                    Derek POV:
“Get out! And don’t come back!”
My father’s voice boomed through the lobby of the Magnus Hotel.
He stood before Emma and Brock, tall and imposing, his emerald eyes blazing with fury.
Even though his anger wasn’t directed at me, it still made my wolf cower, his tail tucking between his legs.
“But sir, we just want to help Rowan!” Emma pleaded. Her voice trembled, and she looked tiny standing in front of my father.
“Rowan doesn’t need your help,” Dad snarled, his gaze cold. “He doesn’t need the help of… humans. This is pack business. Now get out!”
They left quickly, their heads down. I felt a pang of sympathy for Emma. She really thought she was trying to help Rowan.
“She’s a fool, Derek.” My wolf scoffed. “Blinded by love for a wolf who doesn’t want her.”
But I couldn’t shake the feeling that she knew something, something important, something… dangerous.
Her words about a sorcerer, a prophecy… they echoed the strange dreams I’d been having, dreams I couldn’t quite remember.
“Derek, Alpha Isabelle.” My father’s voice, still laced with anger, snapped me back to the present.
“Find Rowan. Bring him back. He’s being reckless, putting the pack in danger. He needs to be reminded of his duty.”
His gaze, sharp and cold, settled on me. “And Derek… make sure this… omega infatuation ends. He’s betrothed to Isabelle. He needs to focus on the alliance, not some mutt.”
“Yes, Father.” I dipped my head, my wolf bristling at his dismissive words about Catrina.
I couldn’t explain it, but I felt drawn to her, a pull I didn’t understand.
“Find her too, Derek. Find Catrina.” My wolf urged.
Isabelle and I left the Hotel. The scent of pine, leather, and my father’s anger lingered in the air.
We followed Rowan’s scent, a trail that led us away from the city, towards the wild lands of the Bloodmoon pack.
“He’s a fool, Derek.” Isabelle’s voice was sharp and bitter. We stood at the edge of the Bloodmoon territory.
The air smelled of wild musk, and something darker, something that made my wolf uneasy.
“He’s risking everything – the pack, the alliance, our future – all for some omega he barely knows.”
Her words sparked a flicker of annoyance in me. I understood her anger.
Rowan had defied her, defied the pack. But there was something about the way she said it, the coldness in her emerald eyes…
“She’s jealous, Derek.” My wolf growled.
A part of me, a dark, possessive part that I tried to ignore, agreed. It was a dangerous thought, a forbidden desire I’d been trying to bury.
But seeing Isabelle’s anger, knowing that Rowan had hurt her… it gave me a thrill, mixed with a pang of guilt.
“He did what he thought was right, Isabelle,” I said, my voice a low rumble.
My defense of Rowan surprised even me. We weren’t always close. We were rivals, competing for our father’s approval.
But we were also brothers. And seeing him wounded, his life force fading, his heart broken… it made me want to protect him.
“He needs us, Derek. He needs his pack.” My wolf’s voice was a mournful howl.
“He’s not thinking straight, I know,” I continued.
I looked at the clearing where the battle had happened. The carnage was a stark reminder of the violence, the darkness, that Rowan had walked into.
“He’s… obsessed. Blinded by the mate bond.”
“He’s a fool,” Isabelle spat, her voice bitter. “He’s throwing everything away for a girl who doesn’t even respect him! It’s pathetic!”
“Don’t talk about her like that, Isabelle,” I growled, my voice sharper than I intended.
Her emerald eyes widened in surprise. I hadn’t meant to challenge her. But I felt this protectiveness towards Rowan’s mate.
“She’s not just some girl. She’s his mate. His Luna. And she’s in danger because of us. We have to help her.”
Isabelle stared at me, her gaze intense. Was it respect in her eyes? Or understanding?
“We’ve already lost three warriors, Derek,” she said coldly.
“Three good wolves, dead because of Rowan’s obsession. He’s made his choice. He’s chosen her over his pack, over his duty. And now he has to face the consequences.”
“It’s not that simple, Isabelle.” I shook my head, my gut churning with unease.
The scent of the clearing, the lingering traces of dark magic… it triggered a memory, a dream, a vision, that I couldn’t quite grasp. But it scared me.
“What was that, Derek? What did you just see?” My wolf whimpered.
“What are you talking about, Derek?” Isabelle asked, her voice sharp.
“What’s not simple? He’s defied his Alpha, abandoned his pack, broken our alliance… Explain yourself.”
“I… I’m not sure,” I stammered, looking around the clearing, the shadows seeming to twist and writhe.
“But… something feels wrong. There’s more to this than just a rogue pack. I think there’s something else going on. Something… darker. Something… more dangerous.”
“Like what?” Isabelle pressed, her emerald eyes narrowed.
“What could be more dangerous than a rogue pack attacking my fiancè?”
“I… I don’t know.” I shook my head, frustrated.
I couldn’t explain the feeling, the instinct, the warning, that was gnawing at me.
It was like a memory I couldn't quite grasp, a whisper from a past I didn’t remember. “But it’s something ancient. Powerful. And it’s connected to… to Catrina.”
“To Catrina?” Isabelle’s voice softened, a flicker of concern in her eyes.
Then, just as quickly, it was gone, her expression hardening, her Alpha mask back in place.
“What makes you think that, Derek? Why would this… ancient power be interested in a simple omega like Catrina?”
“I don’t know,” I admitted.
I could still smell her scent, a faint whisper of lavender and vanilla, a reminder of her sweetness, her vulnerability.
“But… There's something about her, Isabelle. Something… different. Something… special.” I paused, struggling to express the feeling of dread that was growing inside me, the unsettling familiarity of this place.
“I don’t think this is just about a rogue pack, Isabelle,” I said, my voice a low rumble. “I think… there’s something… we don’t understand.”
We stared at each other, her emerald eyes meeting mine, a shared fear and confusion reflected in them.
