Catrina POV:
“Let her go, Damien!”
Rowan’s roar echoed through the crumbling throne room, a challenge to the darkness, a promise of a fight.
He stood before Damien, his fur shining in the flickering torchlight, his amber eyes blazing with fury.
I watched from the shadows, my body stiff and controlled, a puppet dancing to Damien's tune.
My heart felt hollow, a sad echo of the love he had stolen, the memories he had twisted, the life he had taken.
“You’re in no position to make demands, Alpha,” Damien sneered, his voice dripping with mockery.
He tightened his grip on my arm, his red eyes like burning coals, boring into Rowan’s.
“Step aside, Rowan,” Damien continued, his voice a low, menacing purr, “Or just like your father, watch as your precious omega… dies.”
“Never,” Rowan growled, his silver wolf snarling, claws extended, ready to fight, to defend, to avenge. “I won't let you hurt her. Not again.”
He’s come back for us, my own wolf whimpered, a flicker of warmth in the coldness that had taken over me, a spark of hope against the overwhelming despair. He remembers… He still cares…
But the memories, fragmented and hazy, were like whispers in the wind. I couldn't quite grasp them, couldn't fully reclaim the love that had been stolen.
Damien’s magic had twisted my thoughts, warped my emotions, made me a stranger to myself.
“Foolish Alpha,” Damien chuckled, turning his gaze on me, his red eyes burning into mine.
“She’s mine now, Rowan. Her heart, her soul, everything… belongs to me. Don’t you see, Rowan? She doesn’t want you anymore. She’s chosen… darkness.”
“You’re lying, Damien!” Rowan roared, his voice full of anguish.
His amber eyes searched mine, pleading with me to remember, to see the love we once shared, a bond Damien couldn't break.
Remember, Catrina. Please… remember.
His words, filled with desperate hope and love, pierced through the haze of Damien’s control.
Memories, fragmented and fleeting, flashed before my eyes. The warmth of Rowan’s touch…
“You see, Rowan? She’s fighting me. She’s resisting my control.” Damien growled, his grip tightening on my arm, his eyes blazing with fury and a hint of fear.
He hadn’t expected my resistance, the flickering embers of a love he couldn't control.
“But it’s useless. I’m too powerful for her. For both of you.”
He raised his hand, dark energy swirling around him, forming a vortex of power that made the air crackle and the ground tremble.
“This ends now, Rowan Magnus. Your precious omega… she will be my vessel. My queen. And together… we will rule this world. And all the worlds beyond.”
“No, Damien,” I said, my voice a low growl, a mix of my own and Lyra’s, a sound of defiance and ancient power. “You won’t win. Not this time. We won’t let you.”
I could feel the shadows around us, the spirit realm itself, responding to my words, to the power surging within me.
It was a primal energy that defied Damien's control, a love he couldn't break.
“What… what are you doing, Lyra?” Damien snarled, his red eyes narrowed, a flicker of doubt and fear replacing his arrogance.
“Don’t you see, Damien?” I laughed, the sound cold and sharp. “You’re the weak one. You’re the one who’s afraid. Afraid of love. Afraid of a bond you can’t control. Afraid of… me.”
“Enough of this!” he roared, lunging at Rowan. His magic was a whirlwind of darkness.
Chaos erupted.
The battle raged – fur and fangs, claws and magic, silver, gold, and black wolves clashing in a desperate fight for survival.
My body was still a prisoner of Damien’s magic, my heart a battlefield, but I watched as Rowan, Derek, Isabelle, Carson, even my parents, Henri and Maggie, their faces pale but determined, fought the shadow warriors.
Their growls echoed through the ruined palace, a symphony of defiance against the encroaching darkness.
“Fight, Catrina! Fight him!” Vivian’s voice, a ghostly echo, urged me on. She reminded me of the warrior princess within me, the power that Damien couldn’t control.
But his magic was strong, holding me captive in a cage of lies and twisted memories.
We have to break free, Catrina. My wolf pleaded, reminding me of our bond with Rowan, our son, the future we’d almost had. We have to fight.
I focused on Rowan, on the memory of his touch, his scent, his love. The shadows wavered, the darkness flickered. Damien’s control loosened, and I glimpsed a sliver of freedom.
But then Damien roared, his anger shattering the fragile connection I’d made. Darkness returned.
“You will obey me, Lyra!” he shouted, his magic slamming into me, making my wolf whimper in pain.
“You are mine! And you will do… as I command!”
But as the darkness threatened to consume me again, a new voice, both familiar and different, cut through the chaos.
It was a voice filled with a powerful, pure, human love that shattered the chains of Damien’s magic.
“Let her go, Damien!” Emma shouted, her small human form standing tall among the battling wolves.
Her blue eyes blazed with defiance, her voice ringing through the palace.
“She’s not yours! She belongs to Rowan! And she… she belongs to herself!”
Damien whirled around, his red eyes widening in disbelief.
“You… you insignificant creature!” he snarled, his voice full of rage and a fear I hadn’t heard before.
He recognized a power he couldn't understand, a love that defied his magic.
“You dare interfere? You dare challenge me?”
“Love is stronger than your darkness, Damien!” Emma shouted back, her voice full of conviction.
She held up a small, silver object – the wolf’s head pendant I used to wear, the one he had taken. It pulsed with a light that rivaled his own.
“You can’t control it! You can’t destroy it! It’s a force of nature, a bond that transcends lifetimes, a power that will defeat you!”
As she spoke, the pendant glowed brighter, and the air crackled with energy.
The shadows that had held me captive retreated, Damien’s magic faltered, and a sliver of hope emerged.
She’s helping us, Catrina! She’s breaking the spell! My wolf howled triumphantly, filled with love and gratitude for this brave human girl who had dared to enter our world and fight for our love.
“Catrina, come back to us!” Rowan’s voice pleaded, reminding me of our bond, the love he’d fought for.
“Remember! Remember our love! Remember… Lucas!”
The memory of our son, his laughter, his amber eyes, his love, shattered the last of Damien’s control.
The darkness receded, the coldness lifted, and memories flooded back, a torrent of emotion, a wave of love, loss, and a fierce determination to fight.
My eyes, no longer vacant but blazing with my own fire and Lyra’s, met Rowan’s. As Damien’s magic lifted, the truth of our love, a bond that defied everything, filled my soul.
I was no longer a prisoner, a puppet, lost in the darkness.
And I was free.
