I stammered, "I-I'm not..." Suddenly, I felt tiny next to this powerful she-wolf.
Rowan's face went dark. He stepped in front of me. "Isabelle, wait!" he said fast.
Isabelle glared and crossed her arms. "Wait for what, Rowan? I thought we were getting married. But here you are, messing around with a maid! A low-class omega one, at that!"
Her words stung. Who did she think she was? But before I could yell back, Rowan spoke.
"Isabelle, please listen," he begged. "The maid is carrying my baby."
I stared. Here was Rowan, the big, strong alpha, begging like a scared puppy in front of this woman. She was powerful, for sure, way more than him. But what kind of deal did they have?
Isabelle's eyes went huge. Then she looked furious. She stomped towards Rowan.
"Your baby?" she spat, her voice full of hate. "You dare mess up our agreement by getting this low-class omega pregnant?"
Her words were like a knife. How could she talk about my baby like that? I wanted to yell back, but Rowan spoke first.
"Isabelle, listen!" he said, worried. "This is serious. My dad can't know. It would be a disaster."
Isabelle stared at me, barely hiding her anger. "So," she said slowly, "you got this omega maid pregnant, and now you want to keep it a secret?"
Rowan looked stressed. "Yes, that's right. We need your help, Isabelle. If my father finds out..." He trailed off, but his fear was clear.
Wait, was Rowan trying to protect me? I thought he didn't want our baby.
"What will your father do, Rowan?" Isabelle asked, her voice cold. "Will he hurt her? Hurt the baby?"
Rowan clenched his jaw. "Yeah, that's what I'm scared of. My dad's super orthodox, Isabelle. He hates anything that might mess up our pack's reputation. If he finds out..."
Isabelle cut in, her voice flat. "He'll tear the omega and her pup apart, no sweat. I get it now."
Panic flooded me. Rowan's words scared me. I never realized how bad things were. This wasn't just about Rowan rejecting me, it was life or death.
"You can't mean that," I whispered, my voice shaking. "Rowan, your dad wouldn't really... kill us?"
Rowan looked at me, his eyes filled with fear for the first time.
"Yes, Catrina," he said quietly.
"My dad's a cruel and powerful alpha. He won't let anything hurt his pack's legacy. If he finds out about you and the baby, he'll get rid of you both without a second thought."
My knees buckled. Rowan's words were a punch to the gut.
"But... I can't just disappear," I stammered, my mind a mess. "I have nowhere to go, and this baby..."
Rowan cut me off, his voice getting louder. "Don't you get it? Being here is deadly! I tried ignoring you, but seriously? My father could crush you with his hands if he knew about the baby!"
I stared at him, heart hammering.
"Then why… ?" I almost cried, the words tumbling out. "Why do you act like you hate me?"
Rowan's face went dark. He stepped closer, his eyes burning with a mix of fury and something else I couldn't place.
"You think I'm enjoying this?" Rowan growled, his voice scary low.
"Do you think I like my dad killing our baby? This isn't a joke, Catrina. It's life or death. You gotta get how serious this is."
I wanted to yell back, but then a loud ding echoed through the room. We all froze, staring at the fancy double doors that whooshed open.
The air crackled like electricity. A tall, scary figure walked in. He looked like a boss, and fear shot through me.
Rowan's face turned white. He grabbed my arm hard and shoved me back into the bathroom.
"Stay here," he whispered, almost silent. "And for the love of all that's holy, don't make a sound."
I just nodded, heart pounding like crazy. I couldn't see who it was, but the way Rowan and Isabelle acted so scared sent shivers down my spine.
I peeked out of the bathroom, barely breathing. The biggest, strongest alpha I'd ever seen stood in the room.
He was tall with wide shoulders and filled the whole space. His golden eyes were cold and uncaring.
This had to be Rowan's dad, the one who wouldn't hesitate to hurt me and the baby. My heart hammered in my chest.
Rowan and Isabelle bowed low, scared of this alpha. He looked at them, then scanned the room. A shiver ran down my spine.
He looked around the room, then his eyes darted to the bathroom. My breath hitched and I froze.
Our eyes met for a second.
Then, without a word, he turned and walked out like a king.
Rowan disappeared to another room for a few minutes, then appeared well-dressed and left the penthouse with Isabelle.
The second they were gone, I let out a shaky breath. I'd never been so scared.
That alpha, his power was insane.
My parents, who were both Rogues, raised me outside all the pack stuff with rankings and leaders. I learned about how powerful an alpha could be, but this was the first time I felt it myself.
Slowly, I crept out of the bathroom, cradling my belly. Escape. That's all I could think about.
But after cleaning the room, Rowan's scent lingered - strong and manly, making something flutter in my stomach.
A part of me still ached for him. He was my mate, my alpha, the baby's father. But his actions were a mess.
Was he trying to save me from his dad? Did his fiancée agree to hide us? My head spun. I had no idea what to believe.
I sighed big and ran out of the room. My brain raced with a million scary thoughts. I had to leave and find another job as quickly as possible.
Down the hall, I wondered what would happen next. Could we ever escape the Magnus family? Or were we stuck forever, scared, our lives in danger?
