                    Catrina POV:
"Where did you take me?"
My voice echoed in the darkness. It was a tiny act of defiance against the fear that was crushing me.
The darkness was absolute. It swallowed every sound, every scent, even the comforting presence of my wolf.
“Where is he? Where’s Rowan?” My wolf whimpered, her voice a distant echo in the blackness.
I remembered the shadowy figure, the scent of magic and decay, the feeling of being dragged away. And then… nothing.
"Welcome back, Catrina."
Damien’s voice, smooth and cruel, sent shivers down my spine. A faint light flickered, revealing a stone chamber, its walls bare.
The air was damp and heavy, with a metallic smell that made my stomach churn.
Damien stood before me, a tall, shadowy figure. His eyes burned like crimson embers, a predator’s gaze that stripped away any courage I had left.
"Where am I?" I asked, my voice trembling.
My heart pounded in my chest. I tried to stand, but my legs were weak. Whatever magic he’d used to knock me out, it was still affecting me.
He chuckled, a low, menacing sound that echoed in the small room. “A place where those fools can’t reach you. Their pathetic attempts at rescue… they'll fail.”
“Rowan…” My wolf whimpered, her voice full of fear and longing. “He promised he’d come for us.”
But doubt, cold and sharp, whispered in my mind. Rowan had already broken his promises.
He’d pushed me away, chosen a different path.
He doesn’t want us, Catrina. He never did.
"Without your precious Alpha, your so-called friends, how brave are you now, little omega?" Damien taunted, a cruel smile twisting his lips.
He circled me, his presence suffocating, his dark magic pressing down on me, blocking out my wolf, my strength.
"Don’t underestimate me, Damien." I tried to sound strong, but my voice shook. “My strength doesn’t come from them. It comes from… inside. From… Lyra.”
I closed my eyes, reaching for Lyra’s strength, the power that had surged through me during the battle with the Bloodmoons.
But there was nothing. It was like hitting a wall, a barrier blocking my magic.
“He’s blocked her, Catrina.” My wolf howled, her voice full of despair. “We’re alone.”
“Still clinging to that pathetic hope, Catrina?” Damien chuckled.
He stopped in front of me, his shadow looming over me. His scent, a mix of incense and decay, made me gag.
“You’re alone now. Your Alpha can’t save you. And your powers… well, let’s just say I’ve taken care of them”
He reached out, his fingers cold and skeletal, brushing against my throat.
“Let’s see how brave you are now, without your… borrowed power.”
I tried to summon Lyra’s strength, to unleash the power, but nothing happened. I was trapped. My magic was gone.
“What… what have you done?” I asked, my voice trembling.
“Just a little… insurance, my dear,” Damien purred, his touch lingering on my throat, his fingers tightening slightly.
“A little reminder… that you’re mine now, Catrina. You belong to me. And no one… can save you.”
“You’re wrong, Damien.” I tried to sound defiant, but my voice cracked. The fear was winning.
“Rowan will find me. He’ll stop you.”
Damien laughed, a cruel, mocking sound that echoed through the chamber.
“Your Alpha? Your precious Rowan? He’s pathetic, Catrina. A shadow of the Alpha he could have been. He’s abandoned you. Just like he abandoned his own mother. He’s not coming. He doesn’t care.”
His words were like a poisoned arrow, twisting the knife of doubt, of rejection, of loneliness, that had haunted me since the accident.
“He’s right, Catrina. Rowan doesn’t care.” The voice of doubt whispered in my mind. “He’s moved on.”
“You’re lying, Damien,” I whispered, my voice breaking.
I was clinging to a hope that was fading, a love that was dying. “He wouldn’t… he wouldn’t abandon me. He promised…”
“Promises mean nothing, Catrina,” Damien sneered, his grip tightening, his red eyes burning with malice.
“Especially the promises of a weak Alpha blinded by his own desires. You’re mine now, Catrina. And you will obey.”
“Never!” I choked out, a last, desperate attempt to hold onto my own will, a spark of the she-wolf, the warrior, I’d glimpsed in my dreams.
“You’ll never control me! I won’t let you!”
He laughed again, mocking me.
“You think you have a choice, Catrina?” he purred, his voice a silken thread, his words wrapping around my mind, seeping into my soul, weakening my resolve.
“You are an omega. You were born to obey, to serve, to… belong. And you… you will belong to me. Body and soul.”
He leaned in close, his breath hot on my cheek. “You’ll be my queen, Catrina,” he whispered.
His voice was a seductive promise, a threat, a prophecy.
“And together… we will rule this world.”
His lips brushed against mine, a violation, a claim, that made my wolf snarl. I tried to break free, but it was no use.
His magic held me captive, my body trembling, my mind reeling, the darkness closing in.
The last image I saw, before the world faded away, was a flicker of Rowan’s amber eyes, a whisper of his scent, a memory of a love that had been erased.
And as I drifted into unconsciousness, Damien’s laughter, a triumphant roar, echoed in my ears.
I’d lost. He’d won.
He’s won, Catrina. My wolf’s voice was a mournful whimper. He’s won.
“Wake up, Catrina.”
A voice, a whisper, pulled me back from the darkness. It was a flicker of light, a spark of hope, a voice I thought I’d never hear again.
Rowan.
I opened my eyes. The darkness faded, replaced by a hazy golden light. I smelled pine and woodsmoke, a familiar warmth that reminded me of… home? Love?
It was a connection that even Damien’s magic, even my broken memories, couldn’t sever.
“Rowan?” I whispered.
“He’s not here, Catrina,” a cold, sharp voice said. It snapped me back to reality, to the danger that still surrounded me.
I looked up, a chill running down my spine.
Kael.
But… it wasn’t Kael. Not anymore.
His eyes, once a warm hazel, now burned crimson red, like Damien’s. His scent, a mix of cinnamon and a cloying, sickening sweetness, made me gag. He’d been consumed by darkness, possessed.
“You’re… you’re not Kael,” I whispered, my voice trembling. The realization was terrifying.
“You’re…”
“I am… everything, Catrina,” Damien’s voice purred, a mocking amusement that made my skin crawl.
It was a reminder of his power, his control.
“And you… my dear Catrina… you are… mine.”
