving right now."
Just then, the smell of my pregnancy filled the air, sweet and earthy, impossible to hide from an alpha's nose. Rowan froze, his muscles bunching up.
He stared at my stomach with an intensity I could almost feel.
Rowan's face twisted into a mask of anger and disgust. I flinched, scared of the storm brewing in his golden eyes.
"Why do you have my scent...and carry my offspring?" he growled, each word a deep threat that made me shake.
"I don't…" I said, my voice shaky.
Rowan's eyes were like burning embers. "Don't lie, omega! Don't tell me some other wolf is the father?"
His words stung. How could he think so poorly of me? Did he think I was some kind of liar who'd sleep around?
"Hold on, Rowan Magnus," I said, trying to sound strong.
"You may hate me and the baby, but it's yours! This baby is part of you, just like any fancy heir with a high-class she-wolf!"
Before I knew it, I was standing right in front of him, head held high, meeting his gaze.
"You can be part of this or not. But either way, I'm raising this baby and showering it with love. No matter how lowly you think I am as an omega, this child is a gift, the best one I could ever ask for. Even if its father doesn't see it."
The anger left Rowan's face, replaced by a strange surprise. It was like he was seeing me - the strong, caring mother this baby would have, hidden inside my small frame.
He stared for a moment, his fierce eyes softening a little as he saw me gently hold my pregnant belly.
"Get out," he said, barely holding back his anger. “You shouldn’t be here”
I wanted to argue. But before I could even open my mouth, the door clicked open.
A stunning woman walked in, filling the room with her presence. Her dark hair flowed down her back. She wasn't an ordinary woman – this was an Alpha, and a powerful one at that.
Rowan's eyes grew big. He held the towel around him tighter.
"Isabelle," he said in a scared voice.
The woman looked at everything closely. Her eyes went from Rowan's messy hair to my maid uniform with my pregnant belly. Then she started smiling slowly.
"Well, well, well, Rowan Magnus," she said in a fun way,
"I didn't know you liked she-wolves like...that." Her voice dripped with laughter.
"Is this maid your new toy?"
"Isabelle, please," Rowan pleaded, his voice strained. "This isn't what it looks like."
"Oh, isn't it?" Isabelle raised an eyebrow, her smile turning icy. "Then enlighten me, fiancé. What exactly is going on here?"
Her words hit me like a slap. My heart dropped. Suddenly, everything made sense. Fiancé? Rowan had a fiancée?
